The following rules have been established for the health, safety, and protection of all Scouts and leaders attending. a. No firearms are to be at the campout. b. Alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, and fireworks are NEVER permitted. Possession or use of them on Federal property is cause for the person to leave camp. Use of illegal drugs will be reported to local authorities. c. In accordance with a long-standing rule of no flames in tents, self-contained stoves and lanterns may be used, but NEVER in tents. d. Adult leaders should support the attitude that young adults are better off without tobacco and do not allow the use of tobacco products. We discourage smoking or chewing in the presence of Scouts, therefore a no smoking policy is in effect during the Camporee. YOU ARE THEIR EXAMPLE. (If you MUST smoke, please do so in your vehicle and completely out of site of any Scout, and please properly dispose of cigarette butts.) e. The use of liquid fuels for starting any type of fire is prohibited, including damp wood, charcoal, and ceremonial fires. Non-liquid charcoal starters should be used for grilling and Dutch oven cooking. 7. Fires: Troops are currently authorized to use Fire Stage 3. Should the fire risk danger increase we will notify units of any change in Fire Stage As always Be Prepared for more restrictive Fire status. Stage 1 No open flames or fires of any sort inclusive of cigarettes or matches are authorized. Stage 2 - Only Propane Stoves, Propane Lanterns, and Propane Fire Rings authorized. 6 9. Skits/Songs Skits and Songs can have a wide range of subjects, but they ALWAYS must be appropriate. A good test is to hold them up against the Scouts Law s friendly, courteous and kind. Any skit or stunt that does not meet that test has no place in our Ute Campfire Program. Skits and stunts should never embarrass or demean anyone or any group of people. There are several gray areas that are best to avoid: a. Underwear b. Inside Jokes c. Toilet Paper d. Water e. Cross gender impersonations f. Use of alcohol, drugs or tobacco. g. Physical violence Inappropriate skits/songs will be stopped by the Master of Ceremonies or adult leaders. 10. Please bring enough water with you for the weekend. There will be limited water available a short drive away. Have the Scouts drink lots of water! 11. Please make provisions to properly store your food at night. (We will allow ONE trailer or vehicle per troop to remain at the campsite for food storage.) 12. Wear sunscreen! 13. Port-a-lets will be on site. Please keep them clean and useable for others. 14. Troop Participation in the Big Luau Dinner is critical to the success of the Cook-o-Ree. Roasted pork will be provided as the meat dish for the dinner. Each troop is asked to provide starch (potato, rice or noodle) and salad or vegetable side dishes each with enough servings to feed their troop Spring Camporee 6

7 We must be vigilant to possible food allergies. Troops are asked to insure that they bring enough food for themselves and any food which is shared with other troops must be clearly labeled with all ingredients. The First Class trail is structured as a fun and challenging set of activities. Units will be assigned a schedule which rotates hourly. We will need a list of boys attending the stations during check-in so that we can make even assignments for the rotation. The stations are staffed by volunteer scouts and adults; the help of the older boys from your units in working with your tenderfoot and 2 nd class scouts will be appreciated! First Aid one station for the 2 nd class requirements and a second station for 1 st class. o 2 nd class requirements: 7a, 7c. If the scout brings a first aid kit, then we ll sign off on 7b. o 1 st class requirements: 8b, 8c, 8d. An orienteering course is setup with each position having a specific piece of food useful as an ingredient in a dish. Patrols will be assigned 1 of 3 different courses for navigating the course and collecting a list of identified ingredients. Successfully following the correct course will provide the ingredients for a satisfying dish. Errors in the course will result in ingredients which might make something more, uh, interesting. o 2 nd class requirements: 1a, 1b o 1 st class requirements: 1, 2 Food Preparation, Storage, and the Food Pyramid o 2 nd class requirements: 3g (partial) o 1 st class requirements: 4d o Cooking Merit Badge requirements: 1, 2 Kitchen Gadget This will not be a separate station. Bring a minimum of 2 cups of water to boil and boil an egg for 2 minutes. Bring your own wood and BE FAIR AND REASONABLE, no fatwood or accelerated fuels. Camp staff reserves the right to deny any unfair wood. Bring (or build a gadget) for holding the water over the fire to boil. We will only provide a place to build your fire and will have a limited supply of wood on hand. This is a competition for time! o 2 nd class requirements: 3e, 3f 2013 Spring Camporee 7
