1 ARRIVAL DAY PARADISE POINT SUMMER CAMP The Episcpal Dicese f Idah McCall, ID 2018 YOUTH CAMP INFORMATION PACKET Ultimate Adventure (June 17-23), STEAM Explrers (June 24-30), Extreme Adrenaline (July 8-14), Water Week (July 15-21), Teen Camp (July 22-28) During Check-In at any lcatin, yu are able t: Drp ff the required frms: Health Packet (Health Frm, Activities Permissin & Medical Authrizatin Frm) Add mney and check yur Brwn Bear stre accunt Take care f any accunt balances due Drp ff any medicatins fr yur child with instructins. All prescriptin drugs must be in riginal labeled cntainers; send nly the exact amunt needed during the stay at camp. At camp yu will be able t talk with the n-site health care prvider. At bus pick-up lcatins yu will be able t drp ff any medicatins and instructins with the Paradise Pint staff member wh will relay all infrmatin t the camp n-site health care prvider. Drpping yur camper ff at camp Please plan t arrive at Paradise Pint between 3:00-4:00 PM n the first day f camp. If yu are early, yu are welcme t wait at the tp f the hill as the entrance gate will be clsed until 2:45 PM. Yu will be greeted by a staff member wh will direct yu t parking and Check-In, which is lcated at the Fte Recreatin Hall. If yu drp yur camper ff at camp, yu will be able t meet their Cunselr. Drpping yur camper ff at any bus lcatin Please plan t arrive at least 15 minutes prir t the departure time. A Paradise Pint staff member will be at each bus pick-up lcatin t greet yu and check-in yur camper. If yur child has any electrnics, (cell phnes, ipds, game systems etc.) please take them with yu as they are nt allwed n camp. Any electrnics left at Camp will be labeled and stred fr the week. Paradise Pint is nt respnsible fr lst r damaged electrnic items while stred at camp. The bus is scheduled t arrive at camp at 4:00 PM. By 4:30 PM all campers are with their cabin grups participating in a camp tur, visiting the health center and waterfrnt, and unpacking in their cabins. While at the Health Center, the n-site health care prvider will talk individually with campers abut their health infrmatin and be given a head-t-te t lk fr lice, any existing cnditins, and g ver medicatins r allergies. At the waterfrnt, campers will have the ptin t participate in the swim test (4 lengths in between the dcks & treading water fr 2 minutes). If campers chse t nt take it r d nt pass, they will nly be able t swim in specific swimming areas r required t wear a lifejacket. These campers are encuraged t try again thrughut the week. After Cunselrs help campers unpack in their cabins, they will discuss cabin grup guidelines which will be hung in their cabin fr the week. DEPARTURE DAY During Check-Out at any lcatin, yu are able t: Sign ut yur camper after shwing yur pht ID: PHOTO ID IS REQUIRED TO CHECK OUT ANY CAMPER Pick-up any medicatins (any medicatins left will be held until Labr Day and then discarded) Picking yur camper up at camp Please plan t be at camp between 10:00-11:00 AM n the last day f camp. If picking yur camper up frm camp, yu have the ptin t make purchases at the Brwn Bear stre. If yur camper is nt picked up befre 12:30 PM yur accunt will be charged a $35 late pick-up fee. Picking yur camper up at any bus lcatin Please be there accrding t the time listed under the Transprtatin sectin. We d ur best t make sure the bus leaves each lcatin n-time. Campers will nly be signed-ut t thse listed n their accunt. Arthur Ave. Pcatell, ID CAMPER EXPECTATIONS All campers at Paradise Pint Camp agree t respect camp staff, their fellw campers, wildlife, and the camp prperty. Fr their wn safety, the safety f thers, and fr the safekeeping f Paradise Pint, campers agree t fllw the Paradise Pint guidelines as presented n the first day f camp. Campers agree t stay in their cabins after lights ut unless their cunselr gives them permissin t leave the cabin. Campers agree t respect ther camper s privacy and nt t take cameras int the bathhuse. Campers will use the buddy system at all times, never ging ff by themselves. BALANCE DUES/REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY Sessin balances are due n r befre the first day f the registered sessin. If there is an utstanding balance, during the check-in prcess f that registered sessin the parent/guardian must either pay in full r set up a payment plan. A $50 cancellatin fee will be