2 August 10, 2014 Dear Scoutmaster / Crew Advisor: The 2014 Twin Lakes District Fall Camporee will be one of the most fun and exciting events this Scouting year. Mark your calendars now and plan to participate in this great fall event. The Camporee will be held at Camp Twin Lakes September 26 28, The cost will be $8.00 per person. The theme for this event is based on the (fictional) Zombie Apocalypse and the skills we will need to survive it. The activities planned for Saturday are based on scouting skills and imaginative activities that might come in handy in case of an actual Zombie attack. In addition to Scout skills used in their campsites, Scouts will develop an interest in playful imagination, and fun outdoor activities. To make this event a success the Twin Lakes District needs your Troop's/Crew s participation. Thank you for considering the 2014 fall camporee. We look forward to seeing you there! 3 Pre-Camporee Requirements (suggestions) Troops/Crews may pre-build zombie proof gateways for their campsites, or build one at camp from available materials (bonus points possible). Judging will take place during/after the activities on Saturday. Each Troop/Crew will need to bring their best zombie(s) (scout in costume) for judging at the closing campfire. Judging will be by overall vote from all scouts participating in camporee. A timed fire building contest will be taking place. The materials may be provided at the activity or materials may be brought by the troop. This will have to be approved by the person(s) running the activity. More information will be forth coming on this event. World War Z will be a giant water balloon fight. Sides will be chosen randomly (scouts in same troop/crew can/will be on different sides). Water balloons will be provided (red/green food coloring, hence the t-shirts and shorts/pants that can be stained) Troops/Crews are asked to have an appropriate skit/song for the closing campfire. Bring two just in case of doubles! Other information may be forth coming

4 GENERAL INFORMATION TYPE OF CAMPOREE DESCRIPTION MATERIALS The Camporee will feature opportunities to have fun learning about survival skills. Troops/Crews will be competing/participating in different events throughout the camp property dealing with survival/fun. Troops/Crews gear for weekend camping and Scouts/Venturers personal gear. We also request that every scout brings a plain white t-shirt and pants/shorts that can get stained. TOOLS SCORING CHECK-IN PARKING CAMPSITES FIRES FIREWOOD FOOD WATER Scouts/troop/crews are not required to bring any special gear for this camporee Some activities will have a scoring system based on time, points or judging by activity presenter(s).. There will be individual awards as well as a few team/troop awards. Awards will be based upon these systems with all troops receiving a participation award. Any time after 6:00 p.m. on Friday September 26th. It is suggested that you arrive as soon as possible and check-in before dark. Park all motorized vehicles in the parking lot ONLY. All vehicles should be unloaded and then moved to the parking lot. Parking lot is located at the top of the hill before getting to Nelson Lodge. If any vehicles are found by campsites after Friday evening without permission, the troop will lose points in the troop competitions. If you would like to reserve your campsite ahead of the camporee Dave Becker at cantankerousbear@live.com. All sites not reserved will be assigned on a first come basis. Please contact Camporee staff at the registration building before setting up your camp. ALL fires must be built in the established fire rings. Firewood is available. All units will be responsible for their own food for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner for the weekend, food will NOT be provided for lunch. Water is available at the campsites and program areas.

5 GARBAGE DISPOSAL LATRINES FIRST AID CAMPFIRE TABLES CRACKER BARREL UNIFORMS HEADQUARTERS FEES CHURCH SERVICE PATCHES TO CAMP OR NOT Each troop should bring plastic trash bags. At the end of the camporee, the garbage will be taken home with you. Toilets are available around the camp and the camporee area. Each troop should bring a roll of toilet paper (just in case). Each Troop is to have a first aid kit available for minor injuries. A Health officer will be on site; however major injuries will be handled by medical staff in town, with proper parental release form signed. The Saturday night campfire will begin at 8:15 p.m. and will involve all Scout units. There will be limited picnic tables available; please share. A Cracker Barrel will be held at Nelson Lodge on Friday night at 9:00 p.m. for Scoutmaster s/crew Advisor s and Senior Patrol Leader s/crew President s. The BSA is a uniformed organization, and uniforms should be worn by youth & adults for the closing flag ceremony, campfire, and interfaith worship service. Uniforms are not necessary during the competition, or the opening flag ceremony. Nelson Lodge There will be a fee of $8.00 per person. This will cover camp rental fee, patch, liability insurance, and camporee program supplies. Interfaith worship service will begin on Sunday September 28th at 9:00 A.M. in the campfire bowl. All registered Scouts and Adults will receive a colorful embroidered 2014 Camporee patch. Troops are encouraged to camp overnight; if you can not camp, please plan on participating during the day Saturday. First Aid Relay- Ross Jones, rosstopher623@yahoo.com A timed competition with scouts/participants demonstrating their First Aid skills in the face of zombie Attacks! Got to fix em fast or they are zombie food! Fire Starting Competition- Joe Dolan, elatabolt@gmail.com A timed competition, building and starting a fire that is hot enough to burn through a string. Fire is one thing that keeps the zombies at bay! Camp Gadget Lashing- Jackson Thiel, office@johnsonchiro.com A fun event for scouts to practice their lashings while creating Gadgets to either protect their troop from attacking zombies or to make life on the run a tad easier! Shooting Sports- Ozzy Giese/Andrew Binder, 16agies@omro.k12.wi.us (Archery, Tomahawk and Pellet Gun) - Everyone needs to sharpen their skills at taking down those scary brain eaters! Mousetrap Minesweeper- Paul Schmidt, peschmidt@sbcglobal.net A team work game that promotes following directions, giving clear orders and protecting the troop from wandering undead. Shelter Building- Nate Somers, nate4swim@gmail.com We all need cover, not only from the zombies but also the weather! Team Building Game/Competition- Ernie Kretzmann, erniekretzmann@yahoo.com a timed event(s) that makes the troop work as an effective unit in getting themselves to safety. GPS Scavenger Hunt- Steven Fontaine, sw8fontaine@yahoo.com A skill that all will need to be able to find the hidden caches of supplies hidden from the Living Dead!
