Welcome students to our 2016-2017 school year. Teachers and staff are excited and ready for the new school year to start.

1 Welcome students to our school year. Teachers and staff are excited and ready for the new school year to start. We will do our best to challenge our students to learn and think challenging them to stretch themselves through problem solving tasks. We are looking forward to seeing you all on August 8 th! ~ Mrs. Johnson ~ REMINDERS: WELCOME NEW TEACHERS AND STAFF!! School starts Monday, August 8 th Mrs. Norma Esparza 1 st Grade Ms. Kim Hand Special Education Ms. Tina Rozycki Paraprofessional School hours are 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We ask that you have your child to school on time and do not check out early unless absolutely necessary. The 1 st bell will ring at 7:55 a.m. and tardy bell at 8:00 a.m. Early release days Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. We will have early release at 1:00 p.m. first three (3) days of school, August 8 th, August 9 th, and August 10 th. Every Wednesday the remainder of the year will be 1:00 p.m. dismissal. Open House/Meet-the-Teacher Night Open House/Meet-the-Teacher Night will be Thursday, August 4 th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Please come meet our teachers and see your classroom. Parent Involvement Group Our parent group is looking for new members! They do many great things to help our students. The first meeting will be Wednesday, August 17 th at 6:30 p.m. in the Library. 8 th Grade Parent/Student Meeting We are pleased to begin a new school year with you! We will have our first Parent/Student Meeting on Thursday, August 4 th at 6:00 p.m. after Open House in the Library. Your attendance is highly encouraged!! 2 Sports Football/Volleyball Practice will start on Monday, August 15 th. Practice is after school from 3:00 p.m. 4:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. An activity bus will run on those days, leaving the school at 4:30 p.m. Games will be on Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m. Specific game dates to come soon! On games days there will be no activity bus. PE Grades 6 th 8 th will be required to dress out for PE. Students will be required to provide their own gym bottoms and closed toed shoes. Students will be required to purchase a uniform shirt from the school. Details on the cost of the shirt will be sent home at a later date. Parent Information Packet On the first day of school your child will be bringing home a packet. In the packet you will find the following forms: Emergency Contact Form Lunch Application Parent Signature Forms Sheet It is very important that these forms be completed, signed and returned ASAP to the school office. School Attendance Regular school attendance is very important for your child s academic growth. We encourage you to send your child to school regularly, on time, and well rested so they have a fair chance to learn. Attendance policies will be enforced as needed. Our page stays updated with current information. Look and see what our students are doing through-out the year. Dress Code The District encourages students to take pride in their attire as it relates to the school setting and see school as a work place. It is the responsibility of parents to determine the appropriate dress for their student. However, students should not wear apparel that will distract the learning process. Students should dress in a manner that is appropriate for the school setting, in addition to the following guidelines, taking into consideration the educational environment, safety, health and welfare of self and others. Only tailored shorts and skirts that are hemmed, or mid-thigh or at least five (5) inch inseam. Bare midriffs, bike shorts/pants or any spandex type bottoms, muscle shirts, net shirts without an undershirt, undergarments that show, shorts with split-outs of one (1) inch or more, pajama bottoms, halter tops and spaghetti straps are not acceptable. If spandex type bottoms are worn, a blouse/shirt MUST expend long enough to cover the buttocks. Pants or shorts that are ripped or have holes should not be worn to school. All blouses/shirts must be long enough to be tucked in and stay in waistbands. Bare skin around the waist when students sit and or stretch their arms should not be seen. 2

3 Bare feet are never acceptable. In the interests of student safety, shoes must be worn at all times. Closed shoes are to be worn for any type of physical activity. Rubber flip flops are not safe and are not acceptable. Jewelry shall not be worn if it presents a safety hazard or learning distraction to self and/or others. Face piercing is not permitted. Profane or defamatory writing on clothing or jewelry is not acceptable. Obscene language or symbols, or symbols of drugs, sex, tobacco or alcohol on clothing are expressly prohibited. No bandannas of any color, size or shape are to be worn or carried or displayed in any classroom, school property, or at any school activity. This also includes simulations of anything representing colors. Gang-related personalization is not permitted on items of clothing or on one s person. No hats, caps or other head garments will be allowed at school except for properly approved occupational safety headgear required for special classes or on special hat days or spirit days in conjunction with announced school activities. However, during these activities, cap or hat days, hats will not be worn in buildings. 6 Deportes Futbol/Voleibol Las practicas comenzaran el Lunes, 15 de Agosto. Las practicas sera despues de clases de las 3:00 p.m. 4:30 p.m. los Lunes, Martes y Miercoles. Habra un camion de actividades en esos dias, saliendo de la escuela a las 4:30 p.m. Los juegos seran los Miercoles a las 2:00 p.m. Fechas especificas de los juegos vendran pronto! En los dias de juegos, no habra camion de actividades. Educacion Fisica (PE) Se va a requerir que los grados del 6 8 se cambien para PE. Los estudiantes tendrán que proporcionar sus propios shorts de gimnasia y zapatos cerrados. Se va a requerir que los estudiantes compren una camiseta de uniforme de la escuela. Los detalles sobre el coste de la camiseta serán enviados a casa en una fecha posterior. Paquete de Informacion a los Padres El primer dia de clases su hijo traera a casa un paquete. Mire y vea lo que nuestros Estudiantes están haciendo a través del año Dress Code El Distrito anima a los estudiantes a sentirse orgullosos de su atuendo y su relación con el entorno escolar y ver la escuela como un "lugar de trabajo". Es responsabilidad de los padres para determinar la vestimenta adecuada para su hijo. Sin embargo, los estudiantes no deben usar ropa que distraiga el proceso de aprendizaje. Los estudiantes deben vestir de una manera que sea apropiada para el entorno escolar, además de las siguientes directrices, teniendo en cuenta el entorno educativo, la seguridad, la salud y el bienestar de sí mismo y otros. Sólomente shorts y faldas que tengan bastilla, o la mitad del muslo o por lo menos cinco (5) pulgadas entrepierna. Estomago descubierto, shorts/pantalones de ciclista o cualquier otro tipo spandex, camisetas sin mangas, camisas de malla sin una camiseta abajo, ropa interior que se vea, shorts con aperturas de una (1) pulgada o más, pantalónes de pijama, blusas sin espalda y de tirantes no son aceptable. Si se usan los shorts/pantalones de tipo spandex, una blusa/camisa DEBE extenderse lo suficiente para cubrir las asentaderas. Los patalones o shorts que están rotos o que tengan agujeros no deben ser usados a la escuela. 6

7 Todas las blusas/camisas deben ser lo suficientemente largas para ser fajadas y permanecer en las pretinas. La piel desnuda alrededor de la cintura cuando los estudiantes se sientan y sus brazos se estiran no debe ser vista. Los pies descalzos no son aceptables. En el interes de la seguridad de los estudiantes, los zapatos deben ser usados en todo momento. Zapatos cerrados deben ser usados para cualquier tipo de actividad física. Las chanclas de plastico no son seguras y no son aceptables. La joyería no deberá usarse si presenta un peligro para la seguridad o una distracción para el aprendizaje a sí mismo y/o para otros. No se permite la perforación de la cara. Escritura profana o difamatoria escritura en la ropa o joyería no es aceptable. Lenguaje obsceno o símbolos, o símbolos de drogas, de sexo, de alcohol o de tabaco en la ropa están expresamente prohibidas. Ningun pañuelo de cualquier color, tamaño o forma debe ser usado o llevado o mostrado en cualquier salon, propiedad de la escuela o en cualquier actividad escolar.
