Many peple dn t knw this, but I gt my start in camping as a Day Camp Cunsellr fr a lcal summer camp in Lndn, Ontari. I went n t win Cunsellr f the Week a few times and finally became the Directr when I was 22. I have a special place in my heart fr the magic f intrducing ur yungest campers t a truly authentic summer camp prgram. YLCC is an award winning summer leadership develpment prgram. Last year she spent the summer learning and grwing with the Day Camp prgram, and she is very excited t help the prgram flurish even further. When Tasmine is nt at camp, she is attending McMaster University fr Psychlgy, Neurscience and Behaviur. Her studies have taught her the imprtance f a psitive envirnment and mind in rder t achieve success. Traditinally we hire ur staff frm within ur prgrams; they knw ur philsphy best and can pass it n t ur campers. YLCC is very careful abut screening all emplyees. The majrity f ur staff are pst-secndary students and grads; many f which have their backgrunds based in utdr recreatin and educatin and are leaders in their wn schls and cmmunities. All staff are certified in SFA (Standard First Aid) and CPR, they als underg a criminal reference check befre they are hired.

5 getting ready Authrizatin fr travel with Friends Written authrizatin is required frm parents wh are arranging fr their camper t travel with anther family. Please send details t ur ffice. Medicatin All daily medicatin, excluding epi-pens and asthma puffers, must be handed in t yur camper s cunsellr each mrning alng with written instructins. Liquid medicatin must be in it s riginal prescriptin bttle. Over-the-cunter medicatin must arrive in a clear ziplck bag labelled with the camper s name. N medicatin will be given t yur child withut yur permissin. Epi-pens and puffers shuld be secured in a fanny pack fr yur child t carry during the day. HeAltHy & SAFe CAMperS Healthy Campers Camp is a place with clse cntact and busy schedules. In the event that yur child cntracts a cmmunicable illness r ther cnditin befre camp, please cntact the Camp Office. Campers with cmmunicable illnesses may be asked t delay their arrival at camp. Head lice YLCC has a nit-free plicy. We ask parents t check their camper persnally r have them visit their family dctr prir t arrival. The Ontari Camps Assciatin (OCA) requires that residential camps check fr lice. If yur camper has head lice upn arrival at camp, they will need t return hme and are welcme t cme back when they and their belngings are nit-free. If a camper is sent hme, a credit fr a sessin f equal value can be issued fr later in the camp seasn r fr the fllwing summer. Camp Behaviur Each camper must have a desire t be a part f the YLCC Family. At Yuth Leadership Camps Canada, we strive t teach each camper valuable skills and leadership qualities. One f them is respect: respect fr the camp, nature, yurself, and thers. Please cme t camp with an pen mind and a willingness t learn. It will truly enhance yur verall camp experience. While camp ffers pprtunities fr clse friendships and new grup skills, yung peple can react t these changes in many different ways. At YLCC, it is ur gal t prvide a safe, cmfrtable and supprtive envirnment. There will be zer tlerance fr bullying f any kind. Please discuss apprpriate behaviur expectatins with yur child prir t arrival. Our staff are trained and experienced in prviding high quality care fr ur campers and ensuring that the needs f each individual are met. If a situatin arises where a camper threatens the safety r security f anther camper, r themselves, we will make every apprpriate effrt t infrm the parent invlved, crrect the behaviur and prvide a psitive camp experience fr everyne. Hwever, shuld disruptive behaviur cntinue, the child may be dismissed frm camp at the discretin f the Camp Directr. The camp will nt prvide a refund r be held respnsible fr any csts assciated with a camper s dismissal. theft We have a zer tlerance plicy fr theft. If any camper is caught stealing r suspected f theft f any item frm camp r a fellw camper, they will be sent hme at their wn expense. We reserve the right t search any camper s bag with their permissin.

