2 Public Sector Corporate Sports Policy for Steel CPSEs released by Union Minister of Steel To nurture the sports talent of country and groom sizeable number of medal hopes for the Olympic 2024, Ministry of Steel launched first of its kind for the Ministry, a Corporate Sports Policy for its Central Public Sector Enterprises. This policy document was released by Chaudhary Birender Singh, Union Minister of Steel at a function held at SCOPE complex, New Delhi in the presence of Ministry s sports committee Chairman Shri N. Baijendra Kumar, IAS, and CMD, NMDC Ltd and Shri Saraswati Prasad, IAS and Chairman, SAIL. In his address, Chaudhary Birender Singh, Hon ble Steel Minster said that now sports acts as a change agent of country as it is equally important for the growth of Nation. India s steel sector contributes more than 2% to GDP, steel sector needs to strive to enhance equivalent contribution in sports. The awareness towards sports is increasing day by day. Parents are encouraging their children to play sports as it not only keeps them fit, but also it has a good career option, he added. This policy is also aiming to achieve the national sports ambitions. Earlier, N. Baijendra Kumar, Chairman of Apex Sports Body (ASB), Ministry of Steel & CMD, NMDC Limited said that this policy will give adequate access to sports and support them for wholesome training, positive health, competitive excellence, livelihood, social harmony and goodwill. To help accelerate this change, sports policy of steel CPSEs would be supplementing the government initiatives and promote sports in their respective areas of operations, he added. Saraswati Prasad, Special Secretary & Financial Advisor, Ministry of Steel and Chairman, SAIL in his address said that this policy will be the change maker in society. He also told about various sports promotion schemes which SAIL runs in its various operational projects across the country. Sandeep Tula, Director (Personnel), NMDC in his welcome speech gave details about the salient features of this policy. Shri M. C. Steel Ministry relief for Kerala flood affected with SAIL Salem Stainless steel Ministry of Steel s major PSUs under the guidance of Hon ble Union Minister of Steel Chaudhary Birender Singh has taken initiative to help the flood affected people of Kerala. Under this, Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) is executing the project by supplying 20,000 plate and tumbler sets. The stainless steel sets are made of SAIL s Salem Stainless steel. Taking up the work at priority level, SAIL s Salem Steel Plant has already flagged off the first lot containing 5000 sets. The Plant will complete the dispatch of the entire quantity within this week, and be ready to serve further requirements if any. REC Inks 200 Million Euro Deal with German Bank KfW REC Limited, the state owned power sector financier, signed a 200 million Euro loan with the German bank KfW in Frankfurt. This is REC s fourth line of credit under Indo-German development cooperation which REC will utilize to finance renewable energy projects in India. This is yet another step towards promoting renewable energy in India after having more than tripled our financing in renewable sector last year. POWERGRID Q1 Net Profit rises 9% to Rs. 2,241crore Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Navratna Company under Ministry of Power, Government of India, has posted a Net Profit of 2,241crore for the first quarter of FY (April-June, 2018), an increase of 9% against 2,052crore reported during the corresponding quarter ended June 30, Total income (turnover) for first quarter (April-June, 2018), rose to 8,428crore, up by14% from 7,390crore in the corresponding year ago period. On a standalone basis, POWERGRID had registered a Net Profit of 8,239crore on a turnover of 30,767crore in the FY POWERGRID s Gross Fixed Assets stood at 1,80,796croreas at June 30, During the quarter, the company incurred capital expenditure of about 6,400 crore. The company has targeted a capital expenditure of 25,000 crore for FY POWERGRID s physical assets as on June 30, 2018 include more than 1,48,600ckm of transmission lines, 236Sub-stations with transformation capacity of more than 3,32,100MVA. With the use of state-of-the-art maintenance techniques, average availability of transmission system during the quarter (April- June 2018) was 99.68%. During FY , POWERGRID s TBCB subsidiaries namely, POWERGRID Parli Transmission Limited & POWERGRID Warora Transmission Limited have successfully completed their respective projects and the same have been declared under commercial operation. BEL net up 43% in Q1 State-run Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) on Tuesday reported a Rs 180 crore net profit for the first quarter of fiscal , registering 43 per cent annual growth from Rs 125 crore over the same period year ago. Sales turnover for the quarter (Q1) under review grew 23 per cent annually to Rs 2,078 crore from Rs 1,695 crore in the like period year ago, said the city-based defence PSU in a statement here. Profit before tax grew 40 per cent annually to Rs 250 crore from Rs 179 crore in the corresponding period year ago. The company s order book as on July 1 was equivalent to Rs 41,645 crore, added the statement. The company s scrip of Re 1 face value gained Rs 8.35 per share at the end of Tuesday s trading on the BSE to close at Rs as against Monday s closing price of Rs and opening rate of Rs

Tourism Fiji has launched their new campaign #BulaHappiness in India to attract more Indian tourists to indulge in the sun and sands of Fiji. The minister further said he expects the footfalls from India to grow over 20 percent in "Our vision is to register sustained increases of tourism from the Indian market," he added. Mizzi said the film industry will boost the tourism, with initiatives like the Malta-India Film Festival, a three-day event starting 14 December in Malta, along with incentives for filmmakers, which is being reviewed to address the industry needs further. He said there has already been a number of tie-ups established with major production companies in Bollywood. Malta, he said, is connected with India with direct flights to and from all major European cities and airport hubs, as well as North Africa, with daily connections to most of the major cities in India. "Talks have focused on enhanced airline connectivity between Malta and India, in order to provide travellers with a much shorter connection to Europe, as well as a hub for connectivity to both Europe and North Africa," he added. The country is looking to promote itself as an all-year-round destination, with heritage all around and Mauritius plans to attract 1.2 lakh Indian tourists in 2020 Mauritius is aiming to attract 1.2 lakh Indian tourists in 2020, up from 88,000 people expected to visit the island nation this year, a senior official from that country said. Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority Director Arvind Bundhun said that 80,000 tourists from India had visited his country last year. He was talking at a road show, part of a four-city initiative, organised here Saturday by the MTPA India. "In the last four years, Mauritius tourism has seen double digit growth, with Indian tourists contributing significantly to this. We are looking to attract 1.2 lakh Indian tourists to our country in 2020," Bundhun said. He said that Mauritius has positioned itself as an "affordable luxury destination" which offers tourists different activities like golf, spa, sky diving, zip-lining among others.

12 12 September, 2018 Looking to have 150 hotels in India in next 3 years: IHG Global hospitality major InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is looking to have 150 hotels in India, including those in pipeline, in next three years, a senior official has said. The hospitality chain currently has 31 hotels operational and 46 in pipeline in India under its four brands. "We expect to get 150 hotels in India, that is opened hotels and and hotels in pipeline in next two to three years from the 77 today," IHG Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa CEO Kenneth Macpherson said. At present the company has four brands in India Intercontinental Hotels, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express, he added. "The upcoming hotels will be under the brands we have in the country and on the strength of Holiday Inn in the Indian market, it is going to be a key part in the growth," Macpherson said.
