2 WELCOME To the SLCDA Class of 2015 Included in this packet is important information you will need to prepare for SLCDA. Without this information you will not be able to attend. IMMEDIATE TASKS: 1. your instructor the following information within three days: A phone number where voic can be accepted. A valid address one checked regularly 2. Your transportation plans: Due June 30 All applicants must provide arrival and departure information Specify your mode of transportation for arrival + departure If driving: Name of driver, for drop-off and pick-up Driver s cell phone number and If flying: Airline and flight number for arrival and departure Schedule flights to Arrive before 2:30 p.m., Sunday July 19 Depart after 2 p.m., Saturday July 25.

3 TRANSPORTATION DRIVING: Pick-up and drop-off at the National Museum of the Marine Corps (NMMC) Students are not authorized to drive themselves FLYING All flights must arrive at DCA Flight information must be provided to academy point of contact Arrival flights must be before 2:30 p.m., Sunday July 19 A uniformed Marine will be waiting in the baggage claim area Marine will lead you to SLCDA shuttle vans Shuttles for SLCDA will depart for the NMMC regularly ARRIVAL AT NMMC Students must check in at the trailers located at the northwest portion of the Museum parking lot between 12 p.m. and 3:45 p.m, Sunday July 19. The first meal is not provided until the evening of July 19 The last meal will be provided the morning of July 25 COMMUNICATIONS In case of emergency parents and guardians can call the duty officers at (703) or (703) These numbers are manned 24-hours a day. 4 RULES 1. Students will obey all direct orders from SLCDA staff and Marines 2. Students are not authorized to leave berthing area without escort 3. Proper civilian attire will be worn at all times 4. No food in the squad bays 5. Un-assigned squad bays are off-limits 6. Students are restricted to the squad bay after 2159 hours 7. Squad bays will be kept neat & orderly, by Marine Corps standards 8. No weapons of any kind 9. USE OF ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, OR ILLEGAL DRUGS IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN PACKING LIST REQUIRED 1. Appropriate black athletic shorts (4 pairs) 2. Athletic socks (10-12 pairs) 3. Undergarments (10-12 pairs) 4. Towels (2-3) 5. Travel-sized toiletries and shower shoes 6. Running shoes 7. Wrist watch 8. 3 sets of appropriate civilian attire including: At least 1 pair of long khaki pants At least 1 navy blue polo shirt One pair long pants suitable for outdoor work 9. Government or school issued photo ID RECOMMENDED Pair of boots Bug spray (work/hiking) Sunglasses Sunscreen Camera * * DO NOT BRING * Excessive amounts of money or other items not easily replaced Pillow, or other bedding Multiple bags. Limit is one checked bag and one carry on, regardless if student is flying or driving

5 DRESS CODE APROPRIATE ATTIRE Is neat, clean, and commensurate with good taste. Clothes should be conservative in nature. You are attending this summer program to focus on leadership and character development, present yourself accordingly. The temperatures in Quantico, VA, during July can exceed 100 of, with possible showers and high humidity. Consider breathable and wetwicking clothing. Shorts or skirts must be long enough to allow the wearers fingertips to extend beyond the bottom edge of the garment. Closed toed comfortable shoes are required for daily events (i.e. open toed shoes, slingbacks, sandals, and flip flops not acceptable, except in the dormitory). INNAPROPRIATE ATTIRE These examples of inappropriate clothing are not all inclusive, but they represent dress which is considered to not be in keeping with the spirit and intent of the Summer Leadership and Character Development Academy and therefore are not permitted: Clothing with printing, insignia or pictures which are sexually or violently offensive, obscene or suggestive in nature; promote illegal activities; depict derogatory social, religious, racial or ethnic messages; or present an impression contrary to the good order and discipline of the armed forces and the United States Marine Corps. Clothing torn or tattered Strapless shirts, halter tops, or tank tops Shirts that are low cut or excessively tight or expose undergarments (bras included) See-through clothing Excessively baggy pants Leggings are to be worn only as undergarments
