2 Welcome to the 2015 Fall Camporee Welcome to North Valley s Fall Camporee Please carefully read the important information contained within this Participation Guide, it will assist you in your planning a successful weekend with your Scouts. Be sure your Scouts are well prepared, well equipped and ready for a great time. Units are encouraged to camp at Settlers Camp for the entire weekend. 4 Program Operations General Information Parental Consent Forms: Troops must possess a parental permission form for each Scout attending the Camporee. This form must be signed by a parent or guardian and may be combined with the Medial Consent Form. Senior Patrol Leaders must present these forms at the time of check-in. Lack of Parental Consent Forms will result in deduction of 10 points at Check-in. Uniforms: Uniforms are an important part of Scouting and the Camporee. Class A uniform (pants or shorts, shirt, belt, socks and neckerchief/bolo) will be required for Campfire activities. Friday night and Saturday activities will be in Class B uniform (troop shirt, pants or shorts consisting of the same type and color). Headgear is optional, but if one Scout in the troop wears a particular hat, every other Scout must wear the same kind. Remember to wear the uniform properly and wear it proudly! Campsites: Campsites will be assigned on a first come, first served basis, but the size of the unit will also be taken into consideration. Before leaving the campsite Sunday morning every unit must completely police their area. All trash must be picked up and packed out nothing should be left behind. Troops must checkout with host Troop before leaving their campsites. Troops should strive to leave their Campsite better than they found it. Camporee patches will be handed out at check in. First AID: Each unit should have their own first aid kit, and be prepared to treat minor injuries. There will be qualified medical personnel at the Camporee to treat any medical emergencies. Additional information will be given at the Cracker Barrel. Water: Water is available throughout the grounds. Saturday night Campfire: All Troops are encouraged to perform a skit or a song for the Saturday night campfire. All skits or songs should be appropriate for our event. Please provide the name of your song/skit by lunch time on Saturday. Camping Units will provide their own tents and camping equipment All food water and for the weekend is the responsibility of your Troop/Crew There should be at least two adults in each campsite at night No unattended fires Vehicles must be parked in designated areas 7/28/2015 1:21:39 PM 4

5 Patrol Rules Patrols must contain a minimum of 4, and a maximum of 8 Patrols who switch members during the competition will be disqualified Scout handbooks may be used during the competition Adult Responsibilities Adult Leaders are responsible for their Scouts Adult Leader required to oversee each Patrol for Friday night events Adult leaders are to sign-in upon arrival at the beginning of the event and sign-out upon departure at the end of the event On-site contact information must be provided for at least two (2) adult leaders that will be on-site Patrols must bring: Tinder, kindling and fuel for one fire per patrol Flashlight Pen/Pencil and Paper First Aid Kit Matches Compass Scout Handbook Great Leadership Great Teamwork Great Attitudes Ready for Fun Event Stations and Scoring Station Points Location Troop Friday Evening 1. Scavenger Hunt 100 points 79 DON T FORGET TO INVITE FRIENDS OF SCOUTS AND LEADERS Stations 1-7 will be completed on Friday evening Stations 8-13 will be completed on Saturday Station #1 Roper Obstacle Troop xx This activity will be held at: Archery Range Blind folded patrol (provided by station) PL navigates the patrol through the obstacle. Station has a set up an obstacle of no less than 50 yards following a rope. Patrols navigate either in the darkness (no flashlight ) or blindfolded. 20 minutes is allowed for this event but it is not timed Teamwork and Leadership Station #2 Stretcher Carry Troop xx This activity will be held at: Rifle Range Stretcher Carry, make the stretcher, break down and repeat. Patrol makes a stretcher according to BSA handbook Carry patrol member from point A to point B. Make another stretcher and return carrying different patrol member. 