These will present very real challenges. Thrugh skill develpment, Instructr encuragement and supprt, it is anticipated that each participant will vercme these individual and grup challenges. The results will be an increase in self-image and cnfidence, with a sense f satisfactin in having successfully cmpleted a very real challenge. Participants will be made aware f these key times f self and grup achievement. Activities are als run n a multi-level basis. Participants remain challenged and can achieve a successful utcme irrespective f physical ability. TSB TOPEC cncentrates n the natural settings f the bush, rivers, lakes, sea and muntains t prvide these challenges. Althugh nly 8km frm the centre f New Plymuth, the picturesque setting and distance frm main rads give it an atmsphere f islatin and tranquillity. On site r within easy travelling distance are a variety f suitable envirnments fr utdr activities. All fd is prvided. The participants will be invlved in the cking and cleaning duties during the week. There are tw separate ablutin blcks, there is als a separate shwer tilet / shwer rm which is wheel chair accessible. The main Ldge cntains a lunge and dining area, the cmmercial kitchen and administratin ffices. A large lg fire prvides winter warmth. The Davidsn Ldge is used fr presentatins, classrm based activities and has Data Screen, TV and DVD player, Internet Access, Desks and Seating fr 24+, and Kitchenette. TSB TOPEC Instructrs are n duty frm 9.00am until activities are cmpleted (apprx 4.30pm). TSB TOPEC Instructrs take full respnsibility fr participants safety and cnduct whilst n activities. They will prvide the duty f care required during this perid. TSB TOPEC Instructrs hld relevant Outdr qualificatins and are trained in the lcal envirnment, risk management and crisis management. Staff cmplete regular training and appraisals t ensure that safety is paramunt and that TSB TOPEC plicy is implemented effectively. At least tw TSB TOPEC staff will be qualified teachers while thers will have attended a recgnised curse f training. TSB TOPEC staff are experienced in assessment fr NCEA and have wrkplace r teaching qualificatins. Instructr / participant ratis will vary depending the nature f the activity, weather, grup ability and ther variables. Fr residential grups, generally ne Instructr will be respnsible fr managing a grup f participants thrughut the week. Activities can then be mdified t suit individual needs. Grup size may vary dependant n the specific activity Standard Operatin Prcedure ( SOP ) N tw weeks are the same and activities will be selected by individual Instructrs t meet the needs f individual grups, weather and envirnmental cnditins. Visiting adults / staff may wish t accmpany grups n activities which is encuraged and will allw shared experiences t be taken away. Other curses are available including skill develpment, prfessinal develpment, adult and crprate team building The standard adventure curse is designed t cater fr Year 10 participants wh are learning t accept respnsibilities in very real adventure settings. It is imprtant t realise that the utdrs & activities carried ut at TSB TOPEC cntain risks that cannt be cmpletely eliminated. We include this infrmatin s that participants are able t make an infrmed decisin befre a visit TSB TOPEC. We are fully infrming and disclsing these risks t fllw ur philsphy f challenge by chice. Participatin in all activities is by persnal chice. We have a cmprehensive Safety Management System and have been awarded the Outdrs Marks Safety accreditatin. TSB TOPEC is audited regularly by Outdrs Mark, by Maritime NZ and internally t ensure that ur peratin meets Natinal Industry requirements. Dcumentatin assciated with specific activities is can be viewed n request. Other prcesses in place include a Crisis Actin Plan - shuld any emergency arise. The Outdrs Mark Audit als lks at risk management, staff cmpetency, staff training, accident reprting and equipment. All equipment and facilities are checked regularly and replaced as required. Arrange pre-camp meetings t give ut relevant infrmatin and updates. All frms are available as dwnlads frm the TSB TOPEC website Ensure bth participants and parents receive adequate infrmatin. The payment and cllectin f curse fees has t be arranged. Permissin slips have t be cmpleted and cllected. They shuld cntain Names, Phne cntacts and Medical cnditins. Issue clthing and equipment lists. Encurage participants nt t purchase expensive items. TSB TOPEC has a range f such equipment fr participants use. (Refer t gear requirement sheet) Arrange Staffing. There must be a minimum f ne teacher / crdinatr available during the day and tw teachers (r adults) after 4.30 pm. Where pssible ne staff member shuld remain thrughut the week. A packed lunch will be needed fr day ne. Participants t arrive between 10am and 10.30am n the first day and leave by 1.30pm at the end f the curse. Individual Standard Operating prcedures will specify ratis and ther specific safety plicies/ The participants shuld be divided int three grups prir t the curse r upn arrival. A mix f ability and gender is recmmended (where apprpriate). A full list f participants names is required, in three activity grups. It is advisable t have ne r tw participants n standby in case f late injury r illness, t maintain curse numbers. Cabins will be allcated by TSB TOPEC staff n arrival this is nt negtiable. An Emergency First Aid kit is in the Yellw Bx in the visiting Adult leaders / Teachers Cabin. There is a list f imprtant phne numbers in the Emergency Flder. Parents r Guardian phne numbers are n permissin/medical frms in the Office and carried in the field by Teacher / Instructrs Cpies f all master participant infrmatin and medical frms are held in the Office. There is a lck up medical bx in the Teachers Accmmdatin t hld any participants drugs r medicatin. D nt hesitate t call fr Ambulance Fire Plice if it is cnsidered prudent. The main Fire bell can be activated frm beside the main drs in the lunge. Fire hses are lcated under the main ldge prch by the Alan Kirk, Egmnt and Opunake cabins. Fire extinguishers are lcated in the kitchen and ther cmmunal areas. The Emergency Assembly pint is at the climbing wall beside the rpes curse.
