Pcket Pets Small mammals (hamsters, gerbils, etc.) shuld be transprted in secure carriers suitable fr maintaining the animals while sheltered. Take bedding materials, fd bwls, and water bttles.

10 Get a Plan Planning The hurricane seasn begins in early summer and lasts thrugh late fall - June thrugh Nvember. It is imprtant fr yu t knw what t d in case f emergency. Yur persnal plan f actin details wh des what, where yu g and what yu take alng. Practice drills will help prepare yu in the event yu need t implement yur plan. By fllwing the steps prvided here, and adapting thse t fit yur specific situatin, yu will be better prepared fr a disastrus strm: Determine yur destinatin (t a relative, friend, mtel, htel, r public shelter). On a map, utline the quickest and safest rute needed t get t yur destinatin. Remember, bridges and lw-lying areas may be unsafe fr travel during a strm. Register thse in yur family wh needs special assistance fr a cunty special needs prgram. If yu have a pet, yu may want t register it at a pet-friendly shelter if yu need t evacuate the area. Review yur insurance plicies and cverage. Take phts and/r vide ftage f yur prperty. Stre this infrmatin with yur imprtant papers. Make cpies f the dcuments and phtgraphs and leave them with smene yu trust. Visually inspect yur hme and prperty. Make any repairs necessary (check rf fr lse shingles; the gutters and drains t ensure prper drainage; trees fr lse branches; the grunds fr debris r items such as lawn furniture that culd blw away). Purchase plywd, rpe, extra nails, and tarps fr prtecting windws and drs. Prepare an Emergency Supply Kit. Public shelters shuld be a last resrt fr thse wh have n ther chice If yu cannt drive yurself, nr have any family, friends r neighbrs wh can take yu t a shelter, yu are encuraged t register fr this service. All registered clients will be cntacted when a hurricane is threatening Mnre Cunty and given infrmatin n the Cunty s evacuatin plan. In all categry strms Special Needs clients wh have requested transprtatin t the Special Needs Shelter are taken t a staging area where they will bard a chartered bus and be taken t Flrida Internatinal University (FIU) in Miami, Mnre Cunty's designated ut-f-cunty shelter. At the time the client is cntacted, they must decide if they will be evacuating. There is n time fr a

17 2nd call. If evacuating, the client will be given an apprximate time they will be picked up. They must have all their supplies and belngings ready t g (see "What t Bring t a Shelter"). Please remember that space and supplies are limited at shelters. Very few cmfrts will be available. If yu need special fds, yu shuld bring a cuple days supply f fd that will nt spil. It may be several hurs befre shelters are fully supplied. Please remember t bring all prescriptin medicatins and imprtant papers. If yu have registered with Scial Services and requested transprtatin assistance, yu will be cntacted by phne in advance f evacuatin. When we call, yu will need t decide whether yu will be evacuating and let us knw at that time. We will nt be able t call yu back. If yu decide t evacuate, we will give yu an apprximate time we expect t pick yu up. Yu must have yur belngings and supplies packed and ready t g. T register please fill ut the Registry Applicatin frm (attached). Yu will need t print all f the frms except fr the pet registratin frms.
