1 To Whom It May Concern, Attached you will find an application for mural approval on West Portal Avenue in San Francisco. West Portal Avenue is a small business district. We are just a short three blocks of merchants surrounded by homes and family friendly neighborhoods. We carry a small town presence but we grow more vibrant each day. 100 years ago the West Portal Tunnel opened connecting our little street to the rest of San Francisco. To this day the muni trains run past our businesses bringing with them people from all over; Exposing new comers to everything we have to offer and reminding old timers that we are here to stay. We are asking for approval to place a mural on the enclosing wall of the parking lot located between 186 West Portal and 170 West Portal. This mural is so much more than a painting on a wall. It is a symbol of all that West Portal represents; family, friends, community, a place to gather and to create and share memories. We, the West Portal Merchants Association, are asking for approval to create a piece of art that will stay with our neighborhood for years to come. It will serve as a reminder that we will always carry with us a sense of togetherness open to all who embrace it. We look forward to the opportunity to add some color and extra beauty to our wonderful community. Thank you for your consideration. 7 SFAC Mural Proposal 1. Proposal ( Describes proposed design, site, and theme) The proposed mural would be located at the entrance on the West Portal parking lot located between 186 west Portal Ave and 170 West Portal Ave. The exact site of the mural would be the brick wall/s that enclose the lot at its entrance. The theme of the mural is simple and clean in honor of our small family friendly neighborhood. It will read the words west portal ave 2. Materials to be used for wall preparation, mural creation and anti-graffiti treatment 3. List individuals and groups involved in the mural design, preparation and implementation The Mural will be designed by artist Siron Norris with input from the West Portal Merchants Association. The brick wall will be prepped by Mr. Norris. He will start the design and facilitate a group of community members in painting and adding color. He will also finish the final details of the mural. 4. Maintenance plan (including parties responsible for maintenance and graffiti abatement) The Mural will have an anti-graffiti coating which will create and non-stick surface to repel paint, spray paint, and permanent markers. Any graffiti that may appear will be removed my members of our merchant community. Surrounding community members will be trained on how to properly remove markings and proper removal materials made available so that immediate removal can be achieved.

8 1 August 2017 To Whom It May Concern: This letter shall serve to note SFMTA s support, in principle, for the application of Michelle Eichelberger to install a mural on the public-facing side of the brick wall enclosing the SFMTAowned and operated surface parking lot at 174 West Portal Ave. SFMTA has no substantive objection to this project, provided the project receives the approval of the SF Arts Commission, but would want to reserve its own final approval of the project pending receipt of the Arts Commission s approval and final sketches and details of the proposed mural.
