Our website: MERRY CHRISTMAS and Happy New Year to all!!! Ride Reports: Xmas Party Hivesville 25 Nov - It was a nice day, sun shining, bloody birds singing and a group of 14 bikes and two cars. We left on time (well sort of), down the Isis, past the Isis mill, across to the Biggenden Rd via a short cut and down to Ban Ban Springs where Ian and Helen left us to reach Hivesville before the main group. The group (including Ron and a car full of ladies who somehow reached Ban Ban before the bikes) went down Wilsons Rd and onto Silverleaf Rd where they encountered a closed bridge. After beating the bridge, they moved on to the pub without incident, where 1 Volume 2 Number 11 Wednesday 13 th December 2006 PO Box 4184 BUNDABERG QLD ronhenry@gil.com.au Newsletter items: newsletter@rumcityriders.org Contact: Ron Henry Mob they met up with the rest of the members. After a short admin session, most of the 31 members present proceeded to party, however a couple of blokes seem to be playing with fencing wire and pliers, and another bloke was pushing his bike all over the place (strange what some people do for entertainment). The meal was good, so was the Aussie win over the Kiwi s and the music/dancing made for a very enjoyable night. Gail and Dave made things interesting with their balloon dance while Linda and H decided to visit The Rocky Horror Show for a while. 26 Nov After a big breakfast at 7:30, we were pleased to see Mac turn up from Toowoomba and spend some time catching up with us. At 9:00, vehicles went in all directions, some went straight home and to work, one limped home with an escort, a large mob went to Proston, and that bloke was still pushing his bike around but this time there were others pushing as well. Read the further adventures of the Proston group in this newsletter. It was great to catch up with a few people we haven t seen out and about lately; Terry and Sue (did you see Terry wash the car before 8:00), Marg and Tiger (who still have saddle sores), John and Minda (John finally stopped working for a weekend), Steve and Karen (Steve got away with not dancing all night) and of course Mac (who is enjoying the cold up on the range). I must say, it was a very enjoyable weekend except for John Bloody Scott and his camera and I must thank Bill and Lolit for their help and escort home, Rick and Steve for their advice, Nick for the entertainment/exercise and lastly I wish for a lighting blot to strike John s camera. Stay upright, Ian and H

More on the Christmas Party: The Way Home Around 9 after a fuel top-up we left Hivesville, a few bikes travelling home the quick way, with the last of us on bikes and in cars electing to head to Theebine for lunch via Murgon, a short stop in Goomeri, then Kilkivan, Woolooga and onto Theebine pub. A great BBQ lunch as usual, then, with our 4 wheel escort leaving us 3 bikes took the back road to Tiaro, then off the highway again at the Hideaway hotel to travel a fairly straight ( but fairly fast ) road to Maryborough. Another fuel stop, then home via Goodwood Rd arriving around 430, having ridden 560 ks over the weekend Owen Catching Up with Fraser Coast Branch, Boreen Point Saturday 18 th November On looking at the weather forecast for the weekend of the 19 November I thought a quick and some phone calls might get someone interested in a ride to Boreen Point with the Fraser Coast Branch on the that Sunday. It was not long before I had a couple of phone calls and s and seven of us were rearing to go. We met at Alloway School for a 7.30 am departure. There were Rod and Kathy, John and Linda H, and Ron with the idea of meeting Mal and Ted at the Buxton turnoff. That duly done, we were on our way to meet the Fraser Coast Branch in Maryborough. And what a day we had! Around 30 bikes headed out long the Cooloola Coast Road to Silky Oaks for morning tea. Mal and I were first in, of course, and waited quite a while but all was well. We then headed off for what was to be a great ride on fabulous roads to Boreen Point. In through Cedars Pocket Road and on to Kin Kin and then some really good twisties to Boreen Point. The roads were a delight and gave us plenty of time to enjoy some good riding before we hit the Appolonian Hotel at Boreen Point. We enjoyed a delicious spit roast or a counter lunch. Well most of us did! There were lots of Harley V Rods there from another ride with plenty of customising to get your attention. The lunch beak was a time to share good company and a good chat. We then headed back to the highway via Cooran and Traveston. This was an excellent day arriving home after around 530 kilometres, good company and good food. 2 Ron The seven of us all agree that we have to do that ride as a club. Watch for the Kin Kin weekend or an even earlier ride to Boreen