2 TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 21, 2018 TOO MUCH INFORMATION! There is a common expression: Too much information! We usually use it when people tell us details about their lives that we don t want or need to know. Today, when James and John ask Jesus a simple question, making their request for places of honor in the kingdom, a simple answer might have been in order. Instead, as he often does, Jesus answers a question with a question; today it s about drinking the cup of suffering. Then, once the others are indignant over James and John s outrageous request, he proceeds to give them what may have been too much information for followers who were simply interested in the pursuit of glory. But this information, though it can sometimes seem too much for us, is essential for our lives as disciples. In Isaiah, in Hebrews, and in Mark today, we learn this information. It is in suffering, in weakness, in self-giving service to others, that we come to understand the kingdom. It is the information we need to find our place and come to be honored in the reign of God. That consecrated religious men and women may bestir themselves, and be present among the poor, the marginalized, and those who have no voice. NEW PARISH OFFICE BUILDING The Riverbank City Planning Commission recently approved the proposed Parish Office Building concept. Presently, the design and drawings will be further developed with intent to obtain Building Permit approval by the end of Winter, so construction may begin in Spring A board, depicting the building front view with materials and colors, is on display in the Church vestibule. MANDATORY MEETING We will be having a mandatory meeting for all coordinators, leaders, sub-coordinators, secretaries, and treasurers of all our ministries, committees and sub-committees of our Parish, on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 7:00 P.M., in the Church. It is very important that the coordinators attend. It is also open to any volunteer that would like to attend. RECOMMISSION ALL LECTORS, COMMENTATORS, AND EXTRA-ORDINARY MINISTERS OF COMMUNION In our continuing effort to improve our Sunday Liturgy, the clergy calls All Lectors, Commentators, and Extraordinary Ministers of Communion, to an important training on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 6:30 P.M., in the Church. Also, we would like to extend the invitation to any Parishioner that would like to be part of this Ministry. It is important to attend this Annual Recommissioning Meeting, at which we will be presenting the norms of the Ministry to be practiced by all Ministers. We will be having sign-ups for this Ministry after each Mass on the weekend of November 3rd and 4th. The Commissioning will be on the weekend of December 1st and 2nd, during each Mass. If you are unable to attend, please call Father Misael Avila or Monsignor Bonifacio Baldonado, otherwise, your name will not be included in the Servers Schedule. 5 VIGÉSIMO NOVENO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO 21 DE OCTUBRE DEL 2018 DEMASIADA INFORMACIÓN PARA MI GUSTO Existe una expresión de uso corriente: Demasiada información para mi gusto. Generalmente decimos esto cuando alguien nos da detalles sobre su vida que no deseamos o no necesitamos saber. Hoy, cuando Santiago y Juan le hacen una pregunta simple a Jesús y le piden ocupar lugares de honor en el Reino, Jesús podría haberles dado una respuesta simple. Pero, como suele hacerlo, responde una pregunta con otra pregunta, en este caso se trata de beber el cáliz del sufrimiento. Luego, cuando los demás se indignan contra el atrevido pedido de Santiago y Juan, Jesús les dice algo que puede haber sido demasiada información para el gusto de los seguidores, quienes sólo estaban interesados en alcanzar la gloria. Pero esta información, aunque algunas veces pueda parecer demasiada para nuestro gusto, es vital para nuestras vidas como discípulos. Hoy en Isaías, en hebreos y en Marcos, conocemos esta información: sólo mediante el sufrimiento, la debilidad y el servicio generoso a los demás comprenderemos el Reino. EDIFICIO DE LA NUEVA OFICINA PARROQUIAL La Comisión de Planificación de la Ciudad de Riverbank recientemente aprobó el concepto propuesto del Edificio de la Oficina Parroquial. En la actualidad, el diseño y los dibujos se desarrollarán aún más con la intención de obtener la aprobación del Permiso de Construcción para fines del invierno, para que la construcción pueda comenzar en la primavera de En el vestíbulo de la Iglesia se exhibe una cartulina que representa la vista de enfrente del Edificio con materiales y colores.