charged in additin t the $50 nn-refundable depsit if a registratin is cancelled less than ne week befre the first day f the registered sessin. Due t the challenge f filling spaces, n refunds will be issued n r after the first day f the registered sessin. In cases f hmesickness, dismissal r vluntary withdrawal, n refunds will be issued. All refunds will be prcessed within tw weeks f the last day f the camp sessin. CABIN MATE REQUEST POLICY Parents/guardians have the pprtunity during registratin t list ONE camper they wuld like t have in their child's cabin. These requests must be RECIPROCAL. Our gal fr limiting the amunt f requests is t remve the ptential fr cliques and prvide a diverse cabin grup experience. We will d ur best t accmmdate RECIPROCAL requests; hwever cannt always guarantee it. Campers are placed in cabins by age grups, as well as by cabin mate requests. It is Paradise Pint s plicy that cabins are arranged with n mre than a tw year age difference amng campers (ex. 7-9 year lds can be placed in a cabin tgether, but nt 7-10). LOST & FOUND On a daily basis, lst and fund items will be placed n Trust Rck (the rck in the central gathering area) fr campers t claim. On departure day, we d a lst and fund fashin shw during breakfast t return items fund t campers. Anything nt claimed will be displayed at camp n the Check-Out table during departure day. Pictures f all lst and fund items left at the end f each week will be upladed t the camp sessin pht gallery. Lst and fund items can be picked up at camp, the Dicesan Office in Bise, r be shipped at an additinal charge. All leftver items are dnated at the end f the summer. CHAPEL As an Episcpalian camp, Paradise Pint prmtes Christian values thrughut the camp activities, such as lve, cmpassin, prayer, and frgiveness. The Spiritual Crdinatr hlds mrning and evening Chapel and a ne hur Chaplain Cnnectin time during the week fr every camper. Each summer the curriculum fr Chapels and Chaplain Cnnectin time changes, hwever the structure remains the same. Mrning Chapel intrduces a Christian value with a fun activity t demnstrate it, alng with fun sngs! Then, fr Chaplain Cnnectin time, the campers are divided int smaller grups that can fcus n smething a little mre specific, such as different ways t pray r hw campers can cnnect with Gd. Evening Chapel invlves mre discussin abut the daily Christian value and will ask what the campers saw thrughut the day that wuld demnstrate the daily Christian value. Paradise Pint welcmes campers f all religius beliefs and church backgrunds. OFF-CAMP TRIPS Many camps invlve ff-camp trips; hrseback trail rides, rafting, stand-up paddle barding, Muntain Adventure Camp, r Hrse Camps. Anytime campers leave Paradise Pint prperty, the fllwing rules are in place: There are always, at a minimum, tw staff members respnsible fr the grup f campers. The same camper-t-staff ratis apply ff-camp as n-camp, s the mre campers ging n a trip, the mre staff are sent. Staff that drive campers n these ff-camp trips have special training in rder t drive the 15 passenger vans that are rented specific fr these ff-camp trips. They must have valid driver s licenses and are cvered under the Paradise Pint insurance plicy. All staff are trained in American Red Crss CPR & First Aid and the Lead Staff f each ff-camp trip will carry a cell phne r tw-way radi in case f emergencies. DIETARY NEEDS It is ur desire that all participants be able t experience Paradise Pint withut cncern r anxiety f dietary restrictins. We are able t wrk with a variety f dietary restrictins, including vegetarian, gluten, dairy, egg, and nut allergies. In rder t meet the needs f these participants, it is necessary t btain as much infrmatin as pssible prir t the arrival at camp. During the registratin prcess yu are able t list any special dietary needs. Please be as specific as pssible regarding the exact nature and severity f any allergy r intlerance. Please nte that we will make every effrt t accmmdate special requests. Hwever, due t ur pen kitchen that handles the majr allergens (gluten, wheat, dairy, nuts, etc...) we cannt guarantee that items will be cmpletely "free" f any ingredient. While Paradise Pint attempts t prvide meals which meet these special needs as much as pssible, it is the respnsibility f the individual t avid thse fds that they are unable t eat. In sme cases, we allw the