1 OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY EXTENSION June 1, 2015 Dear 4-H Camper, Our Everyday Heroes, Everyday People is about to begin and we re very glad you have decided to join us! The Madison County Camp Counselors and Adult Staff have been working since January to develop a fun and exciting camp for this year! Enclosed in this letter are various items that campers and parents/legal guardians will need to review before coming to camp. Please do this even if you have been to camp before because some things may have changed since last year and you will want to be informed. Please note your camper will not be allowed to bring a cell phone or camera to camp. If your child has a cell phone, you will be called to come and pick up your child from camp with no refunds. If your child is planning on taking our photography class, please bring a disposable camera with their name written on it and turn it into a staff member at registration. We will pass out the cameras at the time of the workshop. There will be a table set up during check-in for those campers who would like to purchase a camp picture for $10. No electronics devices will be permitted to be kept at camp by campers or counselors. These devices include cell phones, ipods, ipads, computers, cameras, etc. This is a Camp Clifton rule. FULL PARTICIPATION REQUIRED: As stated on the camp registration form, all campers will be required to stay on the campgrounds for the duration of camp unless they are registered in a program conducted through the camp. Any questions on this policy should be directed to the Extension Office. When you arrive at camp, check-in will be in the Camp Lodge at the registration table. Your cabin, tribe, and Pre-Paid Wednesday Workshop assignments are enclosed on the Master Camp list. Just find your name and read across for your personal information. Every effort has been made to assign cabin "buddies" as requested. Tribes are "mixed-up" in order for campers to become acquainted with others throughout the week. AFTER you have registered at the Lodge, visit the Camp Bank, turn in medicine (if necessary), pick up your name badge and Camp Program, and then you may move into your cabin. 2 MEDICINE: If you are bringing medicine to camp that you need to take during these few days, you MUST give the medicine to the Camp Nurse during registration. Please have the medicine clearly labeled with the camper s name. If it is prescription medicine, please leave the label on the medicine container. Have your medicine ready to turn in and NOT packed in your suitcase. All medicines of any type MUST be kept with the Camp Nurse. CAMP PICTURE: The camp picture will be taken on our first day at camp. Only those campers who have paid for a picture will receive one. However, every camper will be in the picture. Cost of the picture is $10.00 and should have been ordered on your camp registration form. If not, there will be a camp picture table for you to order one at registration. CAMP BANK: A Camp Bank will again be available this year for campers to deposit and withdraw their money. The camp Dean of Women handles this money for you while at camp. Keeping your money in the Camp Bank is optional, but very handy and safe. CAMP CANTEEN: Candy, pop, chips, pretzels, etc. are available for purchase. Bring extra money if you plan to purchase any of these items. The Canteen will be open various times during the camp for campers to enjoy. $20 is more than enough. Also, please bring money in smaller denominations such as $1 and $5. SWIM TEST: Swim test will be given on the first day of camp during Camp Registration. This is only necessary for those wanting to jump off the diving board. CAMP RULES: Dress code has been enclosed for you and your parents/legal guardians to review. Please remember, these rules were made to help us ensure that you have a SAFE and FUN time while at camp. 3 CAMPER CHECK LIST WHAT TO BRING TO CAMP: Here are the essentials you will want to bring for camp. Put your name on everything possible with a permanent laundry marker. While you pack, set this list near by and check off items as you go. OPTIONAL: name on it!) Towels/Wash Cloths Sheets, Blankets, pillow and\or sleeping bag Casual Clothes (some cool & warm, don't forget long pants too; a sweatshirt may also be needed for cool nights) Meal Theme Outfits (emphasis is being placed on the Safari Adventure Theme Dress-Up Dinner.) Good walking shoes (2 pair) Rain Coat or Slicker (umbrellas tend to get lost) Bathing Suit & towel Insect Repellant Plastic Bag or Large Garbage bag (for dirty & wet clothes) Personal Toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.) Flashlight (don t forget to check the batteries!) Stationery & stamps and a writing pen Camera (Only for the photography class! Make sure it is the disposable type and be sure to write your Money for the Camp Canteen ($20 is MORE than enough to purchase snacks, drinks, etc.) WHAT NOT TO BRING: Pocket Knife Firearms Alcoholic Beverages Radios/iPods Anything Valuable (jewelry, watches, etc.) Shaving Cream Camera Firecrackers Lighters/matches Balloons & squirt guns (no water fights!) Drugs (other than those listed on the health history form) Food & Pop Cell Phones Any electronics PERSONAL CELL PHONES AND/OR BEEPERS are NOT permitted at 4-H Camp. To maintain the camping spirit, please leave them at home or your child will be sent home! Dress Code for Campers If any of the following things are seen, campers will be asked to change. 1. No shorts, skorts, or skirts shorter then fingertip length. 2. No ripped or cut-off shorts, short shorts. 3. No t-shirts or tops with offensive slogans, beer or tobacco ads or other messages in bad taste. 4. No tube tops or bare midriff tops and similar items. 5. No spaghetti strap clothing or halter tops. 6. No underwear may show (bras under extra narrow straps or briefs/thongs above waistbands). 7. No hats/caps may be worn inside the dining hall (they are ok for outdoor activities.) 8. Shoes, sandals and shirts must be worn at all times. Be sure they are comfortable!! 9. No leggings worn as pants.

