Our website: Ride Reports: Weekend 10 th and 11 th February 1770 Di splace Only a verbal report at the meeting, but it sure sounded like a good time. Some snippets from the meeting: Apparently, someone s bike was a bit tired and emotional and, well, fell over! No one snored outrageously, although there were a few good purrs. Some nameless person was a bit migratory through the night (you know who you are and what you got up to!!) One youngster had his 61 st birthday and did us proud with the disgraceful behaviour!! Volume 3 Number 2 Wednesday 14 th March 2007 PO Box 4184 BUNDABERG QLD ronhenry@gil.com.au Newsletter items: newsletter@rumcityriders.org Contact: Ron Henry Mob Thanks very much to Di who tolerated (and indeed encouraged) the takeover of her house for the weekend. Sunday 25 th February Around 9 bikes decided to brave the not so nice weather and head off on a bit of a pub crawl, wet weather gear on we departed River Cruz at 915. Along Moore Park and Tablelands roads, to Bucca via Invicta, riding in & out of the rain with every turn. A quick break on the verandah at Bucca pub, then on to Bullyard, Goondoon Rd to Wallaville, the leading bike only missing one turn off. Coffee at Wallaville, then we decided to lunch at Gin Gin, but travel via Tirroan Hotel, only needing 2 ride leaders to get us there. A welcome break there for a while, then some riding direct to Gin Gin while a few had a quick (wet), run to Fred Haigh Dam at Monduran first Lunch ($5 roast) settled down, the next part of our journey took us across Cedars, some of our group heading home from South Kolan, a right turn towards Childers, then Logging Ck & Knockroe Rds across to Goodwood Rd and home. 260 KMs, home by 3 PM, & apart from the on/off weather, a great back roads ride with some good people Thanks to all who came along. Owen

The Meeting of the 6 th March It is becoming a great thing to see again over 50 people attended the meeting with a good many arriving early to chat and eat. Great to see every one, especially those who for whatever reason can only attend every now and then. For many of these members, the newsletter is a valued way of keeping in touch and it was good to know that members still feel included even when they can t get to meetings or rides. As always, a warm welcome to newbies this month Wayne (visiting from Glenwood), John and Greg and Jen. Welcome! Apologies were acknowledged from a few folk. NATCOM minutes are available if anyone would like to read them. Ron has also received the branch newsletter from Gympie, along with some travel brochures from a motel in Maryborough. If anyone is planning to lead a ride to Maryborough, have a look, they might come in handy! Ride reports on club and individual or group rides were provided. Down but not out: Some heartfelt acknowledgement for those of us who are unwell or otherwise, ahem, indisposed. Scotty is recovering not so nicely (well, what else can you say, I hear he is whingeing) after his wing surgery. Smithy continues to have trouble with his knees and remains off two wheels. Poor Bill banged his thumb apparently there is a new book coming out soon Bill and the Drop Saw. Ron is not so much hobbling, but not quite 100% yet. We are thinking of you all and hope to see you in better shape soon!!! Money, money, money Always good to note when the books balance and currently we have $ excluding money taken for newsletter donations. There is one bill to pay for the annual fee for the Post Box. All agreed to pay. As always, there was the quick raffle and another freebie for this month. A thermal mug and sunglasses were won by Ian V The raffle for the handcrafted model of the Chinese junk was drawn. Thank to all those who bought and sold tickets we will let you know next meeting exactly how much was raised. The model was made by Steve Campbell, so thanks for that fantastic effort Steve. The piece was won by Diana Pertot. Congratulations! Polo Shirts Unfortunately pesky school children took priority and our latest order of shirts was not quite ready for the meeting. Orders keep coming in for the time being. Thanks for your support! Website If you have some photos to be published, please send them to webmaster@rumcityriders.org. Items for the newsletter newsletter@rumcityriders.org Thanks Bill for your ongoing work in updating and maintaining the website each month. Apparently we are getting a lot of hits form overseas (China in particular??) Newsletter Thanks to all who help with getting the newsletter out each month. Thanks also to Bill for updates the website with each newsletter and photos etc. A reminder that the contact list provided last month is NOT placed in the public domain ie bike stores or the website. Please respect the information; it is for our Branch use only. Another reminder that we do rely on a donation from members wishing to continue to receive the newsletter to cover photocopying and mail out costs. Those members who have not made a donation will unfortunately not receive any further editions after this one. The newsletter can always be accessed either via the Web or the local bike shops. Contacts List Don t forget that if you want details of your ride to be published in the contacts list, please fill out the form provided with the October newsletter and send to Ron or simply send us and . New Rides Another new feature who has which new bike? Tiger a handcrafted Egley Vincent. Currently having some mechanical trouble, but Tiger can talk about that when he gets back from Adelaide, perhaps. A European masterpiece Ian a 10 year old but very tidy BMW R1100 RT. He rode it back from Sydney and it rained 7kg drops, this wide, hit him in the forehead!! It goes like a snorter (Is that anything like a Zyrtec?) James this was almost too much for a few people. A brand spankin 1800 Goldwing. Picked it up in November, already fiddling with a few of its bits. Has a set of training wheels added. It doesn t do dirt roads. Best package I have ever ridden Ride Calendar/Events See the back page for details on up-coming rides. 13 th March our second mid-week ride, mystery ride. Come along for what, we dunno until we get there!! Easter Sunday ride (our usual club ride) has been rescheduled to Sunday 15 th March. To Kingaroy, led by Ian. It will be around 520km all up. Friday 13 th April Theebine. Wayne attended the meeting to talk about this event. $20 will cover entry only, camping and meals are extra. If anyone wants to also stay Saturday night, camping is free. For tickets either contact Ron who has been left a book of tickets. Are you ready for a night with the Wolverines??

