The Conference will celebrate 30 years of Association activities. The Conference theme is Celebrating Australia s Diversity. The North Terrace precinct which is the backdrop for many of the conference activities is an outstanding blend of history, education and culture. 4 4 ACTIVITIES TUESDAY 9 AND WEDNESDAY 10 FEBRUARY 2010 PRE-CONFERENCE TOUR: BAROSSA VALLEY HIGHLIGHTS The Barossa Valley is a place where the finer things in life are present in abundance, but it s also a place with a natural romance, where historic buildings are nestled amongst the region s leafy hills and valleys. The tour will include visits to wineries such as Jacobs Creek, Grant Burge and Wolf Blass, and some of the historic Lutheran churches. Dinner will be shared with members of the Barossa Regional Group. The tour includes: 2 day coach tour 1 night s accommodation at the Novotel Barossa Valley Resort Lunch on both days 3 course dinner on Tuesday 9 Feb at the Novotel Barossa Valley Resort Entry to wineries and attractions Minimum Number: 30 Maximum Number 50 If numbers are not reached the tours and costs will have to be revised. Cost: $ per person (Twin Share) $ per adult single Important Note: Final payment due Friday 11 th December Cancellation Policy: days 20% days 45% Less than 15 days 100% FRIDAY 12 FEBRUARY 2010 T1: Fleurieu Winery Tour: Langhorne Creek & Currency Creek Visit historic Strathalbyn the home of the penny farthing races, award winning Lake Breeze Winery at Langhorne Creek and the award winning Currency Creek winery with its rustic restaurant. Stop at Mt. Compass on the way home for strawberries or blueberries. Lunch is included. Minimum Number: 36 Maximum Number: 55 If numbers are not reached the tours and costs will have to be revised Cost: $65.00pp T2: Southern Fleurieu Tour: McLaren Vale, Goolwa and Victor Harbor Visit the Fleurieu tourist centre at McLaren Vale for a summary of the region, then on to historic Goolwa. Take a ride on a 100 year old paddle steamer or ride on Australia s first railway or see a working boutique brewery in action. Lunch is at the beautiful town of Victor Harbor. Visit local produce outlets on the way home. Lunch is included. Minimum Number: 36 Maximum Number: 55 If numbers are not reached the tours and costs will have to be revised Cost: $95.00pp T3: A Morning on North Terrace The tour will include a visit to the Molecular and Biomedical School of the University of Adelaide where host Professor Robert Richards will describe the three research programs undertaken. Morning Tea at the Art Gallery of South Australia will be followed by a conducted tour of a section of the Gallery. Maximum Number: 30 Cost: Your own morning tea. THURSDAY 11 FEBRUARY 2010 WELCOME RECEPTION The conference welcome reception will be held in the Memorial Hall at St Peter s College. Delegates will be treated to a performance on the Wurlitzer Organ. Dress: Lounge suit and late afternoon dress. Neck decorations and miniatures should be worn. Cost: $40.00pp HOME DINING 1900 Enjoy an evening of great food and company hosted by an Adelaide member. T4: Australian Submarine Corporation Tour South Australia is branded the Defence State. The Australian Submarine Corporation is rapidly building a state of the art shipyard to support the air warfare destroyer shipbuilding task, while they are continuing to maintain the fleet of Collins Class Submarines in the submarine maintenance facility adjacent to their shipyard. A stop for morning tea will be made on the way back to the city. Morning tea to be purchased at own cost. Minimum Number: 10 Maximum Number: 24 Costs: $55.00pp Please note due to the nature of the tour visitors must be able to walk up to 1km and stand for periods of time without requiring seating. Security clearance by way of driver s licence or passport will be required on the day. Dress: Informal, comfortable footwear. PREMIERS/ CIVIC RECEPTION The Honourable Michael Atkinson MP, Attorney-General and the Right Honourable Lord Mayor of Adelaide Michael Harbison will co-host a reception for the conference delegates at the historic Adelaide Town Hall. From North Terrace hotels, take the free tram to the Town Hall. Dress: Lounge suit and late afternoon dress. Neck decorations and miniatures should be worn.