4 NOTES ON PACKING FOR PARENTS Living out of a suitcase is a new experience for most campers. Space is limited in the cabins so getting organized at home can make living at camp a lot easier. Here are some ideas: 1. Pack clothes in matched sets. Pants and tops for each day right together. This saves rummaging through the suitcase. 2. Pack a plastic garbage bag and explain that all dirty clothes can go in there, and this will keep the clean clothes clean. 3. We walk to the shower at camp. Pack "shower items" carefully together and this will save a lot of forgotten items back at the cabin. A large plastic laundry basket is ideal. Pack smaller items, toothbrush, soap, etc. in a separate plastic bag or box. IMPORTANT: Do not send anything in glass! 4. Go over with your camper what everything looks like, and label it with their name or initials. You would be surprised at the many items left at camp each year because the camper does not recognize it. 5. It is NOT NECESSARY or ADVISABLE to bring a suitcase or trunk that locks. Nine out of ten times the camper loses or locks the key in the suitcase and we have to break the lock to open it. If a camper feels they have something that valuable, they should leave it at home. 6. CAMPERS DO NOT NEED MUCH MONEY AT CAMP! Snacks ($1.00 & up) are optional. It is wise to send dollar bills and change as opposed to a $20 bill. The Camp Bank will be open when the Canteen is open for your child to get snacks. 7. Contrary to what your camper may tell you, they will NOT "starve to death" if they don't bring some food from home. The biggest problem with any snack is that once it is opened (e.g. cookies, pretzels, etc.), the bags don't close very well. Crumbs get all over the cabin, in the suitcases, in the beds, and then ants and mice have a picnic too. POP IS NOT PERMITTED IN THE CABINS, and will be limited to one can per camper during Canteen hours. High energy caffeinated drinks ARE NOT PERMITTED at the 4-H Camp. 8. Shoes are a must. There is a lot of walking and a lot of gravel to walk over at camp. Flip flops and open toe sandals are hard to walk in on the trails and over the gravel. Two pairs of tennis shoes are the best things for camp. Please do not send new shoes! Our bandage supply will only last so long. 9. One more reminder about medicine. If it is a prescription medicine, please leave the label on the medicine. Please be sure that you indicate proper dosage on the health form and that you speak with the Camp Nurse during check-in about any medicines to be taken by the camper. 10. PLEASE do not pack, or encourage/allow your child to pack, anything (ie. Shaving cream, squirt guns, etc.) that could be used to disrupt camp. What might be thought of as a fun thing often turns into a cruel prank that hurts feelings, if not more. Think about it, would you allow your child to take such things to school? If not, then why at camp? We appreciate your help and support with this. 11. No cell phones and/or cameras.

All campers must be checked in by 4:30 PM. Late arrivals must notify the Extension Office immediately. Departure Time: 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 Arrangements must be made to pick up all campers at 10:00 AM. There will not be anyone left at camp after this time. Restricted release and/or early release forms are available if a child is to be released to a specific individual and/or early. Contact the Extension office for these forms PRIOR to coming to camp. Full participation required - Please do not come to camp to take your child somewhere and then plan on returning. No Visitors - Please do not come to visit anyone at camp. Directions to Camp: Take route 42 South to Cedarville. Turn right at the junction of Rt. 42 & 72. Follow Rt. 72 to Clifton. Turn left on Clifton Road. (You will see a sign to 4-H Camp Clifton). Follow this road one mile, turn right at the camp entrance. It is approximately a 35 minute drive from London. Cancellation: If for any reason a member has registered for camp and is not able to go, please contact the Extension Office immediately so that we will not expect them to arrive. Refund Policy: No refund will be given after June 1, 2015 without a written Doctor s excuse. No refund or partial refund can be made to campers who have arrived at camp and leave for any reason during camp. No refunds will be made to a camper who does not notify us of cancellation and does not come to camp. Please don't hesitate to call our office if you have any questions or concerns about camp. 6 OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY EXTENSION Arrival Procedures: Park and bring all papers, medicines to the Lodge. You can leave your camper s belongings in the vehicle for now. Get in line to register, turn in your completed forms, meet the nurse, and receive your child s cabin assignment. No cell phones are permitted with campers. Your child will be sent home without a camp refund. Every camper will meet the camp nurse at check-in regardless if they are turning in medicines or not. You will hand in your Health Form at this time. At that time, parents can share about their camper s medicine needs and/or special health care concerns. You will need to give any medications, over the counter and prescription, to the nurse at check-in. Please have these available, not packed in your child s suitcase. \ Every medicine of any kind (including Tylenol, Pepto-Bismol, etc.) must be given to the nurse. All prescription medicine must have the pharmacy label attached with camper name, dosage, etc. Medicine/prescriptions should be current and not expired and in the original packaging. Camp Bank is available for campers to deposit and withdraw their money. Camp bank is optional, but very handy and safe. Have your deposit ready at check-in. Take your child and their belongings to his/her cabin after you have checked in at the Lodge. Sign your camper in at their cabin with his/her counselor. Feel free to help them make their bed and meet their cabin buddies. Please get acquainted with your child s counselors and give them any information that you feel they should know. Check-in can take a while...so please plan enough time to get your camper settled and be patient as we give every camper the attention they deserve. Dismissal Procedures Following the closing ceremony, escort your camper to their cabin to gather their items. Check the clotheslines outside the cabins and Lost and Found! Sign your camper out at the cabin. Those completing a Restricted Release form will have to come to the Boar s Nest and show ID before signing the camper out.