Point! Club Ride Toogum, Sunday 12 th November I haven t received a ride report, but from what was reported at the meeting, it was a great day. Di led the group, thanks Di. A stop at a place apparently called Wagtail Yarns proved interesting and somewhat eventful for some (Ron, what is that rather nasty stain on your front?). Thanks were conveyed to the hosts for showing the group such hospitality. That is all I wrote down, so that is all I can say!!! Cathy Club Ride Dam-it, Sunday 3 rd Dec It was a cool, cloudy day that could have easily turned to clag ; a small roll up of 8 bikes and by 9:05 we were off. We used Goodwood Rd then across to the Isis and warmed the tires up on the smooth corners just out of Childers (on the Biggenden Rd) in preparation for the Paradise Dam section. The Dam road is a well-constructed road with very few holes and very predictable corners but it has been spoilt a little by the restriction of several 60kph sections (due to accidents and noise complaints from the locals). At the dam, we met a group of younger riders and listened to a few coming up the road and I have to say that at times it sounds like the MotoGP is in town. Coming down from the Dam, Neil (who had been called an oldie by one of the younger riders) felt his bike get a meter wider when he looked in the mirror and saw the young fella lining up to pass him. It s truly amazing how wide some bikes grow: I think it has to do with air movement, friction and technical stuff like that. We turned left and headed for lunch at Gin Gin. After a good lunch, Bill, Lolit, and Peter returned to Bundy and the rest of us refuelled and headed for Lake Monduran. The dam wall has recently been raised a

few meters on the downstream side but the water level is quite low. The fishing is still good (a few weeks ago H caught a 4kg catfish), the view from the lookout is great and the camping grounds are excellent. Lyn left us at Monduran, Rod took over lead, a very bored Ian moved to the rear to play which saw 5 bikes going to Miriam Vale, with a quick stop to ease Kathy s numb bum we went to the Avondale via Rosedale Rd. From there we went our separate ways. A good time was had by all, safe, enjoyable and at 400km long enough. Thanks to all riders for a good day, to Rod and Kathy for leading from Monduran (I really was bored) and to Bill, Lolit and then Neil for covering the tail. Stay upright - Ian Bundy Toy Run 2 nd Dec broken a few times through town at the roundabouts but everything proceeded without incident. As told to the group by Scotty. Numbers were down on last year but everyone had a good time. The usual thing, meet at the Basin, ride to Kendall s Flats, then on through town to Sugarland. The line was The Bleeders Bleed, Monday 4 th December Five big burly brave onesgave generously of the red stuff. Then they benefited directly from our recent donation towards a cream maker! Good on you! Hendo s Trip to Brunswick heads Hendo reported at the meeting that he and Lyn took off to Brunswick for a couple of days of camping. Hendo went sky diving, took some time to recover, then they rode home again. A good weekend s work! Our Trip to Tassie As many of you know, Neil and I missed the November meeting because we were on the Apple Isle enjoying a few days doing the tourist thing. We found a few things that we thought you might be interested in hearing about. Harley Museum We took a wrong turn heading out of Launceston and while were squabbling about heading we saw a sign indicating a Harley Museum, so we went that way! The Museum is located at Prospect, at Richardson s Harley dealership. The museum is upstairs and the dealership below. They were very friendly, encourage browsing and had some fantastic pieces in the museum. Historic Racing at Longford Again, quite by accident (and probably arguing again) we found ourselves in Longford, sitting in a pub that had displays relating car and bike racing in the 50s and 60s. Suddenly we realized that we had read about this place in Two Wheels or ARR or somewhere. Longford. Home of Targa Tasmania. The famous viaduct. Unfortunately you can t get to most of the old track, some bits simply don t exist anymore and most of it is now private property but you can get a real sense of the history from the display in the pub which sits on what used to be the main town corner of the track. Joe s Garage We stayed with friends in Hobart and it must be something about Ducati riders, but not only was he derisive about Ulysseans, he had never heard of Joe s Garage!! Can t remember exactly where it is (shocking sense of direction, see above for evidence) and we didn t have a camera with us either. But it is a bar, it is filled with bike and car paraphernalia such as bits of Toy Bayliss bikes, life-size cardboard cut out of Bazza and many many photos and other bits. TV screens show loops of footage racing and crashing, with one showing bikes - off after off. It was definitely not peak hour when we went the place was empty, but apparently things get a bit exciting after 10pm. Gonna go back there one of these days! We went round in a car, so just not saying anything about the roads!!! Cheers, Cathy and Neil Ew! What is that on the front of your shirt Never mind that, what is that on your head??? which way takes us back to where we were supposed to be 3

The Meeting of the 5 th December What a turnout! We eclipsed previous attendances, with more than 50 keen and crusty folk attending. OK, maybe not so crusty, but all keen! As always, a warm welcome to newbies this month Cletus and Susan, Warren and Heather, John (another one, how will we cope!) and Sue, Trevor and Nadine and Max. Welcome! Apologies were acknowledged from a few folk. NATCOM minutes are available if anyone would like to read them. Ride reports on club and individual or group rides were provided. Down but not out: A new feature of our meetings and newsletter is to acknowledge those of us who are unwell or otherwise, ahem, indisposed. Again, well wishes to Peter Litzow the plaster is off (phew!) and Warren is recovering well from knee surgery. Scotty is off to investigate a nick this week, he reckons shoulder All the best, mate. Money, money, money Ron reported on the current financial situation. Current balance is $1058. If anyone has any questions about our money matters, please don t hesitate to contact him. As always, there was a quick raffle this month we decided that the prize would be half the pot. $50 was won by the newby Susan!! Well done!. Ron reported that Steve Campbell has donated a model galleon to be raffled. The group agreed that we should run the raffle over a couple of months next year as it is a valuable prize. Thanks for the very generous donation, Steve! Polo Shirts An order was recently completed and received. Remember, it is most cost effective to place an order of 10 or more shirts. If you are in a hurry for your shirt and are happy to bear the additional cost placed on a small order ($8.50), please let Cathy know and your order can be placed at any time. Website If you have some photos to be published, please send them to webmaster@rumcityriders.org. Items for the newsletter newsletter@rumcityriders.org Badges, Patches and Club Flag: Badges and patches have been very well received with a number of members sporting one or both. The flags have now been screen printed and are looking good. If anyone wants a flag done, please let Ron Know. Newsletter This is our last for the year, the next newsletter will be February Contacts List Don t forget that if you want details of your ride to be published in the contacts list, please fill out the 4 form provided with the October newsletter and send to Ron Ride Calendar See the back page for up-coming rides. There was discussion about another January ride, Hendo is to follow up with the Bakers at Mt Perry re this. See the back page for detail, but there will be a ride to Mt Perry and a BBQ. We have received an invitation from the Organising Committee for Australia Day Celebrations at Burnett Heads to come along for a show and shine. Those present at the meeting suggested that they would be willing to participate for a few hours, not the whole day. Cathy and Neil to liaise with the organising committee. Cathy has done this and we are now seeking support from the Harley owners and Enthusiasts as well. The committee would like the bikes to ride in as a group and this would be at about 11am. Ron is looking into the possibility of a motorcycle awareness display as well. See ride calendar for detail. Red Hat Society this is a group of 50+ year old ladies who are seeking bikes to be involved in an event in July They specifically want riders who are willing to take their members for a short ride. We may seek support form the other groups for this one too! Ride Protocols There was some discussion about the development of ride protocols with the aim to make everyone feel safe and to build up an expectation of what other riders in the group might do. The concepts included riding in staggered formation, keeping an eye on the rider behind and slowing if you lose sight of him/her etc. however NATCOM have made it clear that Branches are not to develop Ride Rules. After some brief discussion the suggested protocols were binned. However members were reminded that everyone is expected to obey the road rules during a ride. Displaying courtesy and regard for fellow riders and other road users is a value that we appreciate also AGM Registrations have been open for some weeks now. Don t forget that if you are planning to camp, get