Introduction The Royal Geelong show is the largest regional show in Victoria attracting more than 100,000 competitors, visitors and spectators over four days of competition.

4 Introduction The Royal Geelong show is the largest regional show in Victoria attracting more than 100,000 competitors, visitors and spectators over four days of competition. Our 2018 Royal Geelong Show will be held from the Thursday 18 th to Sunday 21 st of October. The Royal Geelong Agricultural and Pastoral Society is a not-for-profit organisation that prides itself in providing the community with a family friendly event giving city people a chance to experience rural life. A large group of volunteers and our small team of dedicated staff work tirelessly all year round to provide an agricultural extravaganza for the whole family. The society also proudly supports local community groups and other not for-profit organisations during the four-day event. With Royal Show status, the competition side of the Show attracts a wide range of exhibitors from across the state. Showcasing a large variety of events including equestrian, cattle, sheep, poultry, arts, craft, cookery, donkeys, goats, canaries, budgerigars, dogs, shearing, alpacas, rabbits, school exhibits and concert bands. Support from major and general sponsors enables the Royal Geelong Agricultural and Pastoral Society Inc. to continue to present the largest regional agricultural show in the state. You are invited to join the Society in showcasing Geelong and surrounding district s produce, animals and community. 5 Why Sponsor the show Sponsors of the Royal Geelong Show get the opportunity to be a part of the largest community event in Geelong. Sponsors receive recognition within their section and with our wider show community. The Geelong Royal Show recognises supporters of our show throughout the year. General sponsorship is used for Prizes and Trophies won by competitors during the 4 days of the show. Sponsors can provide product, services or vouchers as prizes. Each section is unique in the way they operate to suit the needs of their enthusiasts and exhibitors. You can choose which section you would like to support knowing your sponsorship directly funds your area of interest. Royal Show Experience Entry for the show is set at affordable rates with children under 7 free and the opportunity to purchase early bird tickets and family passes at a discounted price.

Due to popular demand a feature of the 2018 show will be the return of the Monster Truck.

Membership to the Society is also available with a junior membership at $40 and annual membership priced $80. Arena entertainment provides a spectacular showcase of entertainment. Due to popular demand a feature of the 2018 show will be the return of the Monster Truck. The Monster Truck holds the world record for the longest wheelie and will be supported by unique one-of-a-kind vehicles including a jet car and wheelie ball. An entertaining display of attractions are selected to provide old fashioned family fun and entertainment. The evening entertainment finishes with a colourful fireworks display. A family favourite Harry s Farmyard pavilion provides a wonderful opportunity for people to learn about and engage with farm animals bringing the country charm right into the city. Attractions and hands on experiences are a highlight of every show. The many free activities around the grounds providing experience for everyone to enjoy no matter their age. Amusement rides provided by the Showman s Guild of Victoria varies each year adding to the excitement. The carnival atmosphere is enhanced by family favourites including clowns and dodgem cars and highlighted with foodies delights with tastes from the carnival to gourmet dishes. Sectional Information Cattle The cattle section prides itself on its growth and hospitality to competitors. The Cattle committee go above and beyond looking after all local and interstate visitors.

Without support of the sponsors this section wouldn t be able to offer the growing prize pool to complement the country charm of our cattle section, something the Society is proud of.

Evening get togethers enhance the experience of exhibiting at the Royal Geelong Show. Without support of the sponsors this section wouldn t be able to offer the growing prize pool to complement the country charm of our cattle section, something the Society is proud of. Our four-day show provides opportunity to showcase Dairy and Beef cattle. The Royal Geelong Show attracts Dairy Cattle exhibitors from all over Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales travel to Geelong Royal to exhibit in a full schedule of classes including all inmilk classes. The Junior Dairy classic and interbreed classes are strongly contested with entries growing each year. Beef Cattle feature in the Royal Geelong Show and a schedule of events combining many breeds, attracts exhibitors from far and wide. Fodder Fodder continues to be one of the original events of Agricultural Shows. The fodder competition compares the quality of pastures and crops on farm.

Samples of the fodder are displayed in the Hall of Agriculture giving city visitors the opportunity to experience agriculture at its finest.

The Judge visits the farms to view the standing crops in the paddocks and awarding points against set criteria. Samples of the fodder are displayed in the Hall of Agriculture giving city visitors the opportunity to experience agriculture at its finest. Award winning examples of grazing pastures, several types of harvested fodder, including canola, wheat, oats, barley and lentils are displayed. With sponsorship the Fodder section continues to grow, pardon the pun. 10 Harry s Farmyard Harry s Farmyard started 24 years ago by a gentle man by the Name of Harry Preece. Harry was previously involved in the cattle pavilion but then decided to start a baby animal display. Starting from a small marque with a few calves and lambs Harry s Farmyard quickly grew. Gradually building on the range of farm animals in the nursery. Harry provided the kids with the opportunity to experience animals up-close and personal along with fun activities like face painting and other kid s attractions in the Farmyard Royal Geelong Show 18 th -21 st October 10 P a g e

A committed group of volunteers, who enjoy taking the time to chat as people pass through, are supported by local farmers who provide livestock for the four days of the show.

11 Harry s Farmyard moved from the marquee in 2005 into the shed that still houses it today. Each year a visit through Harry s farmyard provides an educational display for children of all ages. Harry s Farmyard also provides students with work experience with many animal studies students taking part of the running of the nursery during the show, giving them hands on animal experience. Homecraft The Homecraft section is one of the more traditional aspects of our Show.

Homecraft s offers numerous classes for exhibitors including Junior and schools in cookery, arts and crafts, horticulture, woodwork, photography, woolcraft and many more.

