Activities geared towards Rank and CAMP RULES Listed below are the major rules in camp. A good camper always maintains high standards of personal conduct, safety, courtesy, and conservation. Therefore, our campers observe the following minimum camping standards: Personal Conduct: Be a good neighbor. Do not create a disturbance or cause other campers to have a bad camping experience. Respect the private property of the neighbors surrounding the camp. Respect the Ranger s home and maintenance area. Enter the area only on official business. Take good care of camp facilities and equipment. Units or individual campers will be charged for defaced property and loss or damage to equipment. NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES MAY BE BROUGHT INTO CAMP. Smoking at camp is strongly discouraged. If an adult needs to smoke, it MUST take place in the parking lot, NOT around your campsite. Registrations are due September 28th! Fees includes: Participation, Patch, Insurance, and Program Materials
2 DETAILS ON THE CAMPOUT Fees: The fee for the 2013 Cub Scout Campout is $7.00 per scout and $3.00 per adult & siblings. Please mail checks payable to: Muskingum Valley Council, B.S.A. Cub Scout Campout 734 Moorehead Avenue Zanesville, Ohio Camp is at: County Road 271 Coshocton, Ohio Please ensure that all fees are submitted to the Council Office by September 28th. This will allow us to accurately provide all the needed materials for each boy. There will be a $5 late fee per boy for payments received after Sep. 28th. There is no late fee for adults & siblings. Registration: On arrival, please park and check in at the welcome center to register with staff. You will be provided with luggage tags with Pack # s and campsite location. Please place luggage tags on your items that need hauled back to campsites. You will be hiking back to those sites. If you are or have a disabled person coming to this event and need assistance of getting around. Please call camp directors or District Executive. Please make arrangements if bringing a pack trailer. Camp Staff will be the only vehicles allowed back to camp sites. Don t Forget to bring to Registration: Title of your song or skit for the campfire (if participating). Any unpaid fees. Collect in advance and pay all at once. Health Forms. Patches: Patches will be distributed upon completion of the evaluation form. Patches will be available at the trading post during dinner for those units not staying for the evening. Units staying for the evening will be able to pick up their patches after the closing. Directions: S.R. 16 West from Coshocton to S.R. 83 South turn right on C.R. 271 follow to MVSR on right side of road. Address is County Road 271 Coshocton, Ohio Map to Muskingum Valley Scout Reservation Meals: Each Pack will be required to prepare the meals for each Cub & Parent that attends. If your pack needs assistance with menu planning or equipment please contact your unit commissioner or local troop, or attend the September roundtable for further resources. Please be prepared we do have smart critters an MVSR. No food in tents and secure your food properly. Camping: Packs must follow either Family Camping Policies (if siblings are attending), Pack Camping Policies (if siblings are not camping) and Webelos Den Camping Policies if this Den is camping separate from the Pack. Adults: All dens must follow 2 deep leadership except for Tiger Cubs. Tigers will be required to have a 1 to 1 ratio, boy to adult. Siblings: All Siblings MUST be accompanied by a legal guardian during the entire campout. Siblings can walk with their respected adult/scout but are restricted to certain activities (No Crafts are available for Siblings, and Siblings cannot participate in Webelos Woods Activities). First Aid: Packs should bring their own first aid kits to handle minor first aid needs. There will be a Health Officer for more advanced injuries. Health Forms: A copy of a current BSA Medical Form, Parts A&B MUST be submitted at the event check-in for EVERY PERSON ATTENDING. NO EXCEPTIONS. Evening Event: Each pack is requested to come prepared to perform a skit at the campfire. Pack Equipment: Dining Fly, Canopy, Hammers, Stakes, Ropes, Tents, Food, Cooking Equipment, Cleaning Equipment, Trash Bags, Drinking Water, Snacks, Fire Wood, Matches, Fire Starters (Do not start a fire with liquid fuel, or any other combustibles) and Extra s of everything. Program: Your Pack will be divided by program groups during part of the day. Please make sure all parents are informed of Scouting s Buddy system and two-deep leadership policy. TIGER/WOLF/BEAR Den Activities will take place in the North Camp area WEBELOS WOODS Activities will take place in the South Camp area TRAINING OWL, BALOO, and Cub Scout Leader Specifics will take place at different times throughout the weekend see event schedule.