6 getting ready packing recommendations label everything At the end f summer, there is always a pile f campers belngings left behind. This is an expensive waste fr ur campers (and their parents!) As a way t target the prblem f lst belngings and a large lst and fund clset, we are encuraging ur campers t label all belngings. We have partnered with Mabel s Labels, a cmpany with all types f labels that are clurful, indestructable and fun! With a special Camp Pack available and als a larger Big Cmb, yur camper can label abslutely everything! G t and then place yur rder! We lk frward t sending campers hme with ALL their belngings this summer. lunch Bag We dn t have facilities t keep lunches and drinks cld. If pssible, pack yur camper s lunch in an insulated cler bag with an ice pack. Yur camper will appreciate it if yu freeze ne drink bx it will be cld and refreshing in the afternn. We have a very active schedule and we want ur campers t be prperly fueled please pack mre fd alng with snacks and drinks than in an average schl-day lunch. Sunscreen/Bug ltin Please apply and pack yur wn sunscreen and bug spray; YLCC has limited supplies in case yu frget. If yur child has allergies t specific prducts, please infrm the Day Camp Directr upn arrival n the first day. Ftwear/Swimwear A day at YLCC is active and we want yur camper t be safe and cmfrtable. We recmmend gd quality running shes every day. Sandals with back straps are acceptable but running shes are necessary fr the rpes curse. Our lakeshre is sft and sandy but pack water shes if yur camper wuld prefer t wear these in the lake. If yur child requires ear plugs and/r gggles fr swimming, please labels these items and include these with yur child s twel. lifejacket - persnal Fltatin Device (pfd) It is mandatry that all campers wear a lifejacket during all watercraft activities. Please send yur camper with a gvernment-apprved PFD that fits prperly. Please label the lifejacket clearly. If yu are unable t prvide a lifejacket fr yur camper, we have a limited number f rentals fr $20.00 per sessin. lst and Fund Be sure t visit the lst and fund when picking up yur camper. All clthing and equipment remaining at camp will be available fr pickup at ur Orillia camp ffice frm September until Octber 24, After this date, remaining items will be dnated at ur Fall Fest. If yu live utside f Orillia, please call in September t inquire abut lst items. These items can be frwarded COD r can be arranged t be picked up.

Increasingly, hwever, many f the manufacturers and purveyrs f ur finished prducts and raw ingredients are chsing t label their prducts as pssibly cntaining: nuts, seeds, trpical seed/ils, peanuts, tree-nuts, etc. Their cncern is due t the pssible expsure f their prduct t nuts - bth frm within their wn prductin facility as well as in the packaging, packing, handling, transprtatin, warehusing, delivery and strage f their prduct. Currently we are finding it very difficult t surce items frm ur suppliers which are guaranteed t nt cntain nuts. We nw refer t urselves as a Nut Aware facility and, fr the time being, we must cntinue t use the same ingredient items with which we have been previusly satisfied with. These items will cntinue t nt include nuts (whle r in part) r nut extracts r ils as an ingredient, but nw may be packaged with a may cntain nuts r nut ils label. We intend t surce new prducts that present the minimal pssible risk t thse with nut allergies until such a time that we can nce again guarantee that all prducts and ingredients used in ur fd service peratins can be deemed Nut Free.

