Jha, Director (Technical), Shri U.P. Pani, Director (HR), Shri S.C. Pandey, Director (Projects) and Shri Kulamani Biswal, Director (Finance), visited Solapur on December 26, They took a progress review of Solapur Township and visited model B-Type and C-Type Quarters. Shri G.J. Despande, RED (WR-I), and Shri N.N. Rai, GM (Solapur), explained the detailed planned township layout to the dignitaries. On the occasion, Dr. Arup Roy Choudhury also inaugurated the EOT Crane by flagging off its operation and also unveiled the Solapur Vision & Mission Statement and Foundation Stone for Field Hostel III. Highest Single Day Generation by NTPC Stations NTPC generated Million Units (MUS), with % capacity availability, from its coal stations on December 7, 2013, which is the highest daily generation achieved by NTPC coal stations in the current financial year. Total generation (coal + gas) on the day stood at MUs, which is also the highest daily generation achieved by the Company in the current financial year. Seven out of 16 coal stations achieved >95% PLF on December 7, out of which, three stations achieved >100% PLF. In , NTPC stations achieved gross generation of Billion Units (BUs) as against BUs in the previous year, registering a growth of 4.49%.

The beginning of a New Year is a time to reflect on what we have done and what can be done. I feel proud to lead Team NTPC which comprises of exceptional professionals like you all. Together with your performance and support, we were able to withstand the challenges faced by the power sector in the year gone by and maintain our performance standards. Dr. Arup Roy Choudhury With your efforts we have crossed the 42 GW Chairman & Managing Director mark. Our achievements have been widely acknowledged, not only in terms of awards, but also by investor confidence. On the very first day of its launch i.e , NTPC s Tax Free Bonds worth ` 1,000 crore were oversubscribed by 3.37 times i.e. ` 3,369 crore was bid on the stock exchange. NTPC has a robust growth pipeline: Capacity Addition of 10,200 MW in the recent past Added record capacity of 4170 MW (in FY ) About 20,000 MW under construction Earlier in February 2013, we garnered over USD 2 Billion (` 11, crore) during the Offer for Sale for disinvestment of 9.5% Gol s stakes, which was oversubscribed by 1.7 times, with 45% coming from foreign investors. While the impressive record of our machine availability has helped us to actualize our Mission of providing reliable power, we have been able to perform equally well in almost all other areas and functions. We are certain that NTPC is likely to exceed the 14,000 MW th Capacity addition committed for the 12 Plan Period. We added 10,260 MW during the last three years which is around 24% of the total capacity added in the last 37 years. Operationalization of inland waterway transportation of coal has also been added in our list of firsts. We must all acknowledge the tremendous efforts of our colleagues, who work 24x7 at plants and stations in scripting our success story and we must all think of how to support and enable them to discharge their duties with enhanced zeal and enthusiasm. Our accomplishments should not make us complacent. The challenges in front of us include: Ensuring fuel security Timely project completion and Higher operational efficiency, indicated by draft CERC regulations The draft CERC regulations for have caused a bit of concern and we are taking it up with CERC to impress upon them the need to modify some of their norms and provisions. We are hopeful that our policy advocacy efforts will bear fruit and NTPC will obtain an optimum regulatory dispensation. Let us join our efforts in the face of these challenges and resolve to record many new accomplishments in the name of our company in the coming year. 3 A Maharatna Company Kayamkulam Awarded for Energy Conservation nd Kayamkulam bagged 2 prize in the Thermal Power Station category (gas fired) for Excellence in Energy Conservation at the National Energy Conservation Awards 2013 held In Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, Shri C.V. Subramanian, General Manager, Kayamkulam received the award from the Hon'ble President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee in the august presence of Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of State for Power (Independent Charge), Shri R.R. Mohanty, Sr. Manager (HR), ERHQ-II, NTPC received the Best State Nodal Officer Award on the occasion. NTPC signs MOU for setting up Medical College in Odisha NTPC signed an MOU with Govt. of Odisha on December 13, 2013 for setting up Medical College and Hospital at Sundargarh, Odisha. Shri U.P. Pani, Director (HR) and Shri P.K. Mohapatra, Principal Secretary to Govt. Health & FW Department, Odisha, signed the MOU on behalf of NTPC and Govt. of Odisha respectively in the august presence of Shri Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister of Odisha, Dr. Damodar Raut, Health & FW Minister and Dr. Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, NTPC. Final Roll-Out of e-monitoring Launched Shri A.K. Jha, Director (Technical) and Shri S.C. Pandey, Director (Projects) launched the Final Roll-out of e-monitoring through ERP-PS Module on December 31, They appreciated the efforts of the Task Force Roll-out members. 3

