Many of the walkways are near ponds, streams and rvers. Please remember to take care around water. Respect walkway sgns, fences, flora and fauna, and the property of those who lve nearby. 5 User Gude Track Ratng Before settng out, check the degree of walkng dffculty for the track (noted on the ndvdual maps n ths brochure). The ratng scale s: Very easy Very hard Dogs Dogs are allowed on many walkways, but not all. Generally dogs are not allowed on the central areas of the Vctora Esplanade, on or around playgrounds or sports felds. Please look for the followng symbols on ndvdual walkway maps: Dogs must be on leash Dogs can be off leash but must be under control Please also: Ensure dogs are under control at all tmes and do not worry stock where walkways pass through rural areas. Remove dog ltter and use rubbsh bns where provded. Dog exercse areas are subject to change. Check the latest Dog Owners Handbook for the level of dog control requred on a walkway. Horses Cyclng Horses are allowed along the Rversde Walkway, the Otra Walkway and parts of Durham Street Reserve (Ashhurst). See ndvdual walkway maps for tracks sutable for cyclng. Share wth care and respect, call out when approachng walkers from behnd. Motorsed Tral Bkes or Vehcles Facltes Not permtted on any walkways. 6 Accessblty ASHHURST PATHWAYS All tracks are rated for ther ease of use for wheelchars and pushchars. Accessble - worth a try Walks are flat wth an even surface and there are no obstructons to hnder access. All kerb and channels have a ramp at approprate places, ncludng the car park. 12 Bledsloe Park - Old West Road Ths crcut extends across a varety of landscapes through natve bush, pne forest and farmland. Leavng the Turtea Stream behnd, the track emerges nto open space and a playground at the Atawha Road access pont, a great rest spot for adults and chldren alke. You can then opt to fnsh your walk on Old West Road, or contnue on under the brdge, nto the Turtea Walkway. 17 Lnklater walkway Lnklater Reserve, was purchased n 1995 by Councl. It has been developed over the last few years wth the help of the communty. A walkng track wnds through the ste and s easly accessble from the car park. The track takes advantage of the beautful vews across the cty to the Tararua Ranges. It navgates past the gully, planted by the local communty, up to the scenc ste of the gazebo, past the BMX Pump Track. 22 Mangaone Stream Pathway The Mangaone Stream Pathway stretches from Totara Road through to Mlson Lne and Flygers Lne. Although you can walk the stop banks on both sdes, the walkway markers swtch sdes from Amberley Avenue. Remember, you re on a stop bank so take all the usual precautons for beng around water. Underpasses are now provded for many of the road and ralway crossngs.