Sponsorship supports prizes throughout all Homecraft sections, giving the fabulous ladies of Homecraft the opportunity to expand their section.

12 Homecraft The Homecraft section is one of the more traditional aspects of our Show. Our homecraft ladies work tirelessly throughout the year to display the amazing works produced by our talented locals. Homecraft s offers numerous classes for exhibitors including Junior and schools in cookery, arts and crafts, horticulture, woodwork, photography, woolcraft and many more. Homecraft section is growing each year with record entries of over 3,000 exhibits in our 2017 show. Sponsorship supports prizes throughout all Homecraft sections, giving the fabulous ladies of Homecraft the opportunity to expand their section. The Woolcraft section compliments the Sheep section with displays and demonstrations of spinning, weaving, felting and knitting. These techniques demonstrate the processes from the sheep s back to the finished product. The Woolcraft section facilitates a very high standard of competition which showcases the many talents of those who exhibit. 17 Horses Our Royal Show status attracts horse exhibitors from far and wide with interstate visitors increasing each year. The Horse section of the Royal Geelong Show offers a full schedule of events for our equestrian competitors. Competitors are often attracted to the breed ring, with it being the only breed Royal show in Victoria. The Grand National Qualifying classes also attract top level Show horses with success in those events earning them a ticket to the largest show horse extravaganza in the country. Sponsorship gives your business or company the opportunity to support championship events of your choice. Poultry The poultry pavilion comes alive over the four days of the show. The Geelong & District Poultry Club has been a part of the Royal Geelong A & P Society for 60 years.

With increasing entries, the Geelong & District Poultry Club put on a great display of the various poultry breeds.

18 Poultry The poultry pavilion comes alive over the four days of the show. The Geelong & District Poultry Club has been a part of the Royal Geelong A & P Society for 60 years. Various breeds of birds are exhibited at the show including water fowl, land fowl large and bantam. With increasing entries, the Geelong & District Poultry Club put on a great display of the various poultry breeds. The poultry exhibitors provide an educational experience within their shed with a display of chickens and are always on hand to discuss their birds with the public passing through the pavilion. Prime Lamb & Beef Carcase This is a unique event where the animal is judged live on the Hoof and as a carcase on the Hook. Classes are split into three categories light, medium and heavy.

Sponsorship allows the carcase committee to produce a more prestigious competition growing each year with special prizes and awards.

19 Prime Lamb & Beef Carcase This is a unique event where the animal is judged live on the Hoof and as a carcase on the Hook. Classes are split into three categories light, medium and heavy. Live judging takes place prior to the show giving exhibitors the opportunity to compare their animals with other exhibits. On hook is judged on the Thursday with presentation at MC Herd and Sons. Sponsorship allows the carcase committee to produce a more prestigious competition growing each year with special prizes and awards. Interstate and local primary producers are attracted to the event which offers large prizemoney and recognition within the local beef cattle and prime lamb industries. Any beef breed or cross breed are accepted into the event, with the prime lamb competition highlighting cross breed lambs. The Royal Geelong Show prime lamb competition is one of the largest in Victoria. Schools Competitions Schools competitions are a great incentive for schools to get involved with the Royal Geelong Show. The school bands competition kicks off on the Thursday morning of the show.

20 Schools Competitions Schools competitions are a great incentive for schools to get involved with the Royal Geelong Show. The school bands competition kicks off on the Thursday morning of the show. Over the years we have focused on different themes including Jazz and Concert. Senior schools from around Geelong attend each year providing Thursday crowds with fantastic entertainment from gifted students. Support in the school s section sponsorship would help the society continue to put on a crowdpleasing event that supports local schools. The Education pavilion becomes a hive of activity from the Monday before the show with set up and judging throughout the week. Primary schools from around the region put together magical displays of art work. Art teachers do an amazing job facilitating the children s entries. This year we are encouraging schools to take up the Country Charm meets City Excitement theme. Sheep The Sheep section offers a fantastic exhibition of the Sheep industry all in one pavilion. With competitions ranging from Stud Sheep, Shearing, Blade Shearing, Fleece, Prime Lamb and Woolcraft.

Vintage Machinery The Vintage Machinery section of the Society was first founded in 1970. Show casing a working machinery display demonstrating the methods of early farming and industry in Australia.

The display of tractors, stationary engines, equipment and tools demonstrate the methods of early agriculture from Geelong and surrounding districts.

22 Vintage Machinery The Vintage Machinery section of the Society was first founded in Show casing a working machinery display demonstrating the methods of early farming and industry in Australia. The vintage Machinery section meet weekly throughout the year with showtime giving them the opportunity to put their work on display. The display of tractors, stationary engines, equipment and tools demonstrate the methods of early agriculture from Geelong and surrounding districts. Some of the unique items include a working chaffcutter, grain crusher and water pumps. The newly renovated Boiler will drive any piece of equipment within the vintage section that requires steam. Another feature is the 1950 marine ship engine that came off a dredger from the Melbourne Harbour Trust. Vintage members are passionate about their section of our society with junior vintage enthusiasts signing up every year. The Show Features Young Achiever awards encouraging younger members to fine tune their skills of restoration. Other competitions include Best Restoration and Best working display. Today s competitors show their old-time axe skills cutting different logs, cross cut sawing logs, and using three boards to climb a tree and fell it. The sport actively encourages young people, with increasing numbers of Juniors and Novices taking up the old skills. The Royal Geelong Show holds a two-day crowd-pleasing Woodchop extravaganza, attracting many competitors from the axemen s association.
