1 Welcome to the Rum City Riders April 2017 Newsletter Meeting Minutes 4 th April, pm at Sugarland Tavern, Bundaberg: Record of AGM meeting of the Ulysses Club Inc. Bundaberg Branch at the Sugarland Tavern on Tuesday evening the 4 April 2017 at 6.30pm. In the absence of Neil, Jill C chaired the meeting with around 20 members plus present and cheerful. The meeting commenced at 6.34 pm. Apologies: We received apologies from Neil C, David and Julie H, Fred A, Bruce W. Welfare: A welfare review revealed a range of matters not really worthy of discussion but worth reporting. Ross T was particularly concerned at Lolit not tackling the pub s huge schnitzels. Peter D was recovering well from his knee replacement and was back driving. Watch out! We all wish Ross T well with his back operation. David M was looking good for a member who has not had a new bike for a while. New members / visitors / rides: Whilst we had no reports of new rides we did have a report of new membership enquiries. Great to hear. Finances: Jill reported that financially we were fine with a balance of $ New branch patches were now available from Jill at a cost of $10 each. In the Post Box: Jill was feeling a little let down with only one document in the letterbox. We will have to do something about this. 2 Tonight s Raffle: Half the Pot $22, won by Bev T, which she donated back to the branch; well done! At this point Ross T wished to share with the meeting that he had feelings! We will understand your sensitivity Ross. Newsletter Subscriptions: Members who wished to receive a hard copy of the newsletter were reminded that these were available with an annual subscription cost of $25. Ride Reports for March: Ride reports were few and far between due to members being slack or rain interfering with ride days. Don t forget your ride reports. Even reports of individual rides would be welcome. A short summary of ride events included: First Aid for motorcyclists was attended by Neil and Wayne C; Lyn took the group to Mt Perry; Harry is ok after having a medical mishap and being hospitalised on the ride to Silky Oaks; The Black Dog ride was good but marred by rain- to quote bloody wet ; Mungungo was a non-event due to rain or something! Upcoming rides shared by all included: Turkey Beach Sunday 9 April Tin Can Bay Sunday 23 April Other events included Theodore Show event contact Bruce Watson. This is on May; National AGM Event at Wauchope May. Chris, Sheryl and Kerry, Maria attending and both being delicates. There has been a request for an escort for the Psychs on Bikes Ride but details are unknown. Watch for details on your . The Anzac Day ride to Woodgate Anzac ceremony is to leave River Cruz at 8.30 am. The meeting agreed to the purchase of a wreath to be laid at the ceremony. Jondaryan Woolshed tentative Date only at this stage for August. Jill is on the mailing list so will let everyone know when the date is. (This has now been confirmed as August) General Business: UCARF raffles tickets will not be requested this year unless members ask for them. Jill and Neil will accommodate requests but be quick. Tickets are $5 each with the prize being an Indian Scout motorcycle that is! Members profiles will proceed. Ron has agreed to harass, pester, photograph and record your life history in around 100 words. Come on now, help out and volunteer some info. This could be fun and we all get to know something new about each other. Don t forget RIDE REPORTS and even silly stories for the newsletter. The meeting closed pretty soon after it started at around 7.06 pm but the conversations continued. See you all on the rides and see you at the next meeting on Tuesday 2 May at the Sugarland Tavern. 2

3 Ride to Crow s Nest - Biker Friendly Town Launch 5 th March 2017 Sunday 5am I roll up the garage door and look at the sky not bad but not good either. Dark clouds are still gathered on the horizon left over from the rain a few hours earlier. As I filled the bike with fuel, I am thinking we are going to get very wet at some stage this morning. Five riders left Bundy picking up Rocky and Ruth at the ring road then Freddy at Ban Ban Springs where some got fuel. Breakfast was at Goomeri where we found Frank (a friend of Dave B) waiting for us. If any of us ever wondered why we like to ride we were answered that morning. After getting out of a fog belt close to Bundy the rest of the ride was awesome. The sun just barely up the temp around 19 degrees it truly was a great time to be on a motorcycle. We road steadily on toward Crow s Nest with the only problem being some deposits left by the nocturnal wanderings of the cattle. Apparently one three wheeled arachnid couldn't avoid a steaming pile and with deadly accuracy and that large rear wheel deposited most of the afore mentioned excrement directly up the centre of the big white trike following casually behind. Crow s Nest turned on a good morning with a small market and a display of old bikes which I believe came over from Toowoomba. There were speeches and thank you s to the people who obviously put a lot of time into the Motorcycle Friendly Town concept. We stayed at the pub which was clean and comfortable and well-priced with the bonus of a good meal a few drinks and undercover parking for the bikes. The staff here are great and will make you feel at home should you decide to make Crow s Nest a ride destination. Next morning we were up and on our way early led by Frank who knows this area well. Breakfast was at Esk after a beautiful ride through the hills. On to Kilcoy, from here Frank led us over some of the tightest, steepest, twistiest roads I've ridden in a long time. After winding our way slowly north we finally arrived at Kenilworth where we said goodbye to our guide who lives at Coran. I think I speak for everyone when I say a big thank you to Frank for showing us some beautiful country. From here we followed the valley through Kandanga to Gympie and out to the Tin Can Bay road to Silky Oaks Tea House. With lunch over it was on to The Drunk Bean café in Childers for a cold drink. The Goldwing s temp gauge was reading 39 on the road between Maryborough and Childers but dropped to 37 before we got home. Two days and just short of 1000km over some of the best riding roads in Queensland with a great bunch of friends what more could you ask for. Now where will we go next????????. Greg D. 4 Biggenden 9 th March, 2017 Finally a coolish morning to start our ride. Once again a good turn out of ten bikes for a short ride to Biggenden via Paradise Dam. Max was in town and decided to come along even though his bike was being a little cantankerous. Smoko at the dam and then a short ride over to Biggenden, simple enough. For most of us it was, but as they say, there's always one in every group. Our group had that one, not satisfied to simply ride from point A to point B this enterprising individual decided to take on a rather large eagle. The eagle flew off after a few seconds of confused tumbling but the old beemer was in need of minor surgery. With another small op after lunch to restore sight. Back on the road and riders peeled off to their various homes with a small but dedicated band stopping for coffee at Moly's in Apple Tree Creek. This was a short ride but still a good day enjoyed with good company. The meeting agreed to invite members to generate profiles of ourselves and to publish these in the newsletter over a period of time. So what might you like to tell us? It is entirely up to you but you might like to share info about how long you have been riding, how many and what bikes have you owned, what was your favourite machine, do you have a dream machine, what draws you to riding and what draws you to riding and the Ulysses Club. You may like to share personal info like where have lived, where was your favourite ride. Most of all, it does not have to be long or complex. Keep it simple and easy reading. And write what you like. And a photo would be great! If you want some help, I am happy help you write your profile. We can do this over the phone or over lunch on a ride. Ron 5
