3 May 15 17, MVD Leader Guide Introduction Camporees should be fun for Leaders too. The Camporee Committee thinks you will have the best time if we give you advance information so you can prepare your Unit, take advantage of advancement opportunities, and contribute to the success of the camporee for all Scouts. The focus of the Spring 2015 camporee is challenge. Climbing, bouldering, and geology will challenge Scouts at this incredible site in Paradise Valley. Here is a summary of the Camporee focus: Merit Badges/Electives: Three merit badges: Climbing, Geology, and History, and one Venture elective: Mountaineering provide advancement. Links to pre-work packets are available on the MVD Website (MVDMT.ORG). As at all camporees, Unit Leaders will have the opportunity to work with Scouts on core advancement related to camping and cooking skills. Climbing Safety: Scout leaders will be encouraged to take Climb Safety training, and all Scouts will be taught appropriate safe climbing and bouldering techniques. Fun: The elements of camporess that Scouts are saying they love like Tiki Torches, Drink Bars, and activities like Hawks are part of Spring camporee. Teamwork and Leadership: This camporee will have lots of that. SPLS will need to help their Units decide what to do when as well as work with leaders on safe climbing. Lots of scouts prizes will be available for Units or individuals Scouts who put in extra effort. Tiger, Wolf, and Bear rank Cub Scouts should not attend Camporees. When WEBELOS attendance at Camporees is well planned and the preparation steps are followed, it can be a really exciting event. When a Scout isn t yet ready for the experience, or prepared and connected to a Scout unit, it can have the unfortunate consequence that the boy doesn t want to stay in Scouts. Please take the procedures to heart for making your WEBELOS Camporee a success, and be sure and to contact Bill Otto (see contact section) with any question. For this Camporee, Cub Masters/Den Leaders should follow this procedure: 1. Registration a. WEBELOS must be registered through a Boy Scout Unit.

6 May 15 17, b. Payment for Camporee is to the Boy Scout Unit. The Boy Scout unit will pay for the WEBELOS at camporee. c. Cost for WEBELOS is $5.00, and WEBELOS Parents is $ Preparation a.
