The 18 th and Eye Street Parking Garage Signs are being installed and will be completed this weekend. During Construction, the 18 th Street entrance will be closed from 7: a.m. to 5: p.m. on Saturday and the Eye Street entrance will be closed from 7: a.m. to 5: p.m. on Sunday. Patrons will still be able to use the parking garage as one entrance/exit will be open at all times. The 16 th Annual Great American Cleanup will be held this Saturday, April 22 nd. City staff will be committing resources to assist volunteers with litter removal in nearly 8 locations. Most cleanup activities will take place between 8: a.m. and 1: a.m. Volunteers can meet afterwards at Yokuts Park with Mayor Karen Goh and other elected officials to enjoy festivities, food and games. We would like to give a special thanks to the Keep Bakersfield Committee and City staff members Sal Moretti, Luda Fishman, Jessica Felix, and Jesus Carrera for making the event possible. Council Referrals: Councilmember Rivera o Update on 2 th Street Improvements and Hageman Flyover The City anticipates bidding the sound walls on the north side of 2 th Street midsummer of this year with the actual road construction bid taking place late in the calendar year. The Hageman Road design is scheduled for completion by midsummer and is not currently funded for construction. Staff plans on pursuing grants for that purpose. 2 PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 2, 217 Contact: Jessica Felix Community Relations Specialist Phone (661) The 16 th Annual Great American Cleanup is in Bakersfield this Saturday, April 22, 217 for Earth Day. This Keep Bakersfield Beautiful (KBB) main event is part of the year round Keep America Beautiful (KAB) Great American Cleanup. Locally, more than 2, volunteers will clean up litter and illegal dumps, spruce up community gardens, and other community service projects in approximately 8 locations in Bakersfield. Most volunteers will do their community service project from 8: 1: AM. Afterward at Yokuts Park, volunteers get together with Mayor Karen Goh, other elected officials, and sponsors to celebrate this great day of coming together as a community to keep Bakersfield beautiful. Festivities include a free barbecue picnic, games, ceremony, and the Greater Bakersfield Green Expo (GBGE). The ceremony recognizes 6 KBB Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award recipients and others that are part of the crew with Keep Bakersfield Beautiful. The 217 recipients are former Mayor Harvey L. Hall, Hal Bopp, Sherri Aud, South High School National Honor Society, Starbucks, and World Mission Society Church of God. The event ends at 1: p.m. The GBGE is a green vendor showcase and scholarship program for students in Kern County high schools. Students compete for scholarships by entering the sustainable art contest. Here are 5 of approximately 8 community service projects you may cover this Saturday morning.
