Principal's Highlights Ullom Elementary School, working collaboratively as a PLC, analyzed data, created interventions and refined best practices to meet the needs of all students resulting in a "5 Star Gold" status. Reading intervention was provided to every student who did not meet benchmark goals in literacy. Struggling readers made significant gains through participation in small group intervention, Accelerated Reader and before- and after-school tutoring. School-wide incentive programs recognized academic excellence, positive attendance and responsible student behavior. Students in grades 1-5 participated in small flexible "Walk to Read" groups receiving intervention or enrichment as determined by student needs. Family Nights in literacy and math included parent seminars, enhanced parent-teacher communication, and provided students with take-home materials. Classroom teachers enhanced student engagement through the use of modern technology using SmartBoards and ipads. The Reading is Fundamental (RIF) program provided students with many books for their personal libraries. Goal 1 Goals and Objectives The percentage of proficient students in third, fourth, and fifth grades will increase in reading as measured by the 2012 Nevada CRT. Objective(s): During the school year, students in third, fourth and fifth grades will achieve the English language arts (ELA) target of 75.9% or attain Safe Harbor (reduce non-proficient students by 10%) on the NV CRT. Goal 2 The percentage of proficient students in third, fourth, and fifth grades in math will increase as measured by the 2011 Nevada CRT. Objective(s): During the school year, students in third, fourth and fifth grades will achieve the math target of 77.2% or attain Safe Harbor (reduce non-proficient students by 10%) on the NV CRT. 4 Accountability Report Parent/Community Involvement Parent/Teacher Conference Participation % 93.0 % 94.0 % 'N/A' indicates the data are not available. Parents, students and teachers met at our "Meet Your Teacher" open house in August. Teachers sent informal progress reports home on a regular basis informing parents about academic goals and student behavior. During parent conferences in December, as well as during monthly parent meetings, parents and students were given an opportunity to provide written comments about the school as well as express concerns, suggestions and needs. Parents were invited to monthly curriculum-related events such as Family Literacy/ Math/ Specialist Nights, offered in English and Spanish, to learn about the programs offered at Ullom and ways they can help at home. We had holiday concerts and our annual Multi-Cultural Celebration to honor the many different cultures in our community. A school newsletter entitled, "The Dragon's Voice", was sent home six times during the year in English and Spanish. This newsletter contained information about upcoming events, parenting tips, safety issues and highlighted class and student achievements. ParentLink was utilized to remind families of important events. Student achievements were celebrated each trimester in assemblies, concerts and the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program.
