3 SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT FEBRUARY 25, 2018 Dear Parishioners and friends, Peace and blessings! Hope you are all having a blessed Lent and sticking with your promises. Prayer and penance always become the foundation of this holy season. Our parish Penance Service will be Monday, March 5 th at 7:00pm. There will be a number of priests available to celebrate the sacrament with us. Mark it on your calendar. Did you know? Before receiving Communion, the celebrant and assembly acknowledge that we are unworthy to receive so great a gift. The celebrant receives Communion first and then the people come forward. Those who receive Communion should be prepared to receive so great a gift. They should fast (except for medicines) for one hour before receiving the Eucharist and should not be conscious of having committed serious sin. MAINTENANCE FUND: Next weekend is the time for the monthly Yellow Envelope offering for Church Improvements and School Modernization. This offering is important for major maintenance and replacements, and for keeping our facilities in good working condition. Please place your envelope in the offertory basket next weekend. For those who do not receive church envelopes, there are envelopes in the back of the church for church/school improvements (yellow). Feel free to use them on the 1 st Sunday for this offering. Thank you in advance. This year as we pray the Stations of the Cross, various groups within the parish will lead. Each will prepare their own prayer experience for you who attend. Please come and walk the way of the cross. Allow the Spirit of God to fill your heart as He wishes. Please come and pray with us on Fridays at 11:15am (main church, English), 7pm (chapel, English) or 7pm (main church, Spanish). This is a beautiful tradition leading us to Easter. We will not have Confessions or Eucharistic Adoration on March 2nd. Our guest speaker was Denise Medved, founder of Ageless Grace. Endless Grace is a chair exercise program that benefits you physically and was a whole lot of fun. Our next meeting is Thursday March 15 after the 12:10pm Mass in the St. Francis Room come and join us. More information contact: Margaret Cavagnaro at WEDNESDAY NIGHT PARISH POT LUCK: Come and join the Lenten observation at this week's Parish Pot Luck Supper in the St. Francis Room at 5:30pm on Wednesday, February 28th. Immaculate Conception s Teams 4 and 5 contributed 4,474 of those meals. Our two teams need a few more hands to help with cooking and serving. We also need a couple of men to carry large pots and trays. Some help with grocery shopping and transporting would also be most appreciated. Our only job is feeding kids wouldn t you like to be part of that? The smiles are worth it! Please consider giving an hour or two to one of these activities. For the intention of Requested by Donation Lenten Regulations Ash Wednesday, February 14th marks the beginning of Lent. The following fasting and abstinence regulations are observed: Abstinence from meat is observed on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all the Fridays of Lent by all Catholics 14 years of age and older. Fasting is observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age but not yet 59 years of age. Those bound by this rule may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted as necessary to maintain strength according to one's needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted. The special Paschal fast and abstinence are observed on Good Friday and, where possible, on Holy Saturday. On these days, Christians prepare themselves by these disciplines in anticipation of the renewal of their baptismal commitment on Easter. ATTENTION FIRST COMMUNION PARENTS: All children enrolled in their second year of sacramental preparation must attend the First Communion Retreat scheduled for Saturday, March 3rd from 9 to 1: 30pm in the St. Francis Room. First Reconciliation will be scheduled for those in need. A snack and Lunch will be offered. Cost of the retreat is eight dollars payable that morning during drop-off. A TOUCHING RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD AND CHURCH: In this month s Gospels, we are told how time after time, Jesus healed people, not by just saying a word, but by physically touching them! Jesus cured the blind man, the leper, the deaf and dumb man by actually touching them! In today s technological world, many have lost the