2 Camporee Staff Camp Chief: Program: Registration: Lon and Tami Brinkhous Wagon Wheel District Camping Committee Lon and Tami Brinkhous General Information Participation: Any registered Boy Scout or Scouter is invited to attend. There will be no activities for Webelos and they must be sponsored/invited and supervised by a troop. Fees: Camporee cost is $8 for youth and adults. Registration and fee collection will take place at the October roundtable. For registration questions Tami or Lon Brinkhous. Please help us by registering early. Individual units will be responsible for all meals during the Camporee. Adult Leadership: Each unit must have at least 2 adult leaders in camp at all times. At least one must be over 21 years of age. Adults must be current in their Youth Protection Training. Check-in: Check-in is between 6:00 and 8:00 PM Friday evening. All units should send one adult and the Senior Patrol Leader to check-in. Check-out: All units should check out between 8:00 and 11:00 AM Sunday morning. Parking: Parking is very limited at Wakonda and based on weather conditions trailers may or may not be allowed into the campsites. With that in mind, please maximize people to vehicles to help conserve parking. Campfires: Campfires must be inside the rings provided. Above ground, campfire devices are permissible. Please do not kill/scar the grass.

3 Volunteers: We are asking all units to provide a body or two to run the events. All the materials will be provided. We just need help running the events. Please offer your help and select an event at registration time. First Aid: A member of the troop should report any injury to the Camp Staff. For serious life threatening injuries call first. Uniforms: Please encourage the scouts to wear their uniform. Flags: Each troop should display the American and troop flags at the entrance to their campsite. Patrol flags should follow the patrols throughout the camporee. Meals: Individual units will be responsible for all meals during the Camporee. Recognition: The top scoring patrols will be recognized and presented an award. Events: Patrol events will start at 8:15 AM on Saturday and conclude at 4:30 PM. Saturday Night Campfire: At 8:00 PM Saturday we ll have a campfire and award ceremony to recognize the top patrols. Things Not to Do, Not to Bring: All the usual no-no s. No firearms, fireworks, alcohol, pets, non-boy Scout registered siblings, no smoking around scouts. The Legal Stuff: Make sure each Troop has their Individual Medical forms for all participants must be shown at Camporee Check-In on Friday evening. Download this document at

4 Medieval Fun Events Log Hoist: Equipment: 10 meter rope Method: One Scout throws a 10 m rope over a 2.5 m crossbar 5 m away. Another Scout runs up and ties a timber hitch to a log (50 cm long) and runs back. As a Patrol hoist the log free of the ground and hitch the rope to a peg at your starting point using a clove hitch. The log must remain clear of the ground. Scoring: Points for Patrol participation. Judged on time. Incorrect knots will result in a time penalty No-Match/Lighter Fire-Lighting: Equipment: Flint, glass, steel wool, etc. provided by Troop/Patrol, are permitted but no matches, lighters, or commercial scratch lighters. You need good tinder here (No lighter knot). A Scout once used the gauze padding from the cast on his leg! Method: Two Scout team with materials supplied by Troop/Patrol build a small self-sustaining flame in kindling. Multiple teams per Patrol can compete provided the Patrol brings enough material. Scoring: Points for Patrol participation. Judged on the time it takes to get a small self-sustaining flame in kindling. If multiple Scout teams compete, the team with the best time will represent the Patrols score.

5 Six Knot Relay: Equipment: Knot tying station (Provided by Troop 776) Method: Six Scout team. In turn, each Scout runs 10 m, ties a knot, and returns to tag off the next Scout. The six knots are the square knot, two half-hitches, taut-line hitch, clove hitch, timber hitch and bowline. If a Patrol has less than six members, scouts may tie a second knot after all other have had their turn. Scoring: Points for Patrol participation. Judged on time taken to tie knots correctly. Incorrect knots will result in a time penalty. Pole Raising: Equipment: 5 m pole, two 30 m ropes. Method: There is a 5 m pole in a 10 m circle with one end of the pole touching the edge of the circle. You have two 30 m ropes. Without entering the circle, as a Patrol erect the pole in the center of the circle. Scoring: Points for Patrol participation. Judged on time. Merlin s Table Event: Equipment: A flat table with handles on two sides, a large ball, a receiving mechanism. Method: This is a team event; scouts will take the tray (one on each handle) transport the ball along the course to the end where they will place the ball in the receiving tray. The must go over the rough roads and under the fallen tree. This must be done without dropping the ball from the table, and if the ball is dropped, the participants must start all over from the beginning. Scoring: Points for Patrol participation. This event will be by time and cunning. Fastest time wins.

6 Bring Out Your Dead: Equipment: Bodies, Basket. Method: On signal, one Scout must throw bodies one at a time to be caught by a patrol member using a basket. The bodies will be thrown across a river, the Scout catching the bodies cannot get wet. The greatest number of bodies caught by the patrol wins. Scoring: Points for Patrol participation. This event will be by time and cunning. Additional points for accuracy and number of bodies caught. Jousting: Equipment: Pool noodles, targets Method: take turns running through a twisting maze to tag / knock over the targets. cannot stop or backup. At the end of the course return to the starting position and hand over their lance to the next Scout. Eight times through. Scoring: Points for tagging/knocking over each target. Hawk Throwing: Equipment: Tomahawks, backboards Method: Listen to safety instruction, failure to follow safety rules results in Scout disqualification. Before throwing will be given a demonstration on how to throw. Scoring: One point for sticking a hawk on the board, three points for getting a bulls-eye, five points for any combo hat trick, and fifteen points for a bulls-eye hat trick

7 King Arthur Contest Each Troop will pick one adult to represent their Troop at the King Arthur contest. are to decorate their selected King Arthur in the finest regalia possible and then present their king to the court for judging at the Paxton Hall. The winning King Arthur will reign over the Campfire Program.
