5 10 th Annual Wild about Wildlife Staff of the Nature Center joined with staff from WildCare Inc to present an informative program. This was an opportunity to give the public experiences with animals ranging from opossums and crows to snakes and turtles. WildCare presented four animal ambassadors. Friends of McCormick s Creek contributed to the success of this program through their donation to WildCare, the local group that provides professional care to sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife in South Central Indiana. DaVinci the Crow talked with the children and was a big hit. BBQ and Blues On September 11 th, in the McCormick s Creek parking lot 1200 people enjoyed an afternoon of good food, music, classic cars, games for the kids courtesy of the YMCA, and delicious pies. Friends volunteered as servers and hosts for the event, and a wonderful time was had by all.

6 Archaeology Day The White River Valley Archaeological Association presented demonstrations and guidance in making stone tools and the atlatl used in early hunting. Participants were invited to learn to handle the atlatl (spear thrower), to make arrowheads and drill holes with primitive tools. Representatives of the Association also brought an impressive collection of artifacts for everyone to examine up close. YMCA Fall 5K Run/Walk Since the Fall of 2008 the Friends of McCormick s Creek have helped the local YMCA with organizing and staffing this fun, twice-a year event for the whole family. On September 26 th several Friends volunteered to run water stations and help direct participants in the race. One hundred and ten people participated, and 97 completed the track. The weather was crisp and thankfully cooled by a little rain early in the morning. The winner finished in about 25 minutes, an amazing feat. Join us in the spring for the next one!
