1 Newsletter/Boletín Escolar September 17/Septiembre 17 From Mrs. Bond Dear families, Next week on October 4th we will have school photos! Our hope is that every innovator will bring his uniform with pride that day. It is also at the same time as the school census day, a very important day for our school. Our hope is that 100% of our students will be in school because that will help ensure that KIA has a healthy budget for the school year. We also want everyone to be here for your photos! On October 7 we will have Innovation Day! I hope my new daughter, Malia, makes an appearance around 11am, so I hope to see them all there! Finally, I wanted to tell all of you that I will continue my maternity leave on Wednesday this year. That means if you look for me on a Wednesday, I will not be at school, but I'll probably be home with my daughter. Thanks for your support! Please send any orders the day of and the child s teacher will hand these to the photographer. Also, please note that students must be in full uniform for picture day. Back to School Afternoon Thank you to all families that attended Back to School Afternoon this past Friday & Monday It was wonderful to see so many of you in your child s classroom getting to know the teachers, systems, and goals for the school year. As a school, 89% of families attended. Our goal is that 100% are there. The grade with the highest participation was Kinder with 97 %, followed by First and Third grade with 94%, and finally Second grade with 83%. The top performing classes in the school where Cal, Yale, USC, UCLA, and Emerson with 100% of families present. As stated in the Commitment to Excellence, it is extremely important that you attend these meetings. If you were unable to attend, reach out to your child s teacher as soon as possible. Innovation Day - Saturday, October 7th! Innovation Day will take place on Saturday, October 7th from Please save cardboard, art supplies, and recycled materials and toys for our Creation Station. We also need cases of bottled water donated to keep our families hydrated. You can make your own games out of recycled materials to bring for everyone to play. Tickets will cost $5 for 20 tickets, and you can use tickets to play games or to innovate your own cardboard creation! We will also have food available, so bring cash and a hungry belly. Nuestra esperanza es que cada innovador traiga su uniforme con orgullo ese día. Es también al mismo tiempo que el día de censo escolar, un día muy importante para nuestra escuela. Nuestra esperanza es que el 100% de nuestros estudiantes estén en la escuela porque eso ayudará a asegurar que KIA tenga un presupuesto saludable para el año escolar También queremos que todos esten aquí para sus fotos! El 7 de octubre tendremos el Día de la Innovación! Espero que mi nueva hija, Malia, haga una aparición en torno a las 11 am, así que espero verlos a todos allí! 5 September 28, 2017 Dear Parent/Guardian(s), In compliance with federal law (No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 and Every Student Succeeds Act), you may request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child s paraprofessional(s) and teachers(s). You may request information regarding the professional qualifications of the student s classroom teacher, including at a minimum, the following: Whether the teacher has met State qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subjects areas in which the teacher provides instruction. Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which State qualification or licensing criteria have been waived. The baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree. Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications. Federal law requires that schools receiving Title I funds hire highly qualified teachers. KIPP Iluminar Academy aims to employ as many certificated personnel as possible according to the California Department of Education requirements. Should there be any teachers who do not currently meet NCLB/ESSA requirements, be assured that school administration is working with these teachers to create a professional development plan to ensure their compliance within the next few months.