HOGs vs Ulysses Blood Challenge Di reported that the HOGs have suggested a blood challenge between our groups to see who can donate the greatest amount of blood. Those present thought this would be a good challenge (although with only 5 or 6 turning up each time we have a bleeders night, we ll have to recruit some more!!!) Di will let the HOGs know we are keen and see what they suggest for timeframes etc. Red Hat Society this is a group of 50+ year old ladies who are seeking bikes to be involved in an event in July They specifically want riders who are willing to take their members for a short ride. More next month AGM Ian has a pile of brochures and maps etc for anyone to look at please don t take them, they are for loan only. There was some discussion about getting down there and Ian brought along two suggested routes. It appears that most of us are leaving at different times, but if you want to ride with someone else, let Ian know when you are going and by which route and he can then tell you if anyone else is going that way/leaving at that time. Ian will have a communication book on site at Coffs to allow those there to keep in touch by leaving messages for each other, notices about planned rides etc. The common camping area has not yet been confirmed by the organising committee but hopefully by next meeting it will be. There was some discussion about sending a crate down with gear in if anyone is having trouble getting all their stuff onto the back of the bike (try suggesting leaving the pillion at home and see what happens!!). No one at the meeting was particularly interested but if anyone reading thinks it would be useful, why not give Ian a call to talk further? For the April Branch meeting, those attending the AGM might like to come a bit earlier and get together for a bit of a talk. Meet at 6.30pm at river Cruz. Don t forget that we have agreed to meet members of St George-Sutherland Branch there to talk more about the Sister Club idea. Patches and Badges Order these from Ron. Reminder that the patch must be worn on the front of jackets/vests etc. Ulysses policy is that only the Old Man should be on the back. This is a safety issue not only yours but others you ride with. Other Business: Newsletter Advertising Recently Ron was approached by one of the bike stores requesting advertising space in the newsletter. This was discussed among the reference group nominated last year and the following is proposed: We are prepared to offer to each of the local bike stores/dealers two half page ads per year. In return we will ask that the store/dealer provide us with a donation to their perceived value for the advertising, for us to do with what we choose. There was some discussion about whether we should set the value of the donation, but majority agreed to leave store/dealer to decide. The proposal was agreed to and Ron will contact the local stores/dealers in writing and in person. See Mega Motorcycles ad this issue! Shave for a Cure Ian kindly donated his hair and beard and an enormous amount of money was made for Leukaemia Foundation (exact figure to be revealed next month). Good on ya Ian, hope the helmet isn t feeling too loose now! Camp Quality fundraiser Janice H reported that each year there is a fundraiser for Camp Quality at Woodgate Bowls Club. $6 for an afternoon of bowls with light lunch included. No hard soled shoes. Please contact Janice H if planning to attend. Rob Bauer spoke at the meeting about his fundraising efforts for a number of charities including the McGrath Foundation. Ron is currently coordinating the collection of brassieres (that is a bra!) in an attempt to break the world record for the longest chain of bras. The record is currently 111km. There are a number of collection points in Bundy including Gloria Jean s coffee shop. Bras can be sent directly to Rob, but please NOT COD!!! For more information: Rob Bauer: Wild Hogs new movie coming to Bundaberg early March. It looks like it might be right up our alley a group of older motorcyclists take off for a trip on their Harleys. Group attendance planned for the evening of Tuesday 13 th March at 6.45pm. The movie runs for 109mins. Meet at Reading Cinema. For more information: Cathy and Neil Fritz Donation The meeting agreed to the Branch making a donation of $50 dedicated to the memory of Peter Deane to the Hervey Bay RSPCA. Letter to Editor To my Fellow Ulyssians and Guests I would like to share some observations and feelings about our meeting of Tuesday 6 March. We had quite a large agenda to get through and that required some genuine group cooperation and high levels of participation from all. Everyone excelled in their personal contributions to a point way above any 'ordinary' level. I wish to record my thanks to all for your contribution to the meeting by your generous support for all who spoke, by your considered contribution to debate, and the friendly and happy spirit in which you participated. The contribution of all to the heavy financial demands of the night was extraordinary. The impromptu raising of some $167 for the Leukemia Foundation with a very generous similar donation by Rob was tangible recognition of your community spirit.