5 5 SATURDAY 13 FEBRUARY 2010 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING All members of the Association are invited to attend the Annual General Meeting. Morning tea will be provided afterwards. MEMBERS OPEN FORUM Members will have an opportunity to ask questions, propose activities and suggest directions for the future of the Association. Membership rates, governance and opportunities for membership participation may be topics. LUNCH Before the Symposium, join us for lunch at the University of Adelaide Staff Club. Beverages are at an additional charge and may be purchased on an individual basis. Cost: $45.00pp CONFERENCE SYMPOSIUM A panel of speakers will address topics on the theme Sustainability of Australia s Diversity. Themes to be examined include environment, energy, population and government. Dress for day activities: Informal; lapel pin to be worn. CONFERENCE DINNER, ADELAIDE CONVENTION CENTRE Join your Adelaide hosts for a wonderful night as we Celebrate Australia s Diversity as well as meet the Foundation Scholarship awardees. Special guests invited for the evening are Her Excellency the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Chairman of The Order of Australia Association Foundation, Mr Hugh Morgan AC. Cost: $130.00pp The cost includes a 3 course meal and beverages for the entire evening. Dress: Black tie, Mess Dress for uniformed service members. Neck Decorations and miniatures should be worn. SUNDAY 14 FEBRUARY 2010 MONDAY 15 & TUESDAY 16 FEBRUARY 2010 POST-CONFERENCE TOUR - KANGAROO ISLAND HIGHLIGHTS Beautiful Kangaroo Island is a microcosm of different landscapes and environments - stunning beaches, forests, desert dunes and farmland. It s the place to go and to see amazing native wildlife in the wild. Experience Seal Bay and Flinders Chase National Park, home to the Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch. The tour includes: Return charter coach transfers (Adelaide/Cape Jervis) Return ferry transfer with Sealink 1 night s accommodation at the Kangaroo Island Seafront Hotel in Penneshaw Coach tour Lunch and entree into attractions Dinner with the Kangaroo Island Regional Group. Cost: $ per adult (twin share) $ per adult single Important Note: Final payment due Friday 11 th December 2009 Cancellation policy: days 20% days 45% Less than 15 days 100% ART EXHIBTION: PAINTINGS BY ORDER OF AUSTRALIA RECIPIENTS Please refer to the program for opening times In the Grevillea room of the Hyatt Regency Adelaide, a collection of paintings by recipients of Order of Australia honours, paintings on loan from members of the Order of Australia Association, will be displayed in a gallery specially set up for the conference. The gallery will be created by Mr David Dridan OAM and will be supervised by South Australian Branch members. Admission is free. WREATH LAYING, NATIONAL WAR MEMORIAL, NORTH TERRACE The Governor General and President of the Association will lay wreaths at the State War Memorial on North Terrace to commemorate Australia s fallen soldiers. Members will also be invited to lay commemorative tokens, after the departure of the Vice Regal Party. MULTIFAITH OBSERVANCE, UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE, BONYTHON HALL The observance will be conducted by South Australia s religious leaders. CLOSING LUNCH After the Observance, dine with fellow delegates for an interactive dining experience at the National Wine Centre. Cost includes all food and beverages. Cost: $70.00 pp Dress for Sunday: Lounge suit or jacket and tie; day dress. Neck decorations and full medals should be worn.
6 6 ACCOMMODATION Reservations have been made at properties within walking distance of Conference venues. Accommodation bookings for the following rates can only be booked through SAPMEA Meetings Management. To secure your booking you are required to provide credit card details. Full prepayment will be given to the hotel of your choice. Accommodation cannot be guaranteed after Friday 8 th January Rates quoted are per night per room for up to 2 people. Whilst the hotels will do everything possible to accommodate early arrivals, if you wish to be guaranteed immediate access to you room, you will need to pay an extra day s tariff for the night before. Conference Activities and Friday 12th Feb Tours Payments for conference activities cannot be refunded after Friday 8 th January Conference Tours Pre and Post tour cancellation policies are stated underneath the tour descriptions in the above pages. CONFERENCE SHUTTLE BUS A shuttle bus service has been organised for the Welcome Reception, from North Terrace hotels to St Peter s College and return and for the Closing Luncheon from Bonython Hall to the National Wine Centre and return to North Terrace hotels. Further details and times will be available in the conference handbook given to delegates when they register. Cost for the shuttle bus service is $45.00pp. MESSAGES A message board will be located near the registration desk. Please advise potential callers to contact Hyatt Regency by telephone on (08) and ask for The Order of Australia Association Conference Registration Desk. PERSONAL MAIL AND DELIVERIES Personal mail and deliveries should be sent to your accommodation address. PARKING Parking is available at all of the accommodation venues listed. Please enquire directly if you would like to reserve a space. North Terrace Precinct There are a number of parking stations in close proximity to the venues. Hourly rates vary. For activities at the Hyatt Regency Adelaide suitable parking can be found at the Adelaide Convention Centre car park and Blyth St. Activities at University of Adelaide - Frome St has a number of parking stations available, for Mulitfaith Observance the underground car park adjacent to Bonython Hall may be used. National Wine Centre A passenger set down area is available on Hackney Road. Short term parking is available along Hackney Road and Plane Tree Drive, and car parks are located on Frome Road, Rundle Street and North Terrace. Please note on-site parking facilities are limited. REGISTRATION DESK After you have checked into the Hyatt Regency or your alternative accommodation, please make your way to the registration desk located on the Ballroom level of the Hyatt Regency. Name tag will be entry for all activities. INSURANCE The conference organisers recommend that all delegates purchase travel insurance, including cover for non-refundable registration fees. ADELAIDE AIRPORT The Adelaide Airport is situated 7kms from the central business district and major hotels. Skylink minibuses run between the airport and major city hotels every half hour from 7.00am to 10.00pm (hourly on weekends) at a cost of approximately $7.00 each way. Taxis from the airport to the Adelaide Convention Centre will cost approximately $ Public transport is also available. TRANSPORT Taxi Adelaide Independent Taxis Access cabs AAT caters for passengers with disabilities - particularly those with mobility aids, such as wheelchairs and scooters. The vehicles are fitted with hydraulic lifts, enabling passengers in wheelchairs and scooters to be loaded directly into the taxi where they are secured and transported to their destination.
