1 CHANCELLOR'S REPORT TO COUNCIL 21 October 2016 Sunday 4 September I travelled to Sydney. Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 September I attended the Governance and Regulations Forum accompanied by Michael Kern. (Forum agenda is attached.) Friday 9 September I attended Health, Safety and Environment Committee meeting. Monday 12 September I presented awards and spoke at the Outstanding Alumni Breakfast, held at The Ville, Townsville. Chris and I then travelled to Brisbane. Thursday 15 September Chris and I attended an Alumni Function in Brisbane, held at Customs House. Friday 16 September Michael Kern and I met with Michael McNally, Division Secretary, National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU), in Brisbane. I officiated at the Graduation Ceremony in Brisbane, accompanied by Chris. Monday 19 September I travelled to Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) for a Seasim Tour and participated in the AIMS Council discussion, Future of the Great Barrier Reef and the Case for Reef Restoration. Tuesday 20 September I travelled to Cairns with Chris and Ernie Landy. Ernie and I undertook a campus tour conducted by Hilary Kavanagh, Director of Estates. Later, Chris and I attended a Cairns Alumni event held on campus. Monday 26 September I met with Judy Hunter, President, Barrier Reef Orchestra. I have agreed to their invitation to be Patron. I later attended the Ceremonial and Honorary Degrees Committee meeting. Friday 30 September I attended a Special Finance Committee meeting.
2 Tuesday 4 6 October I travelled to Sydney. I attended the National Conference on Governance (NCUG) accompanied by Cam Charlton, Graham Kirkwood, Ernie Landy, Trent Twomey, Michael Kern and Ian Troupe and Chancellors Council (UCC). (NCUG Program attached). Monday 10 September I attended the Review of Council Size Steering Committee meeting. I later participated in a Zoom call with Robyn McGuiggan, DVC Global Strategy and Engagement and Philip Connell, General Manager, Australia American Leadership Dialogue (AALD). Thursday 13 October I travelled to Cairns. I later attended and spoke at the 25 th Anniversary Student Mentor Program Presentation evening in Cairns. Monday 17 October I attended an Estate Board Meeting. I travelled with Professor Chris Cocklin and Michael Kern to Ingham to meet with Andrew Cripps MP, Member for Hinchinbrook. Tuesday 18 October I met with Dr Russell Joshua, Director, Future Students and International, to discuss progress in advancing outcomes from our Canberra meetings in June. I attended the Tropical Sunset Soiree, an event to network with Queensland Government s Trade and Investment Commissioners from overseas posts in Europe, Middle East, Asia and Americas together with North Queensland business groups. Wednesday 20 October I travelled to Brisbane with Michael Kern. We met with the Hon. Kate Jones MP, Minister for Education and Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games.