participants t bring sme f their wn fd items, which can then be prepared by ur camp kitchen staff. MEDICAL CARE Each Yuth Camp sessin has an n-site health care prvider n camp prperty fr the week. In case f an emergency, arrangements fr treatment have been made with the St. Luke s McCall Medical Center, which is abut eight miles frm Camp. Shuld any serius accident r illness ccur at camp, Parents/Guardians are ntified immediately. If yu plan t be away fr any length f time during yur child s time at camp please arrange fr a relative r friend t be able t pick-up yur child shuld he r she becme ill and verify that they are listed as an Authrized Pick-up. THINGS TO LEAVE AT HOME Please leave any medicatin (except prescriptin which is administered by the nurse), drugs, alchl, cigarettes, lighters r matches, weapns, ammunitin, r KNIVES at hme. Campers must als nt bring any electrnics t Camp, including radis, Persnal Gaming Devices, ipds, CELL PHONES, r TABLETS. There will be n time thrughut the week fr campers t use their cell phnes r tablets. If a camper brings prhibited items t Camp, it may result in the camper being sent hme. Any prhibited items that are brught t Camp and fund after the Parents/Guardians leave will be stred in the Camp Office. Paradise Pint is nt respnsible fr these stred items if they are lst r damaged. STAYOVER CAMPERS The stay ver ptin is available during registratin and is an additinal $35 fr campers wh wish t attend mre than ne week in back-t-back camps. The weekend ffers a mre relaxed schedule fr campers t recup frm the excitement frm the previus week and regain their energy. Parents/Guardians are welcme t visit their camper n camp r take them int twn fr a treat between 1pm and 4pm n Saturdays. If taking yur camper ff-camp the same rules f departure day apply bring yur ID and yu must be listed n the accunt. BROWN BEAR STORE POLICY Brwn Bear is the camp stre where campers can purchase snacks and drinks. Campers are allwed t purchase ne snack and ne drink item each afternn and will typically spend $2/day. In additin t snacks, Paradise Pint merchandise is available in Brwn Bear and range in price frm $5-$35 (sweatshirts, water bttles, stuffed animals, etc.). Balances f less than $15 at the end f each camp sessin will be dnated t the Camper Schlarship Fund. Balances can be transferred t siblings r family members attending future camp sessins. Parents/guardians have the ptin t dnate balances ver $15 t the Camper Schlarship Fund r have balances refunded via check. All Brwn Bear Refunds & Dnatins will be prcessed within tw weeks f the last day f the camp sessin if it is nt transferred t a future sessin. CAMP PICTURES Each day, we are able t take pictures f activities n camp and we d ur best t get a picture f each camper every day. All phts are upladed t yur nline accunt each evening and are available fr yu t view in the mrning. Camps that take place partially ff-camp (Hrse Camps, Muntain Adventure) will have ff-camp pictures upladed by departure day f that camp. 5 PARENT/GUARDIAN COMMUNICATION WITH CAMPERS AT CAMP One f the greatest things camp fsters is the pprtunity t gain independence and self cnfidence thrugh navigating challenging situatins n their wn and with the help f peers and cunselrs. Calling hme, either while hmesick r just t check-in, desn t allw fr this pprtunity. Often, when a hmesick child speaks t smene frm hme, their hmesickness is nly made wrse. Instead, we encurage letter-writing bth t and frm the family. The general camp practice is t cntact parents when there is cncern abut a camper s health and well-being. All ther camper phne cntact with parents/guardians is allwed nly when apprved by the Camp Directr. All cntact, successful and unsuccessful, is dcumented. Parents/Guardians may ask fr a Camper Check-In by calling the Dicesan Office at and requesting t be transferred t Paradise Pint. If leaving a message, make sure t leave yur name and yur camper s name. All Camper Check-In requests will be returned within 24 hurs. SENDING MAIL TO YOUR CAMPER Campers lve t receive mail and care packages when they are away frm hme. Please make sure t send packages early in the week t make sure yur camper receives them while they are at camp. Packages r letters that arrive after yur camper has departed will be returned t sender. It has been a fun Paradise Pint traditin that if a camper receives