2 Power Minister Reviews Operational and Project Performance th Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Power (Independent Charge) visited NTPC on 14 November, 2012 and reviewed the operational performance and progress of its projects through IT enabled real time basis at the Operations and Project Monitoring Centres of the Company. Shri Scindia noted in the visitors book, "It is a pleasure to visit the Maharatna of our Republic. I am awestruck to see the amazing use of IT to better our productivity. I wish NTPC all success, powering our Nation". Shri Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, NTPC explained the present and future plans of the Company through a presentation. Hon ble Power Minister interacted with all the Directors and discussed various issues pertaining to the challenges and initiatives of the Company. 105 th 1

3 Total Installed Capacity goes up to 39,674 MW With the commissioning of the third 500 MW unit of Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project at Jhajjar, the total installed capacity of NTPC has increased to 39,674 MW. NTPC presently has over MW capacity projects under construction in different parts of the country. 105 th 2

He said, "I look forward to your suggestions for improving the systems and processes in the Company". Shri A K Singhal, Director ( Finance), Shri B P Singh, Director (Projects), Shri S P Singh, Director (Human Resources ), Shri N N Misra Director (Operations) and Shri A K Jha, Director (Technical) were present on the occasion. A large number of employees listened to the CMD's address at the green lawns of EOC, Noida and through live coverage of the event at project & RHQ's. 5 Swarn Shakti Awards Presented Shri P Uma Shankar, Secretary (Power), GOI addressed the NTPC employees at a Programme th to celebrate the 37 Raising Day of the Company. In his speech, he appreciated the performance of NTPC and congratulated the employes on their achievements. He presented the Swarn Shakti Awards to the best performing Stations of the Company. NTPC Ramagundam bagged the rolling trophy as the best performing NTPC Station. Shri Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, NTPC and the Board of Directors were present on the occasion. 8 NTPC Bags Greentech CSR Award 2012 NTPC Ltd. has been awarded Greentech CSR Award 2012 in Gold Category in Power Sector by Greentech Foundation. NTPC has built strong partnerships with the communities around its projects and also with the wider society through a well-conceived basket of CSR interventions for the betterment of lives of the people. NTPC takes up various CSR activities in the focus areas of basic infrastructure development like sanitation, road, drinking water; primary education; community health; skill development for the community. Shri S K Jain, GM (CSR) received the award from Shri Bhaskar Chatterjee, IAS, Director General, Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Govt of India, in the presence of distinguished business and public leaders and CSR th experts during 13 Annual Global Environment & th CSR Conference at Hyderabad on 30 October, th 7

9 "Integration of CSR with Rural Management is the Key" Corporate CSR Group in association with PMI organized a 4 day residential training programme Integration of CSR with Rural th st Management at Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA) from 29 Oct 01 November, Over 30 participants across the NTPC regions, stations, projects, coal mines and senior officials from Corporate Centre attended the programme. While inaugurating the programme, Shri N K Sharma, ED (R&R, Safety & CSR) stressed on the need of integrated community development approach for inclusive growth of the rural community neighbouring NTPC area of operation. Field visits were also organized covering the success stories of the renowned cooperative movement including Amul. Shri A C Chaturvedi, ED (PMI) and Shri S K Jain, GM (CSR) graced the occasion and provided valuable insights to the participants during the panel discussion. 105 th 8

Sharmila Roy Choudhury, President Saheli Club/Sanyukta Mahila Samiti by Lighting the diya, Smt. Sabina Kapoor, Smt. Shipra Singh, Smt. Anita Misra, other senior members of Club & Bal Bhawan, Noida were also present during the function. On this occation, the members of both the Clubs presented a cultural programme including a small skit., and a solo dance competition which was highly appreciated by the gathering. 15 ED (PP&M) Reviews Meja Shri K K Sharma, ED (PP&M) visited Meja rd Thermal Power Project on 3 November, During his visit, Shri Sharma inaugurated DG Set at newly constructed township of the project. Shri K K Sharma also interacted with Shri Vinod Sharma, CEO, NTPC Meja and with the HoD s and employees on various issues regarding the plant functioning while sharing the Company s growth and future plans with them. 105 th 14

16 72 Street Light Systems Provided Under CSR initiative, NTPC Kaniha lit up 72 street lights of the villages around the periphery of the project. In a simple function, Shri Tathagata Satpathy, Hon'ble MP(Loksabha), Dhenkanal inaugurated the event by switching on the electrical box in the presence of Shri Braja Kishore Pradhan, Hon'ble MLA, Talcher & Shri V B Fadnavis, GM and other senior officials of the project. The work was executed by NTPC with a budget of `17.33 Lakhs. The operational & maintenance of these street lights will also be borne by NTPC Kaniha. 105 th 15

17 NTPC Stall Awarded The NTPC Stall in the exhibition at Global Investors Meet 2012 at Naya Raipur bagged third prize in the Public Sector Category. The prize was given away by Shri Brij Mohan Aggarwal, Hon'ble Education and Cultural Minister of Chattisgarh at an award Ceremony held at the closing day of the exhibition. The award was received by Shri A K Saxena DGM (PR) and Shri B Chandra Manager(OS). The NTPC stall attracted a large numbers of visitors and exhibited information on India's leading Power Generation Company. 105 th 16

18 NTPC Housing Update NTPC Employees Housing Welfare Organisation (NEHWO) launched 49 housing projects from Private Developers spread across India for subscription among its members. Out of 49 projects, 8 projects located at Noida, Lucknow, Bhubneswar, Banglore, Pune, Indore & Hyderabad, have been selected based upon the response from members. Allotment of units at DLF, Bangalore; KUL Utsav, Pune; Silver Springs, Indore; A V Constructions, Hyderabad; and ELDECO - Lucknow has already been done. Draw for allotment of Units at Amrapali Dream Valley rd Project, Greater Noida (West) was held on 3 November, 2012 at R&D Auditorium, EOC, Noida. The Draw was inaugurated by NEHWO, President & ED (OS) Shri G J Deshpande in the presence of about 200 members. A total of 564 units at Amrapali Dream Valley Project were allotted among NEHWO members. Congratulations! to all the allottees. Allotment of Units at Amrapali Silicon City, NOIDA and Amrapali Jagannath, Bhubaneswar projects is anticipated shortly. 105 th 17

19 World Diabetes Day is the primary global awareness campaign held on November 14 of each year. It was introduced in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization in response to the alarming rise of diabetes around the world. The day marks the birthday of Frederick Banting who first conceived the idea which led to the discovery of insulin in th Each year, World Diabetes Day is centred on a theme related to diabetes. Some of the topics covered are diabetes and human rights, diabetes and lifestyle, diabetes and obesity, diabetes in the disadvantaged and the vulnerable, diabetes in children and adolescents. For , the theme is Diabetes Education and its Prevention.

20 The Black Dot A small town chamber of commerce invited a speaker to address its annual dinner. The community s economy was bad, people were discouraged, and they wanted this motivational speaker to give them a boost. During her presentation, the speaker took a large piece of white paper and made a small black dot in the centre of it with a marking pen. Then she held the paper up before the group and ask them what they saw. One person quickly replied, I see a black dot. Okay, what else do you see? Others joined in agreement : A black dot. Don t you see anything besides the dot? she asked. A resounding No came from the audience. What about the sheet of paper? asked the speaker. I am sure you have all seen it, she said, But you have chosen to overlook it. In life, we also tend to overlook and take for granted many wonderful things that we have or happen around us and focus our attention and energy on small, dotlike failures and disappointments. The so called problems that we have usually like the black dot on the paper. They are small and insignificant if we can widen our horizon and look at the whole picture.
