Over the cming mnths we will increase ur digital presence and use it as the centrepiece f all cmmunicatins fr ur members, friends, spnsrs and the general public. The website is still in its infancy. 2 Frm the President... Happy New Year! Welcme t the 2017 seasn Our 50th anniversary! Our 50th year represents an exciting time fr past and present members f the patrl. The 50th Anniversary dinner will be held n Saturday 28 Octber 2017 at Dckside, Darling Harbur. Please diarise. If we can get the current rund f Natinal Medals prcessed n time we will cmbine the 50th Anniversary with ur secnd rund f Natinal Medals. It will be a fantastic evening and it is likely that tickets will be at a premium, s bk early. Cmmittee wrk cntinues year rund. Since the seasn clse, the Cmmittee was fcussed n preparing fr the Annual General Meeting and the General Meeting which we held n 21 Nvember 2016, and since then n the Memrandum f Understanding (MU), rganisatin structure, develping a perpetual calendar and making decisins fr the 2017 seasn. The perpetual calendar is a tl nt nly fr the Cmmittee t use in managing the patrl, but als t help each member cmplete their tasks. As yu are aware we are taking steps t make patrlling easy and fun ; hwever we need each member t take respnsibility fr thse activities they must cmplete. This alng with the rganisatin structure will be published sn. When I tk ver as President a clear message I received frm yu was that the Cmmittee needed t imprve its cmmunicatins. Cnsequently, each mnth I prduce a Member Update aimed at addressing this pint. At the Cmmittee meeting n 13 December 2016 and again n 10 January 2017 we discussed hw we can further imprve ur cmmunicatins. Specifically, we are very cnscius f the need nt t bmbard the membership with a cnstant stream f s, etc. which has happened n ccasins, but rather have a single effective cmmunicatin tl. Histrically, this was Perished Thughts and the Cmmittee has agreed we will return t using Perished Thughts as the primary cmmunicatin channel as Steve Hwe has cmmitted t a mnthly publicatin. It will include a President s sectin (Member Update) and as well as ther news and cntributins frm ther Cmmittee members and members generally. I may cmmunicate separately n imprtant matters, if the tpic is cnsidered imprtant enugh t have its wn cmmunicatin. As this is my last Member Update I thank everyne wh has helped in its preparatin and lk frward t cmmunicating thrugh Perished Thughts. Natinal Medals The criterin fr a member t have their name put frward t the Gvernr General fr a natinal medal is: 15 years f patrlling that is a requirement f the Gvernr General. These years d nt need t be cntinuus. On average 20 pints per year have been achieved. Special cnsideratin will be given t unique circumstances, e.g. if a member takes leave f absence fr medical reasns and rdinarily they wuld have patrlled then cnsideratin will be given. S please d nt interpret my strng views in this area as a lack f cnfidence in the great training wrk f ASPA. It is pleasing t see that the Australian Ski Patrl Assciatin (ASPA) is in a strng financial psitin. Attached are their Financial Statements. As it can be seen their surplus (prfit) as at 30 June 2016 was apprximately $62,000 and the Cash at Bank is arund $270,000. Peter Burzynski has stepped dwn frm his web-master and training rle at ASPA. Over the last 6 years Peter has been an imprtant player in intrducing technlgy t the ASPA curse, in the same way as he has helped lead the way with technlgical changes at PSP. The Cmmittee thanks Peter fr his gd wrk at ASPA and his PSP ambassadrship. On Saturday 5 Nvember 2016, the ASPA AGM was held. David Genner and I attended n behalf f Perisher. 6 Is larger than all the Victrian resrts cmbined, i.e. 1,245 cmpared t 1,100 hectares. Althugh nt readily available the number f skier days and therefre number f incidents, if the accident rate is cnsistent acrss resrts then the vlume f incidents will be cnsiderably mre than all the ther resrts. The number f Custmer Service events alne is significant. Even thugh ski patrlling first aid skills are transferable frm resrt t resrt, the size f Perisher Blue means that resrt specific skills are significantly greater. There are many examples f this: The number, lcatin and methds f extractin pints, e.g. incident extractin abve and belw fty fields at Blue Cw. Perisher has bth the traditinal style f resrt where the village is at the bttm f the hill, e.g. Perisher, Smiggin Hles and Guthega, but als the upside dwn mdel, i.e. Blue Cw, where the resrt is at the tp f the hill in the same manner as the Htham ski resrt. The use f the Ski Tube as an evacuatin tl. Cmplexity f sweeps, e.g. bringing the Cws hme, rund the wrld and rund the universe. Lcatin f equipment utside f bump huts, e.g. Cascade crner. Understanding the fastest and easiest way t a place, e.g. Express Bump hut frm the bttm f the Pretty Valley Duble. It is faster t ski t the bttm f Telemark, then ride it, then ski t the Express and ride it t mid statin, then just get the Pretty Valley Duble. The number and size f fun parks, e.g. Slpe Style curse, Leichardt Terrain Park, Tube Twn, etc. Crss cunty trails and circuits and relative clseness t Charltte s Pass. We are after phts!!
