2 INVITATION TO ATTEND The 2012 International Schumpeter Society Conference will be held in Brisbane, Australia. The University of Queensland will host the event over three and a half days in July with the evolution of economic systems, through innovation, entrepreneurship and competitive processes, as a core theme. The Local Organising Committee has confirmed a range of dynamic speakers and a program of social events to enhance the conference experience for all delegates. ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL JOSEPH A SCHUMPETER SOCIETY The International Joseph A Schumpeter Society has more than 400 members from 40 countries. The Society publishes the Journal of Evolutionary Economics and awards the Schumpeter Prize. Since the founding conference in 1986, the Society has held biennial open-call conferences. The conference was held in Aalborg in ABOUT BRISBANE, QUEENSLAND Brisbane, Queensland s capital city, is a diverse, green city with a great climate. Brisbane is Australia s third largest city, and boasts a unique relaxed lifestyle. Visitors to Brisbane can enjoy galleries, museums, great nightlife, markets and festivals in the Australian city, or head further afield to explore the river, mountains, beaches and forests. Brisbane operates on Eastern Standard Time, and does not observe Daylight Saving Time. ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND, ST LUCIA CAMPUS The 2012 ISS Conference will be held at the University of Queensland at the St Lucia campus. The University of Queensland's St Lucia campus is considered by many to be Australia's most attractive University campus. It is located seven kilometres from the city's heart on a magnificent 114-hectare site in a bend of the Brisbane River. The campus is easily accessible from the city centre either by the City Cat ferry service (approx. 20 minutes) or high frequency bus services (approx. 15 minutes). Online registration is available via the 2012 ISS Conference website at Registration Terms & Conditions Payment Policy Payment of EARLY BIRD registration fees are required on or before 11/05/12 to qualify for the rate. After this date, all unpaid EARLY BIRD registrations will automatically roll over and will be charged at the REGULAR rate. Full payment is required prior to the commencement of the 2012 ISS Conference. Admission to the Conference and all social functions may be refused if payment has not been received. Late fees based on a sliding scale will apply to any outstanding invoices after the conclusion of the Conference. Payment Methods Payment must accompany all registration forms. The preferred method of payment is by Credit Card. Credit Card The Conference will accept payments via MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Diners Club. Alternatively, we will accept payment by cheque and electronic funds transfer (EFT) however please note that the amount received by All Occasions Management MUST be the full invoiced amount, in Australian dollars. Bank fees will be charged by your bank to process either a cheque or EFT so please ensure you discuss these with your bank and arrange for the correct amount to be received by All Occasions Management. Confirmation of Registration Registrations will be acknowledged in writing to the address nominated, with confirmation of requirements according to the registration form submitted. A tax invoice will be attached to this . A remittance advice form is included on the last page of the tax invoice. Cancellation Policy By completing and submitting this registration form, you are indicating your intention to attend the Conference and you will be liable for a cancellation fee if you are unable to attend. Registration cancellations must be sent in writing (mail, fax or ), to All Occasions Management. Registration cancellations received up to 30 days prior to the Conference will receive a full refund, less a $ handling fee. Registration cancellations received less than 30 days and up to seven days prior to the Conference will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be given for registration cancellations received within seven days of the Conference; however a substitute delegate may be nominated. Refunds from any deposits forwarded to hotels, tour companies or other related business will be at the discretion of the supplier. ACCOMMODATION All Occasions Management has made reservations at a number of local properties for you to access during your stay. To take advantage of these special Conference rates, please book through All Occasions Management during the registration process. Please note that prices may be subject to change. Accommodation Booking and Payment A credit card guarantee will be required to reserve your accommodation, regardless of the method of payment for your registration fees. These credit card details will be passed on to your hotel to guarantee your reservation. A reservation will not be made on your behalf without a valid credit card guarantee. It is at the discretion of the accommodation provider if this card is charged prior to arrival. If you have any queries regarding your accommodation booking, please contact the Conference Organisers, not the hotel. Late Arrivals Please notify All Occasions Management in writing if you will arrive at your hotel after 6.00pm on the day of arrival. Failure to do so may result in your room being released. A penalty may be charged should you not arrive on the date for which you have booked. In this instance, your subsequent night s accommodation will be cancelled and may be re-sold without notice. 