1 CQ CLW 2018 Monday 24 th September 10:30am - Friday 28th September 1:30pm Tanyalla Camping & Conference Centre 1 Canoe Point Road, Tannum Sands QLD 4680 Hi! We are SO excited that you ll be with us at camp this year! This letter will outline all the information you need to prepare for a fantastic week away. Directing CQ CLW this year is the lovely Tiffany Hartwig alongside the brilliant Josh Pukallus. For those who don t know us just yet, we look like this We, along with the fantastic team of leaders, will be there to greet you when you arrive. Before then, there are a couple important things to cover including theme night, what to expect, frequently asked questions and your personalised packing list. THEME NIGHT MYSTERY OUTING Aghrrrr! Looks like there be nother pirate gathering! It s time to find your wooden leg, eye patch and sword (perhaps feather sword?) to be ready for Tannum Sands first ever pirate gathering! Theme night is where we get to dress up and have a good time. The more you get into character, the bettarrrr! *We ll be bringing up extra Pirate costumes & props so if you don t have any on hand, don t worry! So we are going offsite this year and want to make sure you have a good time. To do this you need to make sure you re wearing clothes you can move freely in and have closed-in shoes. That is all we need to tell you for now FUZZY WRITING MATERIAL There is a section on your packing list that includes letter-writing pieces this is for fuzzy writing. We will explain more on camp, but all you need to really be prepared for is to write a letter. Contact Information: Tiffany Hartwig tiffanyhartwig.1@gmail.com Joshua Pukallus Jpukallus@outlook.com

2 Can I bring my phone? FAQ Prior Expectations We want camp to be a place where you feel welcome, accepted, and comfortable to be yourself. To make this possible for everyone we encourage full participation in all activities (after all, the leaders have gone into great planning to make some super fun things for you). Of course, if an activity arises that you re not comfortable with, tell a leader and we re happy to sort it out then. Yes, you can bring it. But when you arrive, it will be collected, locked away and then returned on the last morning of camp so it can be charged for your trip home. We want you to feel connected to the people around you. If your parents need to reach you or you need to reach someone for some reason, you or they can contact the directors who will have their phones on them. Do I need money? No, you don t need it. If you wish to purchase some fundraising chocolates on camp, then that is up to you, but no more than $20. I don t know anyone, I m not feeling pumped. IT S OK! Many others are in the same position as you and what better to look forward to than making life-long friends you won t want to leave on the last day. Prayer CLW is big on prayer. This camp is more than just those that are there for the week. There are stacks of people back home who are praying for you and for the camp. Between now and the 24 th we would love prayer for safe travels and final planning! Contact Information: Tiffany Hartwig tiffanyhartwig.1@gmail.com Joshua Pukallus Jpukallus@outlook.com The CQ CLW team are super excited to have you come along and be a part of this annual unforgettable experience and we hope you are too!

3 Packing List Personal Items Toothbrush & toothpaste Shampoo, conditioner, body wash Deodorant Shower towel & face washer Beach towel Medication In a zip lock bag with camper s name, dosage and time Bedding Pillow SHEETS Sleeping bag / blanket Optional: favourite teddy CHECK DOUBLE CHECK As much as Tiff loves to pack extra just in case someone doesn t bring something, it would be super helpful to go through this list 2 times (thus the 2 checking columns). For your help, I ve also highlighted a couple of commonly forgotten items. Clothes Items may include (just a guideline) UNDERWEAR! & Socks T-shirt Pants: Short & Long (skirts not advised) Jumper / Jacket Shoes: open and enclosed footwear (walking shoes are great!) 4 Important Information Mobile Phones One of the great features of camp is the opportunity for campers to disconnect from the distractions and pressures of life and to fully immerse themselves in an experience of growth and fun. That s why we have a no mobile phone use rule on camp. Parents are most welcome to contact their child at any time during camp using the camp director s phone (details outlined on the front page). We also understand that parents may like their children to have a mobile phone for travelling to and from camp for safety reasons. Please note that mobile phones brought to camp will need to be handed in on arrival. Mobile phones will be kept in a secure location and handed back to the owner on the last morning of camp to allow the phone to charge. To help make this smoother, if your child is bringing a phone for transport purposes, please put the phone and charger in a named bag. Medication brought to camp If your child needs to bring medication, please have them hand it to the first aid officer on arrival to camp. Please read over the information below to help ensure that we can look after your child while they are on camp. Prescription medication: We suggest that any prescribed medication is brought to camp in a chemist-issued blister pack (which will include information on how this medication is to be administered). If you cannot supply your child s medication in a blister pack, please send the prescription medication(s) in its original packaging and with information on how this medication is to be administered, and have it all contained within a clearly named zip lock bag. Non-prescription medication: If your child requires non-prescription medication (ie. paracetamol, cold and flu tablets, etc.) please ensure that this medication features a pharmacy issued label detailing child s name and dosage requirements. Asthma Inhalers: If your child has asthma, please supply two (2) asthma reliever inhalers for them on camp. One inhaler is to be given to the first-aid officer and the other is to be retained by your child. Please ensure that these inhalers have your child s name clearly visible. Sickness on camp If during the camp your child becomes ill, the directors and first aid officers will assess and take the appropriate action to ensure your child is well looked after on camp. If your child develops symptoms that indicate a flu or contagious disease such as Chicken pox or measles, the directors will ring you and ask for your child to be collected from camp. Photography and Videos on camp LYQ will have an official photographer recording all the great memories on camp. A collection of photos from camp will be available for campers to view and download from our on-line photo gallery after camp. Details will be ed to campers and parents once the final camp photos are available. We ask that young people refrain from bringing cameras and other media recording devices on camp, as we cannot guarantee their safety or monitor their use while on camp. Any images from camp must not to be displayed on public websites like Facebook and Instagram by

5 campers. Some parents indicate to us that they do not wish for their child to be included in promotional photos, and this includes photos used in the public domain. Travelling Off-site/On-site activities During camp, some campers may be leaving the campsite via bus transport or leaders cars to be part of an activity. If you wish to know more about any of the activities on camp, feel free to contact the directors to find out more (contact details on the front page of this letter.) Appropriate clothing Campers are required to wear appropriate clothing whilst on camp. Clothing must be sun smart and not too revealing or offensive to others. Please take the time to discuss this with your child if necessary. LYQ communication during camp LYQ will use and/or text messages to keep parents/guardians informed of changes to situations and important information about the camp during the week while your child is away. We will also have regular updates and a snapshot of photos from the camp on Facebook during the week. To like our page, search for Lutheran Youth of Queensland. Driving to camp Due to the fact that camp is jam-packed week of activities that will tire out the campers, we ask that NO campers who have obtained their P licence plates are to drive themselves or other campers to camp. Brisbane Bus Please contact Tiffany for all information and updates as this is not a LYQ organised bus.
