As an added bonus, we had the pleasure of having Barry and Hazel Berger joining us for the evening, which always adds to the atmosphere. The staff at Penang Noodle House provided us with a plentiful supply of food so much in fact that for possibly the first time ever, our very own Sam Cuplovic was heard to say, No more for me. I ve had enough!. My apologies for the lack of photos of the evening. Your worthy bulletin editor was so busy talking that she completely forgot to take any photos. Can highly recommend the restaurant for value for money. Many thanks to Club Service Director Steve Castelli for organising the evening. We can now look forward to the next restaurant meeting in November. By now flexibility must be Steve Castelli s middle name, what with all the adjustments and modifications he has had to make with organising upcoming events such as the food and wine tour and Christmas function. However, full credit to him for being prepared to listen to the feedback of members and partners and adjust plans accordingly. The months ahead look likely to be very busy, but a lot of fun for members and partners. Good to hear that PP Max Bird has returned safely to Australia after his latest trip to Timor. No doubt there will soon be a presentation of his latest efforts with the team. 3 Club Service: Stephen Castelli Thanks to all those members and partners present at this week s restaurant meeting at Penang Noodle House. The staff have done a great job of looking after us! Wine tour scheduled for Saturday 21 October: we have two vacancies remaining for anyone wishing to attend. $10 per head for bus hire; other costs according to your own purchases! As per recent , have changed the luncheon venue from Millbrook Winery to the Jarrahdale Tavern. See detailed itinerary next page. On Monday 6 November we will be having another restaurant meeting. After Monday night s little discussion, regarding is it a good idea having the Rotary Christmas function on 24/12 when people are preparing for their own family Christmases and also preparing for the Rotary Lolly Run around town on the following day, I got onto the COK booking officer, and she advised that there had been a cancellation for Sunday the 10 th of Dec. So, to cut a long story short, I have changed the booking for the Patio at the Adventure Playground from Sun 24/12 to Sun 10/12. Still the same time 09:00 to 12:00. This means that we will have the Wellard Markets on the Sat night, followed by the Xmas party with invited guests the following morning. The cost will be $20 per head. 5 PDG John Iriks Michael Metcalf Community Club Projects Director PDG John Iriks Project Director s Report Community Wellard Markets on Sunday 10 September were successful, with 25 stalls present. From October until March, the markets will be held on the second Saturday evening of the month, from 4pm 8pm. Currently working through paperwork for next year s Show and Shine. The City of Kwinana has approached us, asking us to direct traffic and parking at the opening of the Skate Park on Friday 15 September. The event will run from 9-1pm; 3-4 helpers required. PP Genevieve Carr Vocational Vocational Vocational Visit: proposal that as many members and partners attend the Punjabi Sports and Multicultural Festival at Calista Oval on Sunday 24 September. As a mark of club support for this local group, would encourage folks to wear their club shirts. International No report Youth No report for this week PP Max Bird International Conference Report (Wendy Cooper) The District conference will be held on March 2018 at Margaret River. The hotel where the conference is being held is already booked out for accommodation. Would encourage members planning to attend conference to organize alternative accommodation as quickly as possible. 6 Fine Session Acting Sergeant Steve did his best to discreetly extract some monies from members and guests. Some notable fines included: West Coast Eagles supporters: Need we say any more??? Sam Cuplovic: Got himself well and truly lost on his way to the restaurant! All members not wearing clothing that promotes Rotary Mountains, floods, deserts and long distances can make hard to reach every child with polio vaccine. 8 Guest Speaker Rotary in Action As severe storms, an earthquake, and hurricanes wreak havoc across the globe, The Rotary Foundation and Rotary clubs in affected areas have been helping bring emergency aid to battered communities. The ShelterBox team has been very busy, sending shelter kits to affected regions. ShelterBox Update (15/09/2017) UPDATE: Four highly-trained ShelterBox Response Teams have been deployed to help families who have lost everything after Hurricane Irma. Our team in Panama has moved to Barbados to work on the complex logistics of getting aid to the most vulnerable. 300 ShelterKits are now in Antigua with the remaining 200 en route to St Kitts and Nevis, where a second team will soon start distributing aid. A third team is going to the Dominican Republic where we're hoping to provide another 500 ShelterKits, and a fourth team is going to the British Virgin Islands today.