your registrat5ion details to Ian ASAP so that he can liaise with the organising committee regarding co-locating our campsites. Ron offers the following advice: expect a long queue for registration on the Monday morning, the Saturday night dinner is the big one with many branches themeing up or generally being disgraceful together, Saturday morning is the grand parade of bikes, we need to establish some means of communication with each other once we are there and finally the trip down is about 850km. There was some discussion about planning for the ride down with the suggestion that those going might like to meet some time to discuss their travel plans. A quick show of hands indicates that at least 30 members will be attending including:

Ron and Leslie, Ian and Helen, Neil and Cathy, John and Linda S, John and Linda H, Steve and Karen, Eric and Gaye, Trevor and Nadine, John and Minda, Bill and Lolit, Eric and Lyn, Lloyd and Barb, Dave and Gail, Tiger and Marg, Rick Lang, the four Bakers. If you are planning to attend but are not listed here, please give Ian a call to let him know, or just Cathy at newsletter@rumcityriders.org In the New Year we will try and meet to plan the trip if people want to travel together. Other Business: Proposal for Sister Branch St George-Sutherland, NSW Neil Fritz reported on some discussions, originating it seems from Bruce Blunden (member no. 23) who has ties with both Branches. The proposal is to formalise ties with the St George Sutherland Branch, allowing for regular contact, sharing of newsletter, contacts when travelling through each other s areas, and every now and then a ride to the middle to meet and socialise. Neil reported that his contact, Garry Palmer was taking the idea to his Branch meeting to see what they thought. It was agreed to run with this for now and see what comes of it. After the meeting Neil received advice that the St George Sutherland Branch meeting were very happy with this idea and have suggested a ride to a half way point around Easter next year. More discussion next meeting. Letter to the Editor Anyone who has a BM, you can t do better service (new and second hand) than at Munich Motorcycles in WA. Wot You Larfin At? BEST GRANDPA JOKE OF THE YEAR A small boy was lost at a large shopping mall. He approached a uniformed policeman and said, "I've lost my grandpa" The cop asked, "What's he like?" The little boy replied, "Jack Daniels and women with big tits." xoxoxox John invited his mother over for dinner. During the meal, his mother couldn't help noticing how beautiful John's flatmate was. She had been suspicious for some time of a relationship between John and his flatmate and this had only made her more curious. Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between them than met the eye. Reading his mother's mind, John volunteered, "I know what you must be thinking, mum, but I assure you, we are just good friends." About a week later, Julie, the pretty flatmate, came to John and said, "Ever since your mother came to dinner I been unable to find the beautiful silver gravy ladle from the kitchen. You don't suppose she took it, do you?" John pondered this for a while, and after a week or so, he couldn't stand it any longer so he wrote to his mother. "Dear Mother, I'm not saying that you did take the silver gravy ladle from the kitchen when you were here at tea the other night and I'm not saying you didn't take it. But the fact remains that, it has been missing ever since the night you came here for tea." Several days later, John received a reply to his letter. "Dear John, I'm not saying that you do sleep with Julie and I'm not saying that you don't. But the fact is that, if she were sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the gravy ladle. Love, Mum." Words of Wisdom Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day drinking beer. Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak. xoxoxox Here is an exercise suggested for adults over 45 and seniors, to build muscle strength in the arms and shoulders. It seems so easy, so I thought I'd pass it on. Just don't over-do it. Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side. With a 5kg potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides, and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, then relax. Each day, you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer. After a couple of weeks, move up to 10kg potato sacks. Then 50kg potato sacks, and eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100kg potato sack in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute. After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each of the sacks For Sale: (Ed note: Once items are sold, please let me know, otherwise the ads will continue to run.
