3 ONE YEAR IN THE LIFE OF THE CAPE As Cape Coral grows, new features and entities are added, but what would it be like to have almost none of the usual community services? The Cape endured for five years when suddenly things started happening. The dates are as reported in the Breeze Groundbreaking ceremonies were held for the new grade school, to be ready for the opening of school in September. The new school will eliminate students having to get up at 5:00 AM to be off on a school bus to Ft. Myers The new Cape Coral Bank opens The new Cape Coral bridge opened March 14, making a way to the rest of the county without having to drive way north through North Ft. Myers The German-American Club is formed Ground is broken for the First Baptist Church The Cape Volunteer Fire Department became operational with the arrival of a new fire truck Curb mail delivery begins. Before, residents had to go to the post office for mail The new building of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany opens. HISTORICAL TIDBITS FROM THE PREZ Wow can you believe it is 2016, where did 2015 go??? Hope everyone had a nice holiday and a very Happy New Year. Thank you to those who attended our holiday party at the Cultural Park theatre, the punch and cookies were yummy. Your Board is working hard to have some wonderful events and programs this year, starting with the Bluegrass Jamboree on January 30 th. I look forward to seeing you at some of these events. DID YOU KNOW? Since it was a long way into Fort Myers to the movies or any other type of amusement, groups formed together to make their own fun. Gulf American built a barbecue pit out of concrete blocks where the Yacht Club now stands. On many Saturday evenings quite a group gathered there to fix steaks or hamburgers for their families. 4 Vacancies on Board of Directors The Cape Coral Historical Society is currently accepting applications to serve on its Board of Directors. Board members take an active role in the operation of the Cape Coral Historical Museum, a community museum dedicated to preserving, displaying and sharing the unique character of Cape Coral for future generations. Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest and resume for consideration. Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria: a professional background suited to contribute to board diversity, expertise and connections in the community; and an understanding of and commitment to the time and active involvement expected of board members. The Board of Directors meets at the Cape Coral Historical Museum on the first Wednesday of each month at 3:00pm.