9 cming t camp Arrival and Departure Each site has a designated registratin area (lk fr the range pylns) where parents sign their children in and ut each day. On Mnday, parents will receive a newsletter utlining the week s special themes. Camp Prgrams will begin prmptly at 9:00 am and all staff and campers will leave the area fr their activities. Day Camp Staff will be arund at pick-up t answer any questins yu might have. Arrival frm 8:30am Please d nt arrive earlier than 8:30 am - there is n supervisin available prir t that time. We ask that all campers eat a gd breakfast prir t arrival. Departure: 5:00pm Day campers are available fr pick up at 5:00 pm and must be picked up by 5:30 pm each day. A fee may be levied fr any pick ups after 5:30pm. Repeat late pick ups will result in additinal charges. early pick-ups Please let us knw in advance s that we can have yur child ready at the sign-in/ut area. If there are circumstances r plans that change while yur child is at camp, please cntact us yu ll find the Main Office and Emergency phne numbers at the frnt and back f this dcument. Day and residential Campers nsite We ask that parents wh have residential campers n site, nt disrupt their mrning prgramming. If yu wuld like t leave smething fr yur residential camper, please d this with the Day Camp Directr. Cming ready We ask that campers arrive each day fully sunscreened and has a full water bttle. Dn t frget t pack underwear fr changing int dry clthes. Please have lunches and water bttles ut and ready t be handed int their cunsellrs. Being in the Same grup YLCC places children in age apprpriate grups s that all campers will have the best quality camp experience. We d ur very best t grup same-age friends tgether in the same grup, if requested. We ask that when yu are making a friend request t try and make like-age requests. Our plicy is t place the yungest child f a friend request in the apprpriate grade categry and any lder friends int this same grup. If yu have tw campers, nt similar in age, knw that the lder child will be ging t a lwer age grup t accmmdate yur request. Cming fr a Secnd Sessin We lve it when ur campers want t cme back it means we ve dne a gd jb. Our day camp is very ppular and fills quickly s if yu wish yur child t cme back fr anther sessin, please cntact ur ffice as sn as pssible!

10 at camp Hmesickness Camp is an exciting and fun-filled place with new friends and new experiences. When campers are away frm hme, it is reasnable t expect that until they becme adjusted t the camp envirnment, they may g thrugh a perid f hmesickness. It is imprtant that parents realize, hwever, that this is smething that a child may need t experience and see thrugh in rder t reach a higher degree f independence. Our Cunsellrs receive training n hw t help children feel cmfrtable at camp and hw t respnd t their individual needs. Campers are nt typically permitted t call hme as we have fund this usually increases the level f hmesickness. If there is a situatin at camp that requires a phne call, we will cntact yu immediately. Please refrain frm telling yur child they can call hme r g hme part way if they wish. Calls Because it is necessary t keep ur phne lines clear fr emergency and ffice use, campers are discuraged frm calling hme. Hwever, if ur staff feels it is in the best interest f a camper, a call can be arranged. Any utging calls made are dne under the supervisin f ur Camp Directr r Assistant Directrs. Cell phnes are nt permitted at YLCC. visits Due t safety cncerns, YLCC allws n visitrs unless apprved in advance by ur Directrs. Parents are strngly encuraged t attend the Graduatin Ceremny at the clse f their camper s sessin. All visitrs must check in at the Camp Office t receive a visitr s badge. Day Camp tuck Shp The day camp tuck shp will be separate frm the residential camp tuck shp. We will ffer a healthier and mre petite selectin f snacks best suited t day campers. A sample menu will be available fr yu t peruse at Mnday registratin. We allw a maximum f ne treat per day per camper, if yu wish fr yur child t take part. If yu wish yur child t have extra snacks, please pack them in their lunch bags. If yu r yur camper want camp suveniers, these will be available fr purchase at pick up time. We accept cash, debit r credit card... even Canadian Tire Mney! Medical Care Our entire staff is First-Aid and CPR certified and YLCC has an n-site nurse available 24/7. YLCC als has an n-call Camp Dctr. Off Site Medical Attentin In the event that yur child needs medical attentin, apart frm injuries f a minr nature, ur staff will prvide immediate transprtatin t the Sldiers Memrial Hspital, Orillia. An ambulance will be called in fr critical emergency situatins. We will make every effrt t cntact yu as sn as pssible shuld medical treatment be necessary, and will stay with yur camper until the situatin is reslved. If any prescriptin drugs are necessary as a result f cnsultatin with the dctr, and we d nt nrmally stck them, yu will be cntacted and billed fr the amunt after camp.