three letters r a package they will get t be thrwn in the lake! They als have the ptin t sing with ther campers r have their Cunselr thrwn in the lake instead! Yu can als invite family and friends t send s. Each day befre lunch (at 12pm) we print all s received in the previus 24 hurs and hand ut during lunch with the rest f the mail. Any s sent after 12pm n Friday will nt be received by yur camper. RECEIVING MAIL FROM CAMP Camper letters are taken int the Pst Office in McCall in the mrnings, Mnday thrugh Friday. Each day during Tes Up (rest hur) campers are encuraged t write letters hme t their families. Many times the camper knws the address, but des nt knw hw t prperly address an envelpe. Staff will d their best t catch the mistakes befre the envelpes get in the mail, hwever the best way t ensure that yu receive a letter frm yur camper is t send them t camp prepared with paper and pre-addressed/stamped envelpes. It may be that mail frm yur camper is nt s cheerful. Remember that campers smetimes write hme during hmesick mments, r that the act f writing triggers hmesickness. In mst instances, by the time yu receive the letter, yur camper is well-adjusted t camp and having a wnderful time. 6 CONTACT AFTER CAMP (Campers with Staff and Campers with Campers) Camper safety is Paradise Pint s primary gal and safety after camp is still a pririty. The friendships that frm at Camp between staff members and campers are imprtant and have tremendus value. If cntact with staff members is desired after camp, it is suggested that all cmmunicatin take place thrugh fficial Paradise Pint scial media sites (this includes, but is nt limited t, Facebk, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter)r by mail/ thrugh the Camp Office. Paradise Pint advises staff n apprpriate cmmunicatin and healthy bundaries with campers, which includes all s and letters being addressed t the camper s parents r guardians, r phne calls with the parent r guardian present. Online cmmunicatin n persnal accunts between staff members and campers is nt mnitred r managed by Paradise Pint and Paradise Pint is nt respnsible fr the cntent n the staff member s accunts. The expectatin is that all parties (parents, campers, and staff) use respect and cmmn sense in scial media cmmunicatin r cntact utside f Camp. During the registratin prcess parents and guardians can select t share their cntact infrmatin (address, phne number, and ) if requested by anther camper. Parents r Guardians can cntact the Camp Registrar at the Dicesan Office t receive apprved cntact infrmatin. Paradise Pint will never share any infrmatin with an utside party. HOMESICKNESS Ging away t camp fr a week r mre can be a challenging experience fr many children. Shrt-term separatin frm parents and learning independence are bth imprtant parts f grwing up even thugh it may nt always be easy. Sme children find it difficult t cpe with the changes that cme with spending a week away frm hme. This anxiety is perfectly nrmal and happens n ccasin. We spend a lt f time training camp staff n hw t deal with hmesickness, but parents can help prevent hmesickness by ding sme simple things prir t their camper s stay at camp. Avid statements such as, If yu dn t like camp, yu can cme hme. Children wh are experiencing difficulties will clse their minds t adapting t camp, and fcus immediately n ging hme. Prcess any recent stressful events: Recent deaths f peple clse t campers r parents wh are divrcing can cause extreme stress n a child at camp. Talk t them abut it and ntify the camp t make the staff aware. Keep letters shrt and psitive: Parents shuld avid statements abut missing them terribly, hw much yu wish they were hme, r abut the death f their favrite pet. Talk abut hmesickness: Hmesickness is natural and certain feelings f missing hme, parents, pets, r friends are nrmal. Once this is understd, yur child may accept hmesick feelings with less anxiety. Develping realistic expectatins abut camp is very imprtant. Parents can smetimes ver-glamrize the camp experience. G ahead and talk abut the fun they ll have, but als discuss rainy days; abut liking sme peple mre than thers; abut making chices at camp. By ding this yu help yur camper understand their feelings, s they are better able t recgnize and cpe with them. Many campers fare better at Camp if they are able t see where they will be staying ahead f time.
