1 6 September, 2018 VIEW WEB VERSION There are still two weeks until the closing date for entries to the EEAA Awards for Excellence - I hope all our Members are preparing submissions to showcase their best work for Mark the 5th of December in your diaries as this will be the presentation dinner celebration at ICC Sydney. Have you heard our big news? Tourism Australia has extended its Platinum Partnership of the EEAA Young Stars Program by adding a scholarship for the winner of the Richard Geddes Young Achiever Award to travel to Tokyo to attend the Asia-Pacific meeting of The Global Association for the Exhibitions Industry (UFI). What a great incentive and reward for an emerging leader. A big thank you to Penny Lion and John O'Sullivan at Tourism Australia for her continued commitment to our work nurturing the careers of our younger Members. It's been a great privilege to catch up with lots of Members over the past month at events - it's a busy time of year and we've seen some great work being undertaken across the industry. Check out the huge list of Member events on throughout September. This week I visited the ETF team at their expansive facilities in Rydalmere and we welcomed Royal International Convention Centre, Brisbane and Luna Park to our Chatswood office. It's always great to meet up with our Members. Australia is on the radar of the Thai Convention and Exhibition Bureau and COEX, the Korean Exhibition Centre - representatives of both organisations visited the EEAA in recent days looking for ways to strengthen their presence in Australia.

2 I won't have a rant about recent events in Canberra - as I've done enough of that since the circus that surrounded the dumping of Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. But I do want our Members to know that we have reached out to the new Prime Minister, Scott Morrison with whom I have worked with in my past roles. We have sent a strong message that ongoing instability and constant leadership changes are unhelpful to business and Australia s international reputation. We have urged the Morrison Government to get on with the job of providing strong and stable leadership with a focus on policy, fiscal responsibility and creating an environment that enables both business and community to flourish. Before I sign off, I wanted to let you know that we look forward to welcoming to Australia, Chris Skeith who heads up the Association of Event Organisers in the UK. Chris will be our special guest at the 2018 Global Exchange being held on 3 October in Sydney. This is part of our program of keeping Members in touch with global leaders. Registrations for this event will open next week. And finally, a big welcome to our latest new Member, The Visual Storytellers - and in particular, Paul Telling who can capture the vibe and content of your events with live illustration. 3 One of our bright young achievers will be heading to Tokyo to attend the Asia-Pacific summit of the Global Association for the Exhibition Industry. This is the prestigious prize, sponsored for the first time, by Tourism Australia and it will be awarded to the 2018 winner of the Richard Geddes Young Achiever. On March 2019, Australasia will be represented at the UFI event by our award winner. What a great incentive to enter the EEAA 2018 Awards for Excellence. The scholarship is part of an expanded partnership between Tourism Australia and EEAA to support the careers of young people working in our industry. If you know someone who deserves recognition please nominate them for this prestigious award. Hear from EEAA Members who are the passionate emerging leaders in the campaign to improve practices across our sector. The panel includes: Pedro Gallo, Senior Operations Manager, Diversified Communications; Laura Goddard, CSR Executive at ICC Sydney, Jamal Gittens, Operations Manager, MCEC. Register now. 3 October, 12noon pm - EEAA 2018 Gold & Platinum Partners Lunch & Political Insiders Update, Sydney - Our popular roundtable with leading political commentators working in the heart of Australian politics. Hear about what's on the horizon in the upcoming Federal and State elections. We'll have some of the finest political commentators in the country on stage to discuss the state of play in policy - and importantly what the current political landscape means for our industry and the country. The madness in Canberra two weeks ago is a salient reminder that no one

EEAA continues to take advantage of every opportunity to get the message out about the exciting range of career opportunities in our sector. EEAA Chief Executive, Joyce DiMascio recently met with around 40 students studying event management at TAFE Ryde Campus in Sydney to pitch the diversity of career pathways in our sector. The students were attending a presentation ceremony where their volunteering at Australian Gaming Expo was recognised by GTA's former CEO, Ross Ferrar. Some had also volunteered at the Sydney International Boat show. The EEAA has a major focus on attracting young people to take up careers in our sector - among the measures taken are the launch of a new traineeship program. Also check out EEAA's 'career for life' campaign which targets career advisors, parents and school leavers. This was launched during the Global Exhibitions Day program delivered in June. It features 10 talented EEAA Members with wide-ranging careers in our sector.

5 Event students at the TAFE Ryde Campus hear from EEAA about careers in our sector BOARD NEWS: ROSS FERRAR STEPS DOWN FROM EEAA BOARD AND RETIRES FROM GTA A big thank you to Ross Ferrar, the association representative on the EEAA Board who has announced his retirement. Ross Ferrar was CEO of Gaming Technologies Association (GTA) and was elected to the EEAA Board in He served as Chief Executive of GTA for 17 years and was instrumental in the success of the Association's annual show, the Australian Gaming Expo. We thank Ross for his tremendous support of the Association over many years and as a Board member over the past 15 months. He has made a big impact during his time on the Board and we will miss his wise counsel and understanding of association matters. EEAA MEETS WITH KEY INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATIONS Australia is on the radar of two key international organisations who are currently in Australia promoting their activities. Coex, Korea's leading Convention and Exhibition Centre and organiser and the Thai Convention and Exhibition Bureau have both met with EEAA in recent days. Coex is organising its exhibition in Australia, the first outside Asia on 6-7 November at the Hilton Hotel. EEAA was able to update Coex on the opportunities for working with key suppliers in the Australian industry for the launch of its Korea Brand Expo, Sydney. A delegation from the Thai Convention and Exhibition Bureau visited EEAA to discuss opportunities for greater collaboration between the Australian industry and Thailand. The bureau is particularly interested in outbound Association and corporate meetings and lifting its marketing profile in Australia.

EarthCheck s Platinum Certification recognises 10 consecutive years of best practice in sustainability. Both venues have displayed global sustainability leadership in business events. The Association has launched a major new initiative to tackle sustainability and reduce the environmental impact of the events sector.
