1 2018 HFMA National Congress Volume to Value Is this the Future of Australian Healthcare? Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre Thursday 19 th and Friday 20 th of April 2018
2 What is HFMA National Congress? In its 3 rd year, the HFMA Congress will grow to over 350+ healthcare executives, CFO s, Directors and finance leaders. This gathering is the only one of its kind in health finance, that will discuss the significant challenges facing the sector, it will confirm the overwhelming need for change, and provide leaders with key insights Nationally and Internationally to move to a value-based care. In April 2018, the HFMA Congress is set to be a monumental experience. Taking place in Brisbane, Queensland, the agenda will feature the first National CFO and Executive Forum, and the National Congress consecutively, alongside double the content, and featuring keynote speakers from USA, Scotland, England, and Wales.
3 2018 Congress Theme & Key Ideas Volume to Value Is this the future of Australian Healthcare? From an increase in disease prevalence, to an aging population and the growing costs of technology, the healthcare system is reaching a point where it can no longer be sustained. We need to adopt a new way of thinking and challenge ourselves to consider the value of service being provided, in conjunction with the investment and resources used. Currently, Australian healthcare is volume-based, where success is defined by high profit margins with little emphasis on improving quality and paying for the volume of procedures performed as opposed to outcomes achieved. This will inevitably be unsustainable and has lead an international movement towards value driven care, whereby we find value as outcomes achieved per dollar spent. Ultimately, if value improves, there will be a global benefit to the patients, payers and providers. The HFMA Congress is an opportunity to unite together to discuss the foundations of value-based care, the steps we can take to promote sustainability, and how innovative thinking can change the future of healthcare. Volume to Value Based Healthcare Alternative funding models to support a value-based system Strength of data, analytics and transparency Understanding the true cost of care and disinvestment strategies The Clinicians view of moving to a valuebased system & the significant opportunity iemr and E-Health Moving finance and funding to prevention and promotion Measurement is the key to a revolution in healthcare Technology is fundamental too, and supporting a value-based system
