2 Thankyou 1) Welcome back everyone, it was great to see so many members online at the last meeting after our break. Sometimes it takes a while to get back into action but we have hit the ground running. It was good to see a few visitors at the meeting, thanks for making the effort. 2) Many thanks to Ray Roberts for Chairing the last meeting. Thanks also to Sharon Collins for doing the Dot Points. As with December, isn t it great to score a month with only a few Wednesdays! 3) Many thanks to the RC of Beenleigh for their financial donation to our Club coffers for the work that some of our members have done at the Gasoline Alley BBQs. AGM 1) Congratulations to Meralin Fallon on being elected to the position of President Nominee. She will be the President Elect in the 2018/19 Rotary Year and will be President in the 2019/20 Rotary Year. 2) Congratulations to Mary Hunter on being elected to the position of Secretary for the next Rotary Year. 3) Congratulations to Phil Hughes on being elected to the position of Treasurer for the next Rotary Year. 4) Congratulations to; Jim Barbey Colin Gard Faye Powell Ray Roberts Lorelle St Clair on being elected as Directors of The Rotary Nomads for the 2018/19 Rotary Year. Council on Resolutions I recently ed a Report of Action from the Council on Resolutions of Rotary International meeting held online from 15 October to 15 November 2017 to all Nomads. You can view this (hit the link) if you haven t already seen it. Meetings 1) The new dress shirts (Dennis had one on at the start of the meeting) look good. I wore mine to the RC of Goolwa last week and felt quite smart (which is unusual for me). Thanks to Don for getting these organized. 2) The next Board Meeting will be held on Wednesday evening, 31 st January at 5.45pm EST. 3) We did not meet for 4 meetings over the Christmas break. Has anyone got any feedback for future reference. Was the break too long, was it just right, was it too short (refer Goldilocks and the 3 bears)? If you have any strong feelings about the length of the break, let me know please. Murwillumbah Muster/Changeover 1) Sharon Collins is organising the Tag-along Tour culminating at the Murwillumbah Muster. This Tour will start in Coonabarabran (the Astronomy Capital of Australia) although the Southern Belles may hook up with each other in the days before this. Many thanks for your efforts with this Sharon. 2) You would have all received the Muster document by recently again. Please read it and if you have any feedback, let us know. The next Murwillumbah Muster Meeting will be held on Wednesday evening, 7 th January at 5.45pm EST. Further meetings will be scheduled in the lead up to the muster and will be advertised in due course Redistricting If anyone has any comments or feedback about the Redistricting I sent out recently, let me know please. Meeting Recording The recording for the most recent meeting is available until our next meeting at; Clemmo

3 Jokers Wild It s back to business for our resident Joker with a Nuts and Bolts app to draw the lucky contestant s names. First out of the toolbox was Tony Powell, who was AWOL, but soon shot back for his turn finding a 5 of Hearts. Lee Tait was ready and waiting but was not able to find our Joker, selecting an Ace of Hearts. Next week our jackpots rockets up to $312 good Luck Everyone. Join in the FUN - Here's how to pay by EFT: -Transfer $30 to the club s General Account BSB ; Account Number In the transfer description please put your surname and JOK. For example "STCLAIR JOK" Rotary District 9630 has adopted a Youth Protection Policy that applies to all Rotarians and all volunteers who are involved with any Rotary Youth Program. A copy of the policy can be downloaded from the Districts website In terms of that policy Rotarians and Volunteers, who are involved in any Rotary Youth Program, are required to hold a Suitability Notice (Blue Card in Queensland under the Commission for Children and Young People s Act 2000 (Qld)). As Nomads live in various states please refer to the list of states and the relevant links regarding youth protection. For example - In the ACT the card is called Working with Vulnerable People and is required by law (not just Rotary policy) if working / volunteering with youth, older persons or the elderly, disabled persons of any age. If you already have relevant documentation please forward me details so our clubs register can be updated. Thank you to those who have already done this. However, as many Nomads do not partake in youth related projects and activites a Blue Card or other may not be required. More discussion re this topic will occur as the need arises. Thanks Lorelle St Clair (Youth Protection Officer) Mary Hunter needs to know who intends helping at the 2018 Camp Oven Festival held in October at Millmerran Showground (QLD). At least 10 people are needed to ensure many hands make it light work. Mary now has 11 people going but if you also are thinking of going please let Mary know asap as powered RV sites are limited and its first in gets the power points. Camp Oven helpers so far : Robyn and Annette Bailey Rob and Marion Curtis Grant and Wendy Symons Geoff and Lorelle St Clair Allen and Mary Hunter Lee Tait

8 Hi Geoff, Well, the Tour de Cure Peter Mac ride is over for another year and I have to say all the pre-tour training and fundraising were really worth it!! The boat trip from Victoria was pretty good, I sometimes get a bit of sea sickness but it was pretty flat so I was fine (although it could have been the bottle of red that made me sleep!!) The next 3 days were magical. The first day we cycled around 120km to Boat Harbour Beach which was to be our base for two nights and I have to say that it was a fantastic place. The weather while we were there was wonderful so we were very lucky!! The second day we rode 140km out to Stanley where the "nut" is. A huge hill on the edge of the water. It was a bit windy so the riding was a bit harder but still fun. The final day we rode back to Davenport to greet the ship for the trip back to Victoria. All in all it was a great trip. With your members help we have raised over $463,000 for cancer research at the Peter Mac. This is such a wonderful result that the great news is that Peter Mac are able to fund an additional treatment path that will result in additional treatment options for regional patients, which I feel would be welcome news to your members who are mostly regional. Have a look at this video that I took about what they are going to do with the money. I have attached some photos of the trip. Paul Egan

9 Question : What are the Rotary Avenues of Service? Answer : There are 5 Avenues of Service for Rotarians to channel their commitment to service at home and abroad - these are the foundation of club activity. Club Service focuses on making clubs strong. A thriving club is anchored by strong relationships and an active membership development plan. Vocational Service calls on every Rotarian to work with integrity and contribute their expertise to the problems and needs of society. Learn more in An Introduction to Vocational Service and the Code of Conduct. Community Service encourages every Rotarian to find ways to improve the quality of life for people in their communities and to serve the public interest. Learn more in Communities in Action: A Guide to Effective Projects. International Service exemplifies our global reach in promoting peace and understanding. We support this service avenue by sponsoring or volunteering on international projects, seeking partners abroad, and more. Youth Service recognizes the importance of empowering youth and young professionals through leadership development programs such as Rotaract, Interact, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, and Rotary Youth Exchange.
