INTRODUCTION The Internatinal Cuncil n Mnuments and Sites defines Cultural Heritage as: [An] expressin f the ways f living develped by a cmmunity and passed n frm generatin t generatin, including custms, practices, places, bjects, artistic expressins and values. Cultural Heritage is ften expressed as either Intangible r Tangible Cultural Heritage. (ICOMOS, 2002). At H we believe that: The wrld s cultural heritage is essentially a nn-renewable resurce that, when prperly managed, benefits cmmunities bth scially (identity, cultural diversity) and ecnmically (sustainable develpment, jb creatin). The recgnitin, safeguarding and respect f the cultural characteristics f all peple are fundatins fr a mdern egalitarian, inclusive sciety. The cst f lsing parts f ur heritage is incalculable. 2 Learning utcmes This field schl is an intrductin t heritage management, raising students's awareness f the main tpics in this field. By the end f this summer prgram, any attendant will a) be able t basically assess the services ffered at any heritage site and understand the key issues in its management. b) have a basic understanding f the key tpics in heritage management. c) have visited numerus sites all ver mainland Greece (mainly in Arglid, Attica and Crinthia), learning much abut Greek heritage and histry. COURSE OBJECTIVES This field schl will immerse students t a brad range f tpics in heritage management in a histric setting. Students will be prvided with hands-n nsite instructin and questinnaires that they will have t fill fr every site they visit abut the quality f management f each experience. At the end they will submit their ntes, answered questinnaires and prpsals in prtfli frmat t be assessed. PREREQUISITES There are n prerequisites fr this field schl thugh sme familiarity with Eurpean and Greek histry is a plus. Students shuld be aware that this is an archaelgical prject and wrk will be dne mstly in the utdrs. Weather cnditins, therefre, will have an impact n wrk and students shuld cme prepare t either ht and dry r rainy cnditins. Msquites are cmmn in many parts f Greece and students shuld be able t have enugh prtectin fr their sleep. There is n particular cntagius disease that is endemic t Greece. Hwever yu shuld make sure that yu are in gd health and that yu have adequately warned the curse instructrs abut any dietary, health related, r medicatin related issues yu may have. Failure t d s may lead t yur expulsin frm the prject. Students are encuraged t als have with them a camera (r a gd phne r tablet camera), and a wrd prcessing device such as tablet r persnal cmputer. GRADING MATRIX up t 5000-wrd Prtfli - 60%

3 Student perfrmance will be graded primarily n demnstrated quality f the final submitted prtfli f cmpleted questinnaires (50%), recmmendatins and ntes f each experience (50%). Individual Presentatin 40% Each student will be expected t prepare a unique presentatin fr ne f the experiences in the schedule. The presentatin will be judged accrding t a) research quality and accuracy f the data presented (40%), b) delivery style, i.e.: structure quality f the presentatin, ease f presentatin, engagement with the audience, raising interest and answering questins (30%), c) pwer-pint presentatin submitted nline (30%) thugh nt presented there. The pwer-pint presentatin and the ntes f the curse cnvenr will be available t yur university fr mderatin. DISCLAIMER PLEASE READ CAREFULLY Archaelgical field wrk invlves physical wrk in the utdrs. During the day, temperatures under the shadw fluctuate between F. Hwever, under the sun they may reach Humidity is relatively medium and sme msquites and/r flies may be clse t the area. Students will all be met at the htel in the Eleusis centre n May 21. There is a Prastiacs, r Suburban Rail, and a metr, as well as a cmbinatin f buses bth ging t the centre f Eleusis frm the airprt. Taxis t the centre cst n mre than 70 eurs frm 6am t 1159 pm. An emergency lcal cell phne number will be prvided t all enrlled students. This field schl will cnclude n Friday, 16th f June. 4 ACCOMMODATIONS Students will be hused in basic accmmdatin in Elefsina and Tl. Breakfast, ne student meal and a sandwich r mre will be catered per day. Fd in Greece is rich with vegetables and fruits. Sme diets may be accmmdated but nt all. Please cnsult with the prject administratr if yu have special dietary needs.