I wish to acknowledge we will not make those demands too often. When I left the meeting I felt proud to be part of such a group who expressed their generosity and cooperation in so many ways. Congratulations to you all! and on behalf of all who benefited in any way from the meeting and your contributions, many, many thanks. Originally at Kawana we saw the need to allow expansion so we migrated the gathering to Theebine north of Gympie. The last event was October and we found it an ideal venue to get together. The event is for anyone riding a motorcycle and their partners, we don't bring brands, clubs or anything else into the event that might stop us from having a great time has two events in April and July and we'd like you to come along to the first one in April... In April 2007, the Long Ride will begin. It will start with an early breakfast at home in the suburbs, a quick check of the bike and gear, a kiss and a wave to those left at home. Along the way out of town, the rider will join others (about 200 riders across Australia) eager for the open road and the adventure to unfold. Across Australia, on different days depending on the route, riders will gather gradually to a great number on the Long Ride to Darwin. Riders from both the Southern and Eastern States will come together at The Three Ways and then join up with riders from Western Australia at Katherine the following day. When all are assembled the Long Riders will mass for the final leg to Darwin and a deserved Darwin welcome and some revelry. Do you need a reason to ride? If not then get on your bike and join up for an adventure in exploring the great open roads to Darwin. If you need a reason, then throw the leg over and contribute your time and friendship to this adventure as the Long Ride has been set up to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. All riders participating are requested to donate $50.00 to the Royal Flying Doctor Service. This donation will give you unlimited time on the road and a sore bum, you will make a lot of new friends, visit towns that you would possibly never visit, meet locals who will talk your head off, swap stories, make new friendships, participate in a charity fund raising event of National significance and drink a few beers at the end of each day in great company. The journey begins... There are 4 main routes which will enable a rider from any where in Australia to pick up with a group along the way. Details of the assigned routes are available at the website: =pagesetter&func=viewpub&tid=6&pid=152 Contact Details: Christopher Dunne, Event Organiser The Long Ride T: E: christopher.dunne@bigpond.com.au 2007 MOREE MUSTER

Wot You Larfin At? I was thinking I was thinking about how a status symbol of today is those cell phones that everyone has clipped onto their belt or purse. I can't afford one. So, I'm wearing my garage door opener. You know, I spent a fortune on deodorant before I realized that people didn't like me anyway. I was thinking that women should put pictures of missing husbands on beer cans! I was thinking about old age and decided that old age is 'when you still have something on the ball, but you are just too tired to bounce it.' I thought about making a fitness movie, for folks my age, and call it "Pumping Rust." I have gotten that dreaded furniture disease. That's when your chest is falling into your drawers! Employment application blanks always ask 'who is to be notified in case of an emergency.' I think you should write, "A Good Doctor!" Why do they put pictures of criminals up in the Post Office? What are we supposed to do -- write to these men? Why don't they just put their pictures on the postage stamps so the mailmen could look for them while they deliver the mail? Or better yet, arrest them while they are taking their pictures! I was thinking about how people seem to read the Bible a whole lot more as they get older. Then, it

dawned on me, they were cramming for their finals. As for me, I'm just hoping God grades on the curve. One hot day we found an old straggly cat at our door. She was a sorry sight. Starving, dirty, smelled terrible, skinny and hair all matted down. We didn't know what to call her, so we named her "Pussycat." We felt sorry for her, put her in a carrier and took her to the vet. The vet decided to keep her for a day or so. He said would let us know when we could come and get her. My husband (the complainer) said, "OK, but don't forget to wash her, she stinks." He reminded the vet that it was his WIFE who wanted the dirty cat NOT him. My husband and my Vet don't see eye to eye. He calls my husband "El-Cheap-O," and my husband calls him "El-Take-O." They love to hate each other and constantly "snipe" at each other, with my husband getting in the last word on this occasion. The next day my husband had an appointment with his doctor, who is located next door to the vet. The doctor's office was full of people waiting to see him. A side door opened and in leaned the vet; he had obviously seen husband arrive. He looked straight at my husband and in a loud voice said "Your wife's pussy is finally clean and shaved and she now smells like a rose. Oh, and, by the way, I think she's pregnant. God knows who the father is!" And he closed the door. Now THAT, my friends, is getting even. For Sale: (Ed note: Once items are sold, please let me know, otherwise the ads will continue to run.
