1 Revised Highland Games Chehaw Council Boy Scouts of America Albany, Georgia
2 DATES: April 13 th April 15 th April 20 th April 22 nd What is Baloo Family Camp-out? Baloo Family Camp-out is a 2 night camp-out held at Camp Osborn for all registered Cub Scouts and their families. This includes Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelo Scouts. This is a family chosen activity schedule camp-out so they can interact with Scouts from a variety of units and families may attend any session they choose with or without their unit. In accordance to BSA Safety & Child Protection rules, only Webelo Scouts may attend with an adult that isn t their parent or legal guardian under the two deep leadership guidelines. What will we do? The activities are geared towards Academic & Sports Awards found in the Cub Scout Academic & Sports Awards Book (2009 printing) for each rank. There will be opportunities to earn belt loops and pins as well as to participate in just plain fun activities. This is an opportunity for Cub Scouts to learn some additional camping skills because this is the camp-out where the units cook their meals and practice basic camping skills in a not-to-primitive location. The newly crossed-over Bears and Webelos should use this opportunity to complete the outdoor cooking requirements in their handbooks. If all of the Scouts in your unit participate in the meal planning and duty roster this helps them complete some requirements found in all of their new handbooks. Campsites Campsites will be assigned based upon the number of people attending with each unit. No campsites will be reserved in advance nor will the campsite locations be given out until check-in. If your unit has special requirements such as a site with some tents provided, handicap attendees, health issues requiring electricity, etc please advise the council of that in writing when you turn in your unit s registration or contact the Camp Director via so that can be taken into consideration when assigning campsites. This camp will operate under the guidelines of Cub Scout Family Camp standards , 2010 printing. 2
3 Registration Due by: April 2 nd for April 13 th 15 th April 9 th for April 20 th April 22 nd All units should pre-register to attend so the staff can schedule properly for your total enjoyment, however if you have some Scouts that don t know if they ll be able to attend until that day, they may come and bring the completed registration form and fees with them to camp. We request that units plan ahead and send the applications to the council before the deadline. Units that let us know they are coming before the deadline yet bring all of their registrations to the camp to turn in will be required to check in as a group and the Cubmaster will remain in the headquarters building until the registrations have been entered into the spreadsheet and verified. This will avoid confusion over the numbers and ensure a smooth running camp. Don t forget to turn in your Tour Permit when you turn in your registrations to the Council. Check-in Check-in will start at 4:00 PM on Friday and continue until 7:30 PM at the Headquarters Building Office. Each Scout will be checked-in by their parent or the person responsible for them, not as a group by a Leader. No unit will be given their campsite location without checking in first. Parking for check-in is in the Parking Lot on the left side of the entrance road where the fence is located. Parking is permitted only in the designated parking lots. (Only staff members are permitted to park at HQ or the Dining Hall during check-in.) Meals Each unit will provide their own meals prepared in their campsite. Please plan on enough food for your unit and add 25% more to what you think you will need. Needing bread or milk is not an acceptable reason to leave camp. Remember to post your Duty Rosters and include the Scouts in the meal planning, preparation, and clean-up. As Lord Baden-Powell said Never do for a boy what he can do for himself. The Trading Post will have lunches available for sale on Saturday with hot dogs and chips for sale along with a host of snacks and other treats. 3
