1 Wow! August was definitely my most fun month with this group, yet. And I didn t even make it to all the activities. I got to know some of you better, and met several members for the first time. I ll bet I get to meet many more in September. It s shaping up to be even busier than August! The first day of Fall is September 23rd, and Bikes, Blues and Barbecue kicks off the next day. But before that our Pig Trail Dealership is throwing their big Eighth Anniversary blast and we re going to be there selling water. You need to put the 13th on your calendar, because rumor has it there s going to be a special HOG event that day! The best music, food and riding of the year is upon us. And I ve not even mentioned our own chapter rides, dinner rides and other activities. If you can survive September, look out! Our activities gurus are putting the final touches on October, November and even December. You really, really need to be at the meeting Saturday to see what s in store. You probably can t do it all, but if you re like me, you ll wish you could. And keep checking the Facebook pages. Your very active chapter has many members sending out the invite for a great ride on short notice. Don t forget, if Saturday s weather is dry, we ll plan to meet outside at the Pig Pen. Lisa Vail As daylight gets shorter and the nights get longer it does not mean that you have to stop riding. Fall is one of the best times of the year to ride. You can watch the trees turn colors and the d*** heat is behind us. Don't be one of the riders that put your bike up for the year just because Labor Day is over. Do as Keith would say SILR!!!! We have BBBQ coming up and with that said with 300 members in the HOG Group and everyone at the first of the year, stated that giving money to organizations was an important thing for us to do, it is time to STAND UP AND HELP US OUT with the water sales. If you have already signed up GOOD for you and if you have not, please do so. ~Bob

2 Here is some sage advice from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation on Replacing Your Helmet Replace your helmet if it was involved in a crash; it probably absorbed some impact shock. Some helmet manufacturers will inspect and, when possible, repair a damaged helmet. If you drop your helmet and think it might be damaged, take advantage of this service. Most helmet manufacturers recommend replacing your helmet every few years. If you notice any signs of damage before then, replace it sooner. Why replace your helmet every few years if it doesn't appear damaged? Its protective qualities may deteriorate with time and wear. The chin strap may fray or loosen at its attaching points; the shell could be chipped or damaged. The best reason is that helmets keep improving. Chances are that the helmet you buy in a couple of years will be better stronger, lighter, and more comfortable than the one you own now. It might even cost less! Can't remember when you bought your present helmet? Check the chin strap or permanent labeling. New helmets must have the month and date of production stamped on it. If there's no date at all, you should definitely replace your helmet now! SILR Screw It Lets Ride ~Keith Poor August was a Fun in the Sun month with a great LOH pool party hosted at Dave and Kareen Turner's Log Cabin! Not just any Log Cabin, but one with a pool complete with a rock wall waterfall. Thanks Dave and Kareen for such a great party! September 13 LOH will be selling water at Pig Trail's Anniversary. Please let Darlene Smith Lee know if you can help. This will replace our original water sales date of September 21. September Junk It Ride????? No, not your bikes! We will be finding treasures at Flea-Markets in Prairie Grove and eat lunch at Gabby's. If you are a two-up rider, bring your driver, or just come in your car/van. This is not just for the ride. If shopping and eating is enough for you you can call it a day, but for those who want to continue our day we will continue with a ride to Devils Den State Park. Meet at Pig Trail HD at 9. If you are bringing a vehicle, please call me at and let me know so we can have a plan for those who purchase things that won't fit on their bike! I will also pick up your stuff for you as well. ~Yevon

3 We have been very busy riding this last month; to everyone who participated in any of the the lunch rides, dinner rides, breakfast rides (sense a theme here?), after meeting rides, the overnight trip, Chapter Meetings or any other activity, thanks for joining us! For anyone that has not been able to join us, please do, there are still many opportunities to Ride and Have Fun. We have several rides on the calendar for September and October. Another opportunity to participate and meet other members is to volunteer. Please consider helping with water sales, leading or sweeping rides, helping with the upcoming charity events, etc. Remember, every time you volunteer you are entered in the Volunteer Drawing for 3 $100 gift cards at the end of the year. To volunteer simply contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Darlene Lee Smith or any of the Chapter Officers. Please join us for our two remaining special events, a 3-day weekend Fall Foliage Ride starting on October 31st and mark your calendars now for Saturday night December 6th for the Chapter Christmas Party; some details will be announced at Saturday s Chapter Meeting and full details will be ed to everyone as soon as everything's finalized.