4 lekpkj DG (Commercial), CAG visits Vindhyachal Shri P. Sesh Kumar, Director General (Commercial), CAG, visited Vindhyachal recently for a brief review. Shri S.K. Roy, GM (I/C) escorted Shri Sesh Kumar around the Stage-V construction area and control room of Stage-III. He also addressed the senior executives of the project. CMD reviews Farakka, Inaugurates Jetty Dr. Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, NTPC inaugurated the coal unloading Jetty on Farakka Feeder Canal at a function on December 7, Present on the occasion were Shri P.R. Dahake, General Manager (I/C) Farakka, Shri S. Roy, Regional Executive Director, ER-1 and Shri G. Ravindra, ED (FM). The Jetty, will be used to unload imported coal being ferried directly from Haldia to Farakka in barges. This is the first time in India that inland water route has been used to transport coal to a thermal power plant. Earlier, CMD laid the foundation stone of a new two lane bridge across the Farakka Feeder Canal. He also reviewed the station performance with the HODs. CMD also addressed the employees at a communication meeting. 4

5 A Maharatna Company NTPC and KfW-Germany Ink Agreement for Research Cooperation NTPC signed Financing Agreement with KfW- Germany to setup of Solar Thermal and Photovoltaic Lab at NETRA under the aegis of Indo-German Research Cooperation through a Grant of 5 million and matching contribution from NTPC. These world class labs are being setup with assistance from German R&D institutions M/s DLR, Cologne and ISE, Fraunhofer for characterization of Solar Thermal and Photovoltaic prototypes and components. The MoU was signed by Mr. Thomas Joseph, Executive Director, NTPC-NETRA, Mr. Peter Hilliges, Director (KfW) and Mr. Andreas Thermann, Deputy Director (KfW) in presence of Shri A.K. Jha, Director (Technical), NTPC and other officials from NTPC and KfW. India Pride Award to NTPC NTPC has been awarded for Excellence in Corporate Governance at the India Pride Award function, held in New Delhi recently. The Award was received by Shri Manash Sarkar, Executive Director (Corporate Affairs & Corporate Communication and ED to CMD), NTPC, from Shri Rajeev Shukla, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Planning in the presence of Shri Charan Das Mahant, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing and other dignitaries. EUR 55 Million Term Loan Facility Tied up with KfW NTPC tied up a fixed interest term loan facility for EUR 55 million with KfW, the German government developmental financial institution, to part finance the capital expenditure on Electro Static Precipitators and other selected packages of its Mouda Stage-II power project. th An agreement to this effect was signed on 18 December 2013 by Shri G.K. Sadhu, Executive Director (Finance), on behalf of NTPC. The facility has a door to door maturity of 12 years including availability period of 4 years. The loan is on a stand alone basis without sovereign guarantee reflecting the trust and confidence reposed by the German financial institution in NTPC s strong credit quality and professional management. KfW has, in the past, provided financial support to the company s renovation and modernization and emission reduction schemes. 5

Misra, Director (Operations) presented Long Service Awards to 169 employees of Rihand for their 25 Years of Continuous Service. In his address, he congratulated them for their sense of belongingness, loyalty, devotion and contribution which has made NTPC a front runner in the world. Shri Sharad Anand, Regional Executive Director (North), Dr. Arja Srikant, Executive Director, (Coal Minning & Fuel Transportation), Shri P. Ramesh, General Manager (Incharge) and senior dignitaries were present on the occasion. Kayamkulam Organises Medical Camp A free Respiratory Disease d e t e c t i o n c a m p w a s organised at Kayamkulam on December 09, 2013 for the benefit of local people as part of its CSR-CD programme. More than 180 patients benefitted from the camp. Employees of NTPC and Members of Samunnathi were present on this occasion. Distinguished Xaverian Award to CMD Dr. Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, NTPC, and Chairman DVC has been given Distinguished Xaverian Award by St. Xavier Alumni Association (SXAA) for his outstanding services and contribution to the Building Construction and Power sector at the Alumni Reunion of the st Institution held in Patna on December 21. Other distinguished Alumni of the prestigious institution awarded were Shri D.K. Mehrotra former Chairman, LIC and Shri Arun Singh, Ambassador of India to France for their services in respective fields. Maj. General Abhay Krishna and Shri Siddarth Chaudhary, Writer, were also given significant Achievement Awards on the occasion. 6