power of the human touch. We can get behind a computer monitor, or open the screen on our iphone, ipad, or tablet and send messages, pay a bill, order a shirt, play a game, and never have a face-to-face conversation with anyone. Do you have a TOUCHING relationship with God and his Church or just a.com relationship? For several months, over 100 ministry leaders in our parish have come together to look at the strengths and weaknesses of our parish. From over 400 questionnaires and hours of discussion, the Be My Witness participants have identified areas we need to work on welcoming, communication, audio visual screens in church, fellowship and social opportunities, new member orientation, and enhancing our bi-lingual liturgies. The Be My Witness Team challenges you to reach out and touch these issues. Pick up an explanation of the projects we ll be working on from the Parish Office, read them prayerfully, and then see what project touches you. If you are in 9th-12th grades, come and join us on Sunday evenings from 5:30-7:30pm in the St. Francis Room. Life Teen Mass is at 4:30pm each Sunday and then we meet following the Mass. All are welcome to Mass + Life Teen & EDGE Please continue to pray for one or more of our high school teens and middle school youth active in youth ministry. So many things bombard our young church. They are in desperate need of your intercessory prayers to bolster them in their faith, in their identity as sons & daughters of God, and in knowing their worth. Life Teen Youth Ministry (high school) Dignified - (part 2 of 2) We ve spent the last several weeks on the dignity of the human person and many of the dangers that threaten or rob people of their dignity. This week we continue to examine our humanity and how we rob ourselves and one another (our peers) of their God-given dignity by our actions, words, even thoughts. What do we see when we look in the mirror God s creation? Or something less than? Meals for Life Teen - If you are interested in helping with meals, please contact Gabby Ursin who is our meal scheduler for this year. You can reach her at Small Group Leaders - Please consider whether God could be calling you to help in youth ministry as a small group leader for high school or middle school youth. CAMP & RETREATS - MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH to EDGE Camp this summer, June 11-16, HIGH SCHOOL to Life Teen Camp August Both of these summer camps will be held at Camp Hidden Lake in Dahlonega, GA. We have very limited number of spaces for each group. Please sign up with $100 deposit ASAP. Full cost is $525 for the week but we are asking families to pay $275 and we have fundraisers to help cover the rest. See Emily for more details. Mission Trip to HAITI This Summer we have a beautiful opportunity to go and serve on mission in Haiti at the Life Teen Mission Base. The trip is July 3-10, 2018 and the cost is close to $1200 ($650 plus airfare). This trip is open to high school teens, college students, young adults. You must be 17 years old at the time of the trip. These are guidelines set by Life Teen, Inc. The group size is set to 20, which includes chaperones. If you are interested, please contact Emily right away. Deposits of $100 are now due. And Registration forms are available from Emily. (We will do some fundraising to help cover costs) For more information about Life Teen Mission Base, please check out EDGE Middle School Ministry Youth Ministry for grades 6, 7 & 8 EDGE is diving into the Existence of God this semester. This week is Bad News, a night on suffering and evil why do they exist? Why does a good and loving God allow suffering and evil in this world? It is a question that continues to puzzle many even today. We ll talk about this and more at EDGE this week. EDGE meets in the gym of Immaculata School, 7-8:30pm on Wednesdays. All those in 6th, 7th and 8th grades are welcome to join us. As a ministry, Life Teen exists to help reach teens & evangelize a generation that is in desperate need of Jesus. Sacramento de los Enfermos llamar al Padre Roberto a cualquier hora. 2º Domingo de la Cuaresma Las presiones de la vida, frecuentemente nos fuerzan a detenernos y escuchar - unos a otros, a nosotros mismos y a Dios. Pero, solamente, tomando tiempo para escuchar se puede crecer en relaciones, tener calidad de vida, entendimiento propio y el discipulado. Esto es lo que pasó a Pedro, Santiago y Juan el día de la Transfiguración