3 This is a rain or shine event. Each Cub Scout must come prepared for the weather. The list below is recommended for each cub and his parent. Please use this as a check list to help you prepare for the event. Only Cub Scouts who carry a whittling chip card are authorized to carry a pocket knife. These Cub Scouts should remember and practice the knife safety rules. Any rules violations will result in whittling chip corners being cut or chits being removed and knives removed from the Cub Scouts possession. Each pack will be required to prepare their own meals. A campfire will be provided on the evening of the 13th at the Council Ring. Individual packs are permitted to have their own campfire, for cooking or heat, within a camp fire ring. Firewood will be in campsites & fire fighting tools are next to the Kybo s. Use of Coleman type lanterns and stoves are permitted but must be lit, operated and extinguished by an adult leader. At no time will Coleman type lanterns, or any type of open flames be permitted in, or near tents, and must be supervised. Restrooms and showers are available within walking distance The trading post will be open during lunch (noon to 2 pm) and from 5 pm to 8 pm. ITEMS to Bring Tent/Ground Cover Sleeping Bag/Bed Roll Hat Sweatshirt Warm Jacket/ Rain Coat Soap Toothbrush/Toothpaste Washcloth/Towel Spending Money Trash Bag Uniform (wear it to camp) Bug Repellant Flashlight with extra batteries Water Proof/Warm Boots Change of socks, underwear, long pants and shirt Water Bottles Mess Kit Sleeping Pad Pillow Watch DO NOT BRING Game Boy s/ Electronic Games/ Radio s CAMP RULES Listed below are the major rules in camp. The Buddy System is required at all times. NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES MAY BE BROUGHT INTO CAMP. Smoking at camp is strongly discouraged. If an adult needs to smoke, it MUST take place in the parking lot, NOT around your campsite. ALL fires MUST be attended at ALL times. There is NO Swimming or Boating permitted in the Lake. Be a good neighbor. Do not create a disturbance or cause other campers to have a bad camping experience. Respect the private property of the neighbors surrounding the camp. 4 CAMP RULES (CONTINUED) For Conservation: Vehicles are restricted to authorized parking areas and roads. NEVER LEAVE A FIRE UNATTENDED!!! Put fires out with water before leaving the area. No standing trees may be cut without permission of the Camp Ranger. Leave the campsite clean. Police the ground for any trash. There might be a cleanest campsite award! LEAVE NO TRACE For Safety: Always hike with a buddy or buddies. Get the leader s permission for the hike. Cub Scouts should not be permitted to hike alone. DO NOT USE LIQUID FUEL TO START FIRES (gas, kerosene, charcoal lighter fluid or road flares). Gas lanterns may be used under adult supervision; gas must be locked in storage under adult control. Never play games with a knife. Drink from an approved water supply; do not drink from springs as they may be contaminated. Keep the toilets and showers clean. Place garbage in garbage cans or bags (do not bury garbage). HEALTH CARE: All treatment other than minor first aid will be administered by the Health Officer. All medications MUST be kept and administered by the parent or leader. PARKING: ALL vehicles driven to camp are to be parked in the designated area. Only vehicles authorized by the Event Chairman will be allowed beyond the gate. LEAVING CAMP: Staff, Scouts, or Leaders leaving camp MUST check-out at the Welcome Center. SHOWER FACILITIES: Shower facilities are available in north camp, across from Zane campsite. Please help to keep these areas clean. EMERGENCY GENERAL PROCEDURES When the alarm sounds, all staff is to report to the camp office, all pack members (scouts and leaders) are to report to their campsites. Staff will be sent to each campsite to give the pack leader instructions and information. While waiting for staff, leaders are to take attendance and account for each scout in their pack. NO scout or leader is to leave the campsite until instructed by a staff member. FIRE EMERGENCY PLAN All fires are to be reported to Welcome Center where the alarm will be sounded. Pack and staff are to follow the general procedures for emergencies (see above). Staff will take charge: runners will be sent to sites with instructions for packs; staff to fire site; outside help will be contacted. With a fire in a campsite, use the following instructions: Use campsite fire equipment A burning tent needs to be dropped Send runner to Welcome Center to report fire Fires discovered in other areas of camp need to be reported immediately to Welcome Center. You should tell location, time, and situation. SEVERE WEATHER In the event of a severe weather, a general alarm will sound. Follow this general procedure See Above. Storm shelters are: the dining halls for severe thunderstorms, and for a tornado go to a ditch or a low-lying area. OTHER WEATHER CONDITIONS Announcements of impending weather such as heat, humidity, storms, etc. will be made when possible. If not, the P.A. system will be used or staff runners will be sent to leaders with instructions.
5 2013 CUB SCOUT FALL CAMPOUT & WEBELOS WOODS REGISTRATION FORM A Registration Form is to be completed by ALL participants (scouts, siblings and adults). ALL participants (scouts, siblings and adults) must have a current BSA Medical Form (Parts A&B) Fee: $7.00 per scout and $3.00 per adult & sibling. Fees are due when the registration forms are submitted. This registration form must be postmarked by September28th. There will be a $5 late fee for scouts after the 28th. There will be no late fee for adults or siblings.