7 Station #3 Tent Setup Troop xx This activity will be held at: Hawkeye Field Patrols set up identical tent completely including the drop cloth, and rain fly. No stakes. Teamwork and Leadership Station #4 Tom-a-hawk Toss Troop 79 This activity will be held at: Hawkeye Pavilion Glow in the dark Tomahawks and Targets. Teamwork and Leadership Station #5 Nocturnal Species Troop 79 This activity will be held at: Athletics Field Pavilion Paper and Pencil/Pen Species of the Night, Answer basic scout knowledge questions about nocturnal species, and scouts who seem to be nocturnal; (safety). 8 Station #6 Fire Building Troop xx This activity will be held at: Campfire Circle Tinder and Kindling Build a fire, pop the popcorn Teamwork and Leadership Station #7 Frisbee Toss Troop 79 This activity will be held at: Rifle Range Longest throw: simply each Scout throws Frisbee down the field and divides by how many contestants to get an average. To make it so the Scout isn't just winging the Frisbee down the field we set-up side limits like 20 yard bearth. If the Frisbee lands 50 yards away but 20 yards outside the bearth that may = 50 yards for distance for penalized 20 yards for accuracy. Accuracy: Scouts throw at a night glow ground target 3 circular differing sized targets. Team Throw: Patrols (4 scouts) thrower and catcher Teamwork and Leadership Station #8 Log Rolling Troop xx This activity will be held at: SW End of Lake Minsi Log Drag or Carry; with timber hitch Patrols transport log, knot must be accurate. Patrols will be timed for cutting the log Teamwork and Leadership Station #10 First Aid Troop xx This activity will be held at: Handi-Craft EDGE, Use the Edge Method to show F-Aid Skills; basis First Class 8A, B C, D. Teamwork and Leadership Station #11 Relay Troop xx This activity will be held at: Shot Gun Range Progress based on Scout Knowledge., (set up to progress 4 patrols) Setup a relay based on scout book skills and questions. 10 Station #12 Hammer and Nail Troop xx This activity will be held at: Scout Craft Hammers - 4 all the same. Nails 10D or 12D at least a 1lb or 5lb of each. 2x or even 4x, Blind folds. Teamwork and Leadership Station #13 Scavenger Hunt/Scout Knowledge Troop 79 This activity will be held at: All Stations Each station will have 1 envelope for each Patrol. 11 Each Patrol that is able to donate to this organization will receive an extra bonus score at the Nocturnal Species station. Here at Pocono Wildlife, we need lots of things to help the 1,200 or so animals we care for get back to the wild healthy and WILD! Some are small, common items, and many are larger, specialized things. The following is a list of some of each that we need. YOU can help US care for the wildlife that belongs to all of us. Liquid Laundry Detergent Tissues Tall kitchen drawstring garbage bags Cheerios (any brand) Fresh and frozen fruit Clumping cat litter Gift cards for gasoline, groceries, and home centers Large bags of pine bedding (tractor supply, Canfields) Cracked corn, game bird starter, duck chow (also Canfields) Scotchbrite scrubby sponges Chlorox Greenworks all purpose cleaner We have a wish list of office and clinic supplies at : Finally one of the largest needs we have each year is formula. The baby mammals we care for include fawns, bear cubs, rabbits, raccoons, opossums, foxes and squirrels. Each of those creatures requires a special formula! A company called Chris s Squirrels and More at supplies/milk-replacers-and-specialty-diets-1/fox-valley-nutrition/fox-valley html.html sells what we need and is willing to help you buy formula as a gift for Pocono Wildlife! The formulas we need most are 32/40 (for bunnies and squirrels), 33/30 (for fawns), and 30/50(for bear cubs). We go through a dozen 20 lb tubs each year!! 12 TROOP S MORES COOKING COMPETITION This activity will be held at: Prepared at campsites and delivered to Memorial Lodge by 11:30 AM on Saturday, September 20, 2015 Your Imagination!. Be creative! Judging competition will be limited to one S more per Troop. The finished, fully prepared (and transported) entry is to be brought to the Dining Hall between 11:00 11:30 am on Saturday. The competition judging will be conducted at 11:30 am. It is the responsibility of the individual patrol leaders to plan their tasks and cooking accordingly so that that their entry is ready and delivered by 11:30 am. Recipes with ingredients must be provided with entry. (for allergy reasons) JUDGING: A team of Expert Judges will be established. Each Judge has one vote.