Koldam Hydro Project closer to Generating Power With the start of reservoir impounding on December 19, 2013, Koldam, the flagship Hydro Power Project of NTPC shall be ready to generate power by the year Koldam project, with an installed capacity of 800 MW (4x200 MW), will provide the much needed peaking capacity to the Northern grid and annually generate 3054 GWh electricity at 90% dependable year basis. Addressing the employees after inaugurating the filling up of the reservoir, Dr. Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, appreciated their efforts and exhorted them to continue with the same zeal and bring the project on stream at the earliest. Director (HR) presents Long Service Awards at Talcher Kaniha Twenty three employees of NTPC Talcher Kaniha including Darlipalli Super Thermal Power Project were awarded with long service awards at Talcher Kaniha. Chief Guest of the function, Shri. U.P. Pani, Director (HR) distributed the awards to the awardees in presence of Shri Arvind Kumar, RED (East II), Shri V.B. Fadnavis, ED (TK) & Shri MSD Bhattamisra, GM (HR), (East II). Shri. U.K. Dasgupta, GM (Maintenance), Smt Geeta Pani, Vice President Samyukta Mahila Samiti, Smt. Neeta Fadnavis, President (Tanvi Sangam) & Smt. Sonali Dasgupta, Vice- President, Bal Bhavan, committee members of Tanvi Sangam along with senior executives & members of union & association of Kaniha were present on the occasion. The Energy Conservation week was organized at NTPC Dadri during December 14-20, On the occasion, activities such as energy pledge, quiz, slogan, essay, painting competitions and lectures were organized for the employees & school children. 9 A Maharatna Company CSR Initiative of NSPCL NSPCL has signed an MoU with Centre for Social Responsibility & Leadership (CSRL), New Delhi (an NGO) for sponsoring talented students of economically weaker section, under its CSR initiatives. These children shall be provided specialized coaching for IIT/JEE mains, IIT/JEE advance & State Engineering entrance examinations. Shri K.K. Sharma, CEO, NSPCL, Shri S.K Shahi, Director, CSRL, Shri S.V. Shahi, CFO, NSPCL, Shri A.N. Verma, GM (HR), NSPCL, Smt. Premlata, AGM (HR), NSPCL with other dignitaries were present on the occasion. Dulanga Organises Training for Teachers In order to improve the quality of education imparted to the students, a three day (December 11 to 13, 2013) block level teachers' training cum orientation programme was organised at Sanghumuda High School, Hemgir, by D.E.O. Sundargarh. The event was inaugurated by Shri Pradeep Dang, BDO, Hemgir, as the Chief Guest and Shri B. Padhan, AGM (TS), Dulanga as the Guest of Honour. The programme is being conducted by selected experts in the field of education and is being attended by about 80 teachers from different schools around the project. Solapur completes Chimney Shell Casting Solapur has achieved a major milestone by completing Chimney Shell Casting on December 13, 2013, three and half months ahead of scheduled target date of March 31, 2014 Shri N.N. Rai, General Manager, congratulated the Solapur Team, IVRCL Team and all other associates for this achievement. 9

10 lekpkj Cancer Screening Camp at NTPC Township Smt. Sharmila Roy Choudhury, President, Saheli Club inaugurated a Cancer Screening Camp for Ladies at NTPC Township, Noida. More than 100 ladies from NTPC and its associates registered for the checkup, out of which, more than 10 suspicious cases were advised for further investigation. Smt. Gitika Shiv, GM (HR-S), senior doctors and officers from NTPC were present on the occasion. The camp was organised in association with Dharamshila Hospital and Research Centre, New Delhi. CSR activities at Korba An eight-minute film showcasing CSR initiatives taken up by Korba station of NTPC during was released at the Village Development Advisory Committee (VDAC) Meeting held on December 27, Speaking on the occasion, Shri Prakash Tiwari, General Manager (In-charge), Korba, reiterated the commitment of the station towards enriching the communities surrounding the power station. NTPC Publications Awarded by PRSI Three publications of NTPC, brought out by Corporate Communication Department, were awarded under different categories at the Annual PRSI awards. E-varta received first prize as Electronic Magazine, Core Values booklet got second and NTPC Sustainability Report got third prize in the Special Publication category. The awards were presented by Shri O.P. Rawat, Secretary, th Deptt. of Public Enterprises, Govt. of India, at the 35 All India Public Relations Conference, held in New Delhi, from December 28-30, Korba has also launched a 50-day medical camp in which more than 1300 contract workers have been identified for medical check-up. Inaugurating the camp on December 17, 2013, Shri Anand Khalatkar, GM (Fuel Management), reiterated the commitment of the station to the health and safety of its workers. Villagers of Dindolbhata village, in the vicinity of the Power Station, were also given blankets as part of CSR activities. The winter apparel are also being distributed among the BPL families in Chhirhut, Pandripani, Dodankdhari villages which are also located near to the power station. 10
