4 NSPCL Pays Total Interim Dividend of `120 Crore to NTPC & SAIL NTPC-SAIL Power Company Ltd. (NSPCL), a 50:50 joint venture of two Maharatna Companies NTPC and SAIL on th 28 March, 2017 paid interim dividend of `120 crore (`60 crore each to NTPC & SAIL) which works out 12.24% of paid up equity share capital. The dividend and dividend distribution Tax amounts to 59.57% of Profit After Tax of Company achieved for the period April-December Shri Manash Sarkar, CEO, NSPCL alongwith Shri S.V. 5 18th NTPC Quality Circle Convention at Sipat th th th The 18 NTPC Convention of Quality Circles (NQCC) was held in NTPC Sipat on March, Shri Saptarshi Roy, Director(HR) inaugurated the event in the presence of Shri P.K. Mohapatra, RED (WR-II), Shri A.K. Samanta, Group General Manager (NTPC-Sipat), Shri Prakash Tiwari, Group General Manager (NTPC-Korba), Shri M.S.D. Bhattamishra, GM (HR) WR-II. Fourteen teams from seven regions of NTPC participated in the convention reflecting total involvement and exuberance in the Quality Circle Movement. Each team presented the theme based problem and its solutions by the help of model. "Samasya Solvers" the Quality Circle Team of Talcher Thermal was adjudged as the Winner and team "Pragati" of Dadri was the First Runner up and team "Gen-X" of Korba adjudged as Second Runner Up. "Urja Jyothy" of Simhadri got the Best Model Award while First Runner Up "Gen-X" from Korba and Second Runner Up was team "Pragati" from Solapur. In this competition best Quality Circle Unit Award was presented to Rihand. Samashya Solvers of Talcher Thermal have became eligible to participate in the International Convention on Quality Control Circles (ICQCC 2017) to be held in PaSay City, Philippines in October Shri Roy inaugurated the newly constructed Samaveshi Bhavan and visited model room, Stage-I and II control room and witnessed various unique interventions adopted by Sipat Station. 6 Talk by Jal Purush Shri Rajendra Singh Power Management Institute (PMI) organised a talk by Shri Rajendra Singh, regarded as Water Man nd (Jal Purush) of India on 22 March, 2017 on the eve of World Water Day. Shri Singh won the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2001 for his pioneering work in community-based efforts in water harvesting and water management. In 2015 he won the Stockholm Water Prize, known as "The Nobel Prize for Water". He gave inspiring insights into water conservation and rejuvenation during the talk. The session was telecasted live to all the offices, projects and stations of NTPC. This was part of NTPC PMI Eminent Speaker Series where renowned personality are invited. Pg.5

8 Operational Performance Highlights of NTPC in FY 17 NTPC has crossed the landmark of 50GW (now MW) capacity & annual generation threshold of 250 BU ( BU, growth of 3.45%). NTPC has achieved all GOI- MOU Production parameters viz. Generation, 2.5% reduction of SP. Coal, Sp. Water, Forced Outage, ESP R&M of 6 units and 12.5 % increase in Ash utilisation. NTPC group also has achieved highest ever annual generation of BU (growth of 5.09%). NTPC & group NTPC have recorded highest ever day generation of MU & MU rd respectively on 23 March-17. Nine coal stations have surpassed their highest ever annual generation: Rihand (21969 MU, PLF-83.59%), Vindhyachal (32207 MU, PLF-77.24%), Sipat(23779 MU, PLF %), Farakka (13744 MU, PLF %), Kahalgaon(15947 MU, PLF- 77.8%), Barh (7642 MU, PLF-66.09%), Bongaigaon (1680 MU, PLF-75.67%), Mouda( MU, PLF 42.54%),Vallur (9210 MU, PLF-70.1%). Koldam: 3225 MU, PLF-46% has achieved highest annual generation. Solar stations have also achieved highest annual generation of MU. Following regions recorded highest ever annual generation: WR-1: 9095 MU, WR-2: MU, ER-1: MU, ER-2: MU. Pg.7

10 Vindhyachal Commissions First FGD plant of NTPC NTPC 's first Flue Gas Desulpurisation Plant was commissioned on th 27 March, 2017 at Vindhyachal for its Stage V, 500 MW Unit # 13. This is a Wet Flue Gas Treatment Plant installed to limit harmful Sox gases from effluents released to the atmosphere. With this, Vindhyachal has gone a step further towards controlling Environment Pollution. The by product from this plant will be gypsum which is used in cement industries, brick manufacturing etc. Pg.9

12 Ministry of Power Initiative India becomes Net Exporter of Electricity for the first Time As per Central Electricity Authority, the Designated Authority of Government of India for Cross Border Trade of Electricity, 1st time India has turned around from a net importer of electricity to Net Exporter of electricity. During the current year (April to February 2017), India has exported around 5,798 Million Units to Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar which is 213 Million units more than the import of around 5,585 Million units from Bhutan. Export to Nepal and Bangladesh increased 2.5 and 2.8 times respectively in last three years. Ever since the cross border trade of electricity started in mid-eighties, India has been importing power from Bhutan and marginally exporting to Nepal in radial mode at 33 kv and 132 kv from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. On an average Bhutan has been supplying around 5, Million units to India. India had also been exporting around 190 MW power to Nepal over 12 cross border interconnections at 11kV, 33kV and 132 kv level. The export of power to Nepal further increased by around 145 MW with commissioning of Muzaffarpur (India) Dhalkhebar(Nepal) 400kV line (being operated at 132 kv) in st Export of power to Bangladesh from India got further boost with commissioning of 1 cross border Interconnection between Baharampur in India and Bheramara in Bangladesh at 400kV in September It was further augmented by commissioning of 2nd cross border Interconnection between Surjyamaninagar (Tripura) in India and South Comilla in Bangladesh. At present around 600 MW power is being exported to Bangladesh. Export of power to Nepal is expected to increase by around 145 MW shortly over 132kV Katiya (Bihar) Kusaha (Nepal) and 132 kv Raxaul (Bihar) Parwanipur (Nepal). A few more cross border links with neighbouring countries are in pipe line which would further increase export of power. Pg.11

13 Innovations in Power Sector At the Geneva International Auto Show, Goodyear unveiled a new concept tire called the BH03. While we don t know why it is called that, we do know that Goodyear s new tyre looks radical and could potentially generate electricity for electric cars by converting the friction heat of the tyre on the road. Goodyear Releases Electricity-Generating Tyre Concept The tyre will collect heat in multiple ways, primarily from the friction heat, but also the heat generated by tyre flex. The most interesting thing about these tyres is that they can still collect heat while not moving! Small patches on the tyre s thermopiezoelectric layer can collect heat from the sun on a hot day. While this is still just a concept, with no clear way to power the car and no release date, we are excited by the potential. Pg.12

21 Largest Practical Science Lesson An incredible 2,900 primary and secondary school kids took part in the world's Largest practical science lesson at th the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on 12 August, 2016 and they all went home as Guinness World Records title holders. The subject of the huge lesson was magnetic fields. The kids got into teams of up to five people and then had a go at two interesting experiments using magnets. The challenge was planned by Queensland Government as it wanted to celebrate science and technology with the country s young students. Speaking about the record, Leeanne Enoch who is Australia s Minister for Innovation, Science and the Digital Economy said: It s fantastic to see young Queenslanders demonstrating their interest in this diverse area. The jobs of the future will certainly require skills in the STEM subjects of science, technology, engineering and maths. Queensland Chief Scientist Dr Geoff Garrett said: Today s event was a fun opportunity for young people to be inspired by science and also encourage students to further their studies in this dynamic subject.
