1 Media Coordinator s Office Jamia Millia Islamia August 17, 2016 Press Release Jamia Millia Islamia hostel students withdraw strike Residents of Boys Hostel, Jamia Millia Islamia have withdrawn themselves from the agitation over alleged police entry into the campus saying that there was no raid of police personnel and it was only a security breach. In a signed letter written last evening to the Vice Chancellor, JMI submitted through the Chief Proctor, the students announced their withdrawal from the agitation stating that they had realised that some of the issues were being fabricated unnecessarily which have no meaning for us. We the students of Jamia Boys Hostel would like to clarify that there was no raid of police personnel but it was only a security breach. This has created an atmosphere of fear amongst the residents of the hostel they said in the letter a day after the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Talat Ahmad addressed and appealed to them to call-off their stir. Disagreeing with a few students who are still on strike they said that these students have nothing to do with hostel s incidence and are working only for their vested interest adding that they do not even have any idea about the incident that took place on 13/08/2016. On their part, they made it clear that they were in Jamia Millia Islamia to study and not for politics. Referring to the Vice Chancellor, Prof Ahmad s address to them on the evening of August 15, they said that, you have assured that appropriate steps would be taken to avoid such incidents in future. You have also assured us that legal action will be taken by the concerned authorities. We fully agree with your words and hope that you will seriously look into the matter. They said that they had been assured by the university that in the future there will be no security breach by any agency without the permission of university authorities.
