1 19 May 2017 CLICK FOR WEB VERSION Dear Members, There are now less than three weeks to go to the 2017 EEAA Leaders Forum and Global Exhibitions Day and I invite you to lock-in your registration. We re tackling issues that are on the radar of our Members. The speakers have been carefully chosen and the program is very strong. For the first time we ll be hearing from Rory Govan, Associate Research Director of Explori the UK-based company that works with organisers around the world to understand the lifecycle of visitors and exhibitors to shows. The data is fascinating and exposes trends that should compel organisers in Australasia to reassess the implications for our region. The question we will be asking those on stage is whether the exhibition model that dominates our sector needs to evolve. And to help us unpack that opportunity, we ll be speaking to some of our leading experiential curators. We re also looking at gender and cultural diversity. Our sector employs a lot of bright young women what can we do to ensure they flourish in our industry and reach their C-suite potential. We re also going to be touching for the first time on cultural diversity and the marketing opportunities this may present especially for organisers. The in conversation sessions with EEAA Members are always very insightful and we're looking forward to hearing from a crosssection of organisers and suppliers from the EEAA community. 3 COUNTDOWN TO EEAA 2017 LEADERS FORUM EEAA s Leaders Forum is on 7 8 June and we are pleased to introduce some of our key presenters: Rory Govan, Associate Research Director, Explori. Rory is our special guest from the UK and he will present the key findings of Explori s research into the lifecycle of visitors to shows. Explori is engaged by major organisers around the world to track the profile and habits of visitors and the insights present a compelling profile of visitors and exhibitors. Rory will share his observations of visitor and exhibitor behaviours, his understanding of the market and the relationship between satisfaction and loyalty. This is the first time Explori has presented this content in Australia. Oz Dean, Executive Creative Director, Jack Morton Jeremy Garling, Creator, Fourth Wall Jodie Richmond, Marketer and former EEAA Board Member These talented experts will discuss curation of the customer experience. What are the trends? What are the opportunities? And what can our event organisers learn from Australia s leaders in experiential marketing? What happens when you effectively combine online engagement with live interaction? Stuart Frank, Events Marketing Manager, Asia Pacific, Salesforce Stuart will discuss the strategy driving the success of the Salesforce World Tour in Australia. It is a highly curated event which grew by 30 per cent last year. In this case study we will hear about the event activations for all its targeted stakeholders and clients.

4 Libby Lyons, Director, Workplace Gender Equality Agency Libby will discuss all the reasons why leaders should be champions for gender diversity. Libby is the Australian government s chief advocate for equality in the workplace and will put the spotlight on the strengths that result from a diverse and engaged workplace from board level to operations. EEAA has received positive feedback from Members and Stakeholders about the speaker line-up. We are pleased to provide this opportunity to explore practical business solutions and valuable networking opportunities for the organisers, associations, venues and suppliers in our community. This will be followed by the EEAA Global Exhibitions Day Reception. Nominations have closed for the EEAA Executive Committee and candidates will soon be announced. 5 7 JUNE - JOIN US ON GLOBAL EXHIBITIONS DAY AND BE PART OF THE CAMPAIGN Launched by UFI, the Global Association for the Exhibition Industry and the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE), Global Exhibitions Day (GED) is an annual advocacy initiative to promote the importance of exhibitions. The day highlights the vital role of exhibitions and events as a driver of economies worldwide. EEAA is holding a Global Exhibitions Day Reception to kick off the celebrations and mark this important global campaign. Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier and Treasurer, Jonathan O Dea MP will join the event to show the support of the NSW Government for our sector. 6 457 VISAS CHANGES IMPACTS EEAA MEMBERS After the Australian Government s announcement to abolish 457 visas, the EEAA contacted Members by survey to examine the effects of this decision. We had a strong response rate with 70 Members responding, 36 per cent stating they had employees on 457 visas. Members expressed concerns that the policy changes could impact the ability to find skilled labour for our sector and agreed they would benefit from EEAA looking into the matter further. This issue is important to Members and the EEAA will be advising the Australian Government of the adverse impact of the changes. Eventbrite s co-founder and CEO Julia Hartz was in Australia and shared her story of building the world s largest online ticketing platform. EEAA was honoured to be part of this event and we thank Eventbrite for the opportunity. EEAA JOINED ACCI AT THE WESTERN SYDNEY POST-BUDGET LUNCH. With the Federal Budget s big commitment to infrastructure and the second airport for Western Sydney, EEAA took the opportunity to join the Australian Chamber of Commerce and industry for a post-budget briefing in Parramatta and to represent our sector. 8 KEEPING SAFETY AND SUSTAINABILITY IN FOCUS On the eve of World Day for Safety and Health at Work, EEAA held a special workshop with WorkSafe Victoria. Riggers, stand build companies, labour hire contractors, venues, organisers and associations joining us. It is the responsibility of every person to be vigilant every day about safety. Held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Forum also put the spotlight on sustainability practices and how to improve upon 'random acts of environmental kindness'. The Advance Program offers marketing partnerships between Tourism Australia and industry. The evaluation process will assess alignment with Tourism Australia s strategy for business events. 9 FEDERAL BUDGET REVIEW Treasurer Scott Morrison has handed down the Federal Budget in Canberra, things to note are: Treasurer Scott Morrison The focus on Western Sydney as well as the second Sydney Airport investment confirms the Government s commitment to driving economic development through this long-awaited development. The internal rail line linking Melbourne to Sydney is also an indicator of commitment to regional economic development along the corridor. Relevant to our sector are the opportunities for growing apprenticeships and new costs imposed on companies who import labour. There was no new money for business events bidding despite years of lobbying by all Associations through the Business Events Council of Australia.
