We welcomed Lyn Leeder as our guest speaker, Lyn is very passionate about the Peduli Bali project that she is deeply involved in. Lyn turns plain everyday shopping bags into works of art and sell them at the Wellard Village Markets for $10 each with the entire proceeds going to the Peduli Bali Projects. We wish PDG Bob Cooper and Wendy a safe and rewarding trip to Denmark etc. where they will meet up with former exchange students Justine Piette, who is about to be married, plus Nina Kobbernagel, Laure Callaert and Thomas Østergaard and their respective families, should be a fantastic experience. Rodger welcomed everyone to our meeting with a special welcome to guest speaker Lyn Leeder who will speak to us on the Peduli Bali Projects that she has been very passionately involved with over a number of years. Presentation to RC Palm Beach on September 18 th Foodbank WA is again conducting their Spring Clean Your Pantry project. The concept is simple, look around your kitchen for those packaged food items that you and your family no longer want or need and bring them along to your next Rotary meeting. Last year the project raised around 1200 cans etc. this year we are aiming for 1500 cans to assist West Australians who are struggling to make ends meet. OCSOBER Loose the booze to help Ausie kids You can help Healthy Harold and Life Education educate kids about their health and the effects of drugs and alcohol simply by losing the booze during October. Project Director Ian Critchley will be away from 7 th October till November 12 th PP Rodger Hamilton will take over the role while Ian is away, many thanks Rodger. 5 Guest Speaker: Lyn Leeder Peduli Bali Project Lyn introduced by Errol. Has lived in this area for 50+ years has 4 children and 5 grandchildren. Involved in the Peduli Projects for about 3 years. Lyn supports the project by selling ordinary shopping bags she has decorated with remnants of material sewn on the outside making them very attractive and a lot more durable. Lyn sells the bags for $10 each at local markets and donates 100% of the returns to the Peduli Projects. $10 buys socks and shoes for a 1 child, we also collect clothes for the women and children. We fundraise by holding Fashion Parades, Morning teas etc. we raised over $17k last year. Peduli Bali (Caring for Bali) Inc is a registered charity based in Perth, Western Australia, this charity was started in Our main aim is to supply food aid to the very poor in remote villages, we travel twice a year to these villages. While in the village we supply school aid to the children at the schools, we give them each a pack of exercise books, pens and coloured pencils. We have been helping a young boy for 8 years who has an ongoing medical condition and we pay for all medical expenses and we now pay for his schooling. We have 40 children, in years 8 to 12, in our sponsorship program now. It costs $200 per year for each child and new sponsors are always welcome. Our very first sponsored child started University in 2012 and is doing very well. The school in Seraya Karangasem Bali has now been upgraded. We supply new baby clothes etc to the Yayasan Bumi Sehat in Ubud. We visit the Nursing Home for the elderly and supply them with donations of money & food. Each trip to Bali we take a different orphanage to a Party Treat at McDonalds. Organize medical treatment for sick people when required we have helped a number of village people over the years to get the medical help they need. We also provide financial assistance to the Senang Hati school for the disabled and visit the school regularly. Stephen C: Heard to comment, don t mind the new places tonight, sitting up the front, only downer is I am facing Bloggsie. Max B: Not one, not two, but three phone calls. John Iriks fined John B and Norm: Up at 5.30am to secure Final tickets, came downstairs and a possum has run amok and wrecked the house, broken dishes, plates and ornaments etc. and is sitting on a shelf in the kitchen looking terrified. Question is how do we evict the darn thing. Chris comes down and surveys the situation, we need to get a possum cage from the council and goes off to get one. Meanwhile John is hanging on the phone continually ringing the phone number. Finally managed to secure the said tickets and go to work by 9am. Apparently Chris got the cage but the possum is still holed up in the kitchen???? A Sydney fan meets a friend and sees that his friend's car is total write-off and covered with leaves, grass, branches, dirt and blood. He asks his friend "What's happened to your car?" "Well," the friend responds, "I ran over Hayden Ballantyne "OK," says the man, "that explains the blood. But what about the leaves, the grass, the branches and the dirt?" "Well, he tried to escape through the park." Q. If you see a Collingwood fan on a bicycle, why should you never swerve to hit him? A. It could be your bicycle. Q. 8 A man with tickets to the AFL Grand Final finds his seat and relaxes. As he sits down, a man comes down and asks if anyone is sitting in the seat next to him. "No", he says. "The seat is empty." "That's incredible", said the stranger. "Who in their right mind would have a seat like this for the AFL Grand Final and not use it?" "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away. This is the first Grand Final we haven't been to together since we got married in 1967." The stranger replies, "Oh...I'm sorry to hear that. That's terrible. Couldn't you find someone else - a friend or relative, or even a neighbour to take the seat?" The man shakes his head. "No. They're all at the funeral." Two kids were having a kick in the car park outside the MCG just before a big Carlton and Essendon match. As they were playing a dog came running across and attacked one of the little kids. The dog was on top of the kids scratching and biting him so his mate who he was having a kick with picked up a stick and started to bash the dog with it. In the end he belted the dog so hard he actually killed it. A news reporter witnessed this event and came rushing over for an interview. She said to the boy "That was great you just saved your best mates life, this could make a great story." So the lady started to think of a headline... "Carlton supporter saves best mate from savage dog attack". "No," said the boy "I am not a Carlton supporter." "Essendon supporter saves best mate from savage dog attack". "No," said the boy "I am not an Essendon supporter either." So the news reporter asked who he barracked for and he said "Collingwood."