del Señor. Fueron llamados a escuchar, ver, y oír lo que pasaba a su alrededor. Ellos fueron testigos oculares de una escena teofánica, que da respuesta a la pregunta de Quién es Jesús? Vieron una especie de preludio pascual. Ahora, imagina la escena, está presente en ese momento, cierra los ojos y contempla, escucha, siente y vive lo mismo que los apóstoles. Qué ves, que escuchas, que sientes al contemplar tan grande belleza? Los ingenuos discípulos, querían hacer tres tiendas y quedarse allí para siempre. Si como lo escuchas, para siempre. Quieren un deseo imposible, permanecer en la gloria e evitar el sufrimiento. De repente la voz de Dios los vuelve a la realidad. "Este es mi Hijo, el amado, escúchenlo". (Marcos 9:7). Al momento, se va la ilusión. El Mesías tenía que padecer una muerte de Cruz. Ellos entendieron todo después de la resurrección. Marcos, ahora, nos ayuda a comprender una anticipación de la gloria de Jesús que se avecinaba. Pidamos a Dios esta semana por la gracia de saber escuchar donde Él está. Abraham supo escuchar a Dios y obedecerlo, Pedro, Santiago y Juan hicieron lo suyo. Ahora, es nuestro tiempo de escuchar y aprender. Dónde crees que puedes escuchar la voz de Dios en esta semana? En aquel tiempo, Jesús tomó aparte a Pedro, a Santiago y a Juan, subió con ellos a un monte alto y se transfiguró en su presencia. REGLAMENTOS DE LA CUAREZMA La Cuaresma es el periodo del tiempo litúrgico destinado por la iglesia para la preparación de la fiesta de Pascua. Comienza oficialmente el MIÉRCOLES DE CENIZA y son cuarenta días de preparación para la Pascua (sin contar los domingos), que terminan el Sábado Santo. 10 EL BAUTISMO Los bautizos son el primer domingo del mes, después de la Misa de la 1:30 PM. La clase de preparación, que es un requisito para los padres y padrinos, tendrá lugar el sábado a las 10 AM, en el Salón San Francisco. Por favor lleven una copia del acta de nacimiento (No se aceptan tarjetas, tiene que ser una acta con ambos nombres de los papás). Requisitos para ser padrinos: Ser bautizado y tener la intención de asumir las responsabilidades, tener uso de razón, haber cumplido 18 años, estar confirmado, haber hecho su Primera Comunión y llevar una vida de fe. Los padrinos han de ser solteros o casados por la Iglesia Católica. No pueden vivir en unión libre, ya que deben de ser modelos de vida cristiana para los ahijados. Para preguntas favor de llamar a Feliciano de la oficina al Los niños deben de tener la edad de 0 a 6 años. Si son mayores deberán atender la clase de la Primera Comunión y un mes antes de terminar la Primera Comunión serán Bautizados. COMO PEDIR UNA MISA Para pedir una Misa por la intención de un ser querido, difunto o vivo, llame a las oficinas de la iglesia al en horas laborales (lunes a jueves, 8:30AM-4:30 PM, y viernes 8:30AM-1:00 PM). Se necesita pedir la Misa con al menos cuatro meses de anticipo. Se acostumbra dar una ofrenda. ALCOHÓLICOS ANÓNIMOS Es una comunidad de hombres y mujeres que comparten su mutua experiencia, fortaleza y esperanza para resolver su problema común y ayudar a otros a recuperarse del alcoholismo. El paquete de registración lo pueden encontrar en el cuarto de las novia (a un lado de baño de las mujeres), y también puede ser encontrado en la oficina de la iglesia. TARJETAS DE COMPRA: Por favor recuerden comprar sus tarjetas de compra de las tiendas de Ingles y Fresh Market, después de la Misa para beneficiar a nuestra escuela de la Inmaculada. Al comprar un tarjeta de comparas, ustedes recibirán el valor total de que pagaron en sus tarjetas y el 5% de sus compras de tarjetas beneficiaran directamente a nuestra escuela de la Inmaculada. Para obtener su tarjeta de compras, lo único que tienen que hacer es pasar a la mesa de ventas a la salida de la iglesia. Gracias por su participación en este programa! 10 LA PRESENTACIÓN DE LOS NIÑOS Cada segundo domingo del mes se invita a los niños y niñas que cumplen los tres años ese mes para recibir una bendición especial, junto con sus padres y padrinos. Al igual que José y María cuando llevaron al Niño Jesús al templo para consagrarlo al Señor, también reconocemos que los hijos son de Dios, y a Su servicio y cuidado se los encomendamos. Para poder participar, deberá darle al Padre Roberto un papelito con el nombre del niño o la niña claramente escrito antes de empezar la Misa. El Padre Roberto los invitará a subir al santuario después de la celebración de la Eucaristía.
