1 93 rd ANNUAL CPMA CONVENTION & TRADE SHOW APRIL 24-26, 2018 VANCOUVER CONVENTION CENTRE, VANCOUVER BC The 93 rd Annual CPMA Convention and Trade Show was the largest Vancouver event to date. Over 3700 guests, representing 23 countries and over 1100 unique companies participated in the show. New elements such as the Fresh Drinks for Young Professionals Reception and the Women in Produce Reception provided targeting networking opportunities. A dynamic business program combined with the Trade Show to deliver an extensive roster of activities for the delegates.

2 Speakers and Sessions Robert Saik, discussed changing the conversation from NO GMO to KNOW GMO. His session had a lot of people talking, a definite conversation starter. Rob is a professional agrologist who works with all types of farming operations. Business and Dietitian Sessions Ben Hughes from Zespri started the first session by discussing how Zespri is bidding to take fresh produce marketing down the CPG path to make a stronger emotional connection with consumers, followed by Roland Fumasi from Rabobank who discussed the forces impacting Canadian Produce Industry. For the second year in a row, CPMA invited 70 registered dietitians to attend a professional development session where they learned more about issues and resources, such as Half Your Plate, food safety, health claims and more. CPMA Exhibitors Give back to the Community Every year, CPMA works with local food banks to ensure the leftover fresh produce goes to people in need in the local community. At the close of this year s event, CPMA exhibitors donated over 50,000 lbs of fresh produce to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, which distributed it to their 84 partner agencies in the area. Donations were also made to the Strathcona Community Centre Backpack Program program as well as the Quest Food Exchange continuing a long tradition of community support in each host city. Companion Program helps out This year s Companion Program participants had a chance to brighten up patient s day at the St. Paul s Hospital in Vancouver. Companions started off their day by working with J Schwanke from ubloom to create their simple market bunch of flowers into a fabulous flower arrangement. These beautiful arrangements were taken to patient s room in the hospice ward of the hospital and brought many smiles to their faces.

4 Social Events The Chair s Welcome Reception proved to be a night of scientific experimentation at the TELUS World of Science. Step right up! The After Party Carnival was the place to be for networking and fun Our Annual Banquet with Randy Bachman was the perfect way to cap off the show in Vancouver.

5 Passion for Produce This year s 19 Passion for Produce participants were given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to expand their knowledge of the produce industry. These rising stars learned about key aspects of the supply chain, networked with industry leaders, and toured Windset Farms, Houweling s, Fresh Point Fresh Cuts, and the Oppenheimer Group. Half Your Plate Hockey Classic CPMA played BCPMA in the fourth annual Half Your Plate Hockey Classic, with CPMA taking the cup home. Both teams benefited from some Silver Medal support as four Canadian women s hockey greats joined in the fun: Blayre Turnbull, Brianne Jenner, Emily Clark and Meghan Agosta. Receptions