12 GENERAL INFORMATION Airport Transfers Brisbane s Airtrain travels from Brisbane Airport to the CBD in 22 minutes, and operates from 5.00am pm daily. Fares can be purchased at the airport, at stations or online at A special discounted Airtrain fare has been arranged for conference delegates. Please refer to the Conference website for further information (you will need to print the letter to obtain the discounted rate). Car Parking Parking at the St Lucia campus is extremely limited between 9:30am - 12:30pm weekdays. To reduce parking and traffic pressures, the University encourages public transport, walking and cycling as alternatives to driving to UQ. Paid parking applies on the St Lucia Campus between 7am and 9pm. All-day flat rate daily fee is paid at pay & display machines. Pay & display tickets must be displayed on the dashboard with the details visible from outside the vehicle. Coin operated pay-and-display machines, are located at multiple points in All-day parking areas such as Sir William MacGregor Drive, the Keith Street carpark, Oval-6 Carpark (opposite the Athletics track), Rugby carpark (near the Boatshed roundabout), and the top deck of the Conifer Knoll carpark. The All-day pay & display permit is only valid in All-day zones, and may not be used in other parking areas, even during nonpeak periods. All-day parking areas at St Lucia are indicated on the parking guide maps by the colour green. Please refer to the UQ website at for further information and to download parking maps. Queensland Traffic Regulations apply 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. The speed limits on campus provide major safety benefits, and are enforced by Queensland Police. The University accepts no liability for damage to vehicles driven or parked on its property these activities are undertaken at the driver s/ owner s risk. Directions to St Lucia Campus By Car - The main entrance to the University is along Sir Fred Schonell Drive, located on Map 179 F2 of the UBD Brisbane "Refidex" Street Directory. From Brisbane's Central Business District, Sir Fred Schonell Drive is most easily accessed via Coronation Drive. By Ferry - The CityCat ferry is the most enjoyable and often the most convenient means of getting to the St Lucia campus. The campus CityCat terminal is located near the corner of Sir William MacGreggor Drive and Blair Drive. The Brisbane City Council provides a map of all CityCat stops (PDF). By Bus - There are two bus stations located at the University of Queensland - Chancellor's Place bus station and UQ lakes bus station. From Brisbane's Central Business District, the Brisbane City Council bus routes which run directly to the University of Queensland are the 109 (City to UQ lakes station (very close to Conference venue), fastest and most frequent service), the 412 (Express from City to Chancellor's place station) and the 411 (City to Chancellor's place station). Other BCC bus routes which stop here are the 402 (Toowong to Chancellor's Place station), the 428 (Indooroopilly to Chancellor's Place station), the 427 (Chapel Hill to Chancellor's Place station), the 432 (Kenmore to Chancellor's Place station), the 414 (West Taringa to Chancellor's Place station),the 209 (Carindale Interchange to UQ Lakes station), the 169 (Eight Mile Plains busway station to UQ Lakes station) and the 139 (Calamvale to UQ Lakes Station). The main bus stop on the St Lucia campus is located at Chancellor's Place near the J.D. Story building. The other bus station is located at UQ Lakes (near Field No.3 and Alumni teaching garden). For further information and timetables, visit By Train - The nearest train station to the St Lucia campus is Toowong, on the Citytrain Ipswich Line. From Toowong Station, cross Benson Street and catch a bus to UQ - the 402, 411, or 412. Alternatively the Dutton Park stop on the Beenleigh/Ferny Grove train line is situated near the Eleanor Schonell Bridge. It is possible to walk from this station or catch the 109 bus from Annerley road over the Eleanor Schonell bridge to the St Lucia campus. In Brisbane during July, the weather is generally dry and sunny with the average maximum temperature being 20 degrees Celsius, and the average minimum temperature being 9 degrees Celsius. Page 13 13

14 Local Transport Taxi ranks are located in front of the Domestic Terminal at Brisbane Airport, and near most major hotels in the CBD. A taxi from the airport to the CBD is approximately $40.00, and can be more during peak times. Black & White Cabs: Yellow Cabs: The public transport system in Brisbane consists of buses, trains and ferries. The Loop is a free and convenient bus service travelling in both directions around the CBD. The Loop operates every ten minutes from any red CBD bus stop, Monday to Friday from 7.00am to 5.50pm.
