1 NOHOANGA SITE INFORMATION SHEET TUCKERS BEACH, OTAGO Getting there This site is within the Tuckers Beach Wildlife Reserve, at approximately 280 Tuckers Beach Road, 15mins drive north of Queenstown township. From State Highway 6 (Frankton-Ladies Hwy), turn off onto Tuckers Beach Road (on the south side of the Shotover River). Follow Tuckers Beach Road approximately 3mins / 2.8km until you reach a turn off for Tuckers Beach Wildlife Reserve. 2 A carpark is being created at the bottom of the hill within the reserve. From the carpark area there will eventually be a gated road nohoanga users can follow that will lead them to the nohoanga site. The code to get through the gate will be given out with user authorisations. Until the gate system is put in place users can get to the nohoanga site following the formed path. At the clearing, turn off the formed road and onto the grassed track to get to the site. There is a marker at this point. The map below outlines the directions to the site. Physical description The nohoanga is a large and mostly flat area with good shelter provided by trees and bush. 3 Vehicle access and parking There is excellent two-wheel drive vehicle access to the site, and plenty of space for parking. Facilities and services There are no facilities or access to water on this site. Users will need to provide their own toilets, showers and water. The Queenstown Cycle Trails runs through the Reserve. There is cell phone reception on this site. All rubbish and waste must be removed on departure. See key contacts below for details of refuse and dumping stations. 4 Site restrictions The Reserve is home to many wildlife species, including bird species that use the area for nesting from August through to January. The map below shows the nesting areas, which are away from the nohoanga entitlement. Users are asked to take care not to disturb nesting birds when walking, and not to drive through the nesting area Please note this particular entitlement runs from September through to 16 May each year. Dogs must be on a leash at all times within the reserve to protect birding habitats. Fire restrictions may apply to this area. Please contact the Department of Conservation Area Office in Queenstown before using this site to assess the situation.
