Principal's Highlights Wengert Elementary, Dual Language Model offers Spanish/English languages to students in K-5 grades in a professional learning community in which parents, students and staff work collaboratively. Five Star Ranking: CCSD Growth Model ranked Wengert ES as a 5-Star school on a scale of 1-5 stars AYP: Wengert students demonstrated proficiency in reading and mathematics as measured by NCLB Assessment. STPT: Teachers collaborated weekly to assess students' needs and plan instructional activities to meet target goals. Safety Officers: Anti-bullying and conflict resolution club of students serving as officers. Reading Academy Initiative: Students received additional reading intervention tutorial assistance to achieve reading mastery. Recognition: Trimester award assembly, VIP; movie premier show, Gotcha Mall, awards on 7 habits of successful students. Objective(s): Increase the number of proficient fifth grade students as measured by the Nevada Writing Proficiency Exam. Specific improvement will be made in applying writing conventions of spelling, punctuation, capitalization and grammar. Wengert Paw Prints is sent bi-monthly and contains information about school news, student achievement and school activities. Monthly Second Cup of Coffee meetings are held with parents to provide information, discuss and collaborate about instruction and school-wide activities. During monthly Parent Involvement Day, parents are invited to join the students in the classroom the last hour of the instructional day, during which lessons and strategies to address school improvement academic goals such as reading comprehension, writing process and mathematical problems are shared and discussed as a family. Wengert Family Auxiliary (WFA) serve as members of advisory groups, committees and parent/staff organizations. WFA establishes goals and makes decisions regarding the Learning Improvement Team, School Safety/Security, Library Book Fair and School Generated Funds.
