Over 2,000 artists, educators, students and others interested and involved in the production, technology and aesthetics of contemporary studio glass are members of the organization. Founded in 1971 by artists as a means to exchange information about new technologies available for individuals working in glass, each year GAS holds an annual conference, publishes a Journal documenting the conference, publishes six issues of GAS News and maintains an active Web site. The Glass Art Society is recognized as a 501(c)3 by the Internal Revenue Service. Additionally for the 2011 Seattle conference, the conference appears on the GAS Web site will distribute an newsletter, and have enlisted a professional media relations firm to seek local, regional and national media for the event. First Thursday concurrent with the Opening Day of the Glass Art Society's 41st Annual Conference coincides with Seattle s First Thursday Art Walk, with over 40 glass-related exhibitions in various galleries, museums, businesses, and public spaces throughout the region. 4 Organization overview a) Overview: Each year, GAS holds a conference and publishes a Journal documenting the conference, six issues of GAS News, a Membership/Education Roster, and a Resource Guide. GAS also has an active Web site, and assists the public with information about glass art. b) Previous activities: The annual GAS Journal documents the presentations and proceedings of the conference. Collected by libraries and schools internationally, it has become a record showing the evolution of the contemporary glass movement. Six issues of GAS News are published every year. An Annual Membership & Education Roster provides members' contact information to communicate directly as well as information on glass education programs worldwide. The annual Resource Guide consolidates advertisements of glass-related tools, products and services, and will be published online, rather than printed, starting in An active Web site with numerous links receives from 14,000 to 22,000 hits per month. Approximately 1,000 requests for information or referral pass through the GAS office each year. Nearly 1,000 attended the conference in Adelaide, Australia in 2005 and 1,250 in St. Louis in ,253 attended in Pittsburgh in 2007, 1,823 in Portland in 2008, 1,410 in Corning in 2009 and 854 in Louisville, We estimate that 2,000 plus will attend the conference In Seattle in 2011 since Seattle is arguably one of the epicenters of glass art in the United States. c) Audience: GAS currently has over 2000 members from the US and 52 foreign countries. d) Special efforts: Annual scholarships support student attendance at the annual conference, as do ample opportunities for work exchange. e) Target Population: Artists, educators, students, curators, collectors, gallery owners, manufacturers, suppliers, and members of the public with interest in art made with glass are all expected to attend. f) Promotion and Publicity: For the first time ever, a professional public relations agency is tasked with garnering attention for this event. Traditional as well as social media avenues for exposure are being used. GAS published and mailed 20,000 pre-conference brochures In November These were also distributed at SOFA Chicago at Navy Pier in November Press attention for the 2011 event will begin in January 2011 with a press conference. Radio and TV PSAs will air in the spring of The GAS website will also publicize the event, and GAS will work with fellow organizations to promote the conference on their sites, and/or arrange trade of mail lists. 19 Terms & Conditions To apply for a sponsorship package, please complete and return the sponsorship application form. You will receive a donation receipt and a 50% deposit will be required to secure your package. The balance is payable by April 1, Payment in full can be made with the registration form. In the event you cancel your package, the organizer reserves the right to retain deposit monies received unless that particular package is resold. No refunds for cancellations will be made after April 1, Attendance: The organizers make no guarantee as to the number of delegates and/or visitors that may attend the conference. Unavoidable Occurrences: In the event that the conference is cancelled or delayed through no fault of the organizer, or the venue, because of such occurrences including, but not limited to, fire, flood, labor disputes, natural disasters, acts of God, civil disorders, riots, insurrections, work stoppages, slow downs or disputes, or other similar events then the exhibitor/sponsor shall not be entitled to any refund or claim for any loss or damage.
