IUMI Conference The IUMI Conference is the largest international marine insurance forum and the cornerstone of all IUMI activities. Canadian Board of Marine Underwriters (CBMU) Founded in 1917 and having recently celebrated its 100th anniversary, the CBMU is one of Canada s oldest associations. For over a century, the CBMU has played an integral role in representing the interests of the marine insurance industry in Canada. Its close relationship with the Federal Government, particularly Transport Canada, and with the Canadian Maritime Law Association, allows CBMU to focus on marine trade policy and comment directly on proposed changes to legislation affecting the marine industry. CBMU and IUMI The CBMU has shared a long and cherished history of working with IUMI. Canada and the CBMU are proud that past CBMU President, Maurice Jaques, was the first member from North America to serve as IUMI President in 1988, and set the stage for other CBMU leaders to serve on the IUMI Executive. Participation on IUMI Technical Committees has also been a long-standing commitment that the CBMU has made to the international maritime community and one it takes very seriously. The CBMU currently has two members sitting as Vice Chairs of the Cargo and Loss Prevention Committees. The CBMU and Canada have a great deal to offer on the global stage, and are dedicated to the continued success of IUMI and the marine insurance industry worldwide.

4 Host City: Toronto I Canada will be hosting the IUMI Conference for n 2019 a third time. After very successful conferences held in Toronto in 1994 and Vancouver in 2008, IUMI 2019 will return to Toronto, Canada s largest city. Toronto is one of the most dynamic and culturally diverse cities in the world and will serve as the perfect backdrop for this international meeting of marine professionals. Facts Toronto is the capital city of the province of Ontario, Canada s most populous province. Centrally located between New York City, Chicago and Montreal, Pearson International serves as Mega Hub Airport. Toronto sits on the northern shore of Lake Ontario (the easternmost of the Great Lakes) and has a shoreline stretching 43 km featuring sandy beaches, marinas and working ports. The population of the City of Toronto is 2.8 million, ranking fourth in North America, behind Mexico City, New York City and Los Angeles, and just slightly ahead of Chicago. 7 Conference Venue T IUMI 2019 Conference venue is The Fairmont Royal York he Hotel, one of Canada s oldest and most prestigious hotels. When opened in 1929, the Royal York hotel was the tallest building in the British Commonwealth and quickly set the hospitality standard of the day. The magnificent hotel became known as a city within a city, rising in 28 floors of architectural splendor and replete with mechanical genius and opulence never before seen in Toronto. It boasted 1,048 rooms each with radios, private showers and bathtubs. Located in the downtown core, Fairmont Royal York is minutes from the city s business and financial district, and attractions. It continues to epitomize hospitality and luxury, hosting international business meetings, and including heads of states and royalty among its distinguished guests. The majority of the meeting space is conveniently located on two adjacent floors; and all IUMI functions will be held on the Convention and Main Mezzanine levels which are connected both by elevator and stairs.